GCW has promoted this show as their second chance to run here and re-write history, since the reaction to their debut several years was not all around positive. It should be interesting to see what they intend this to be creatively. The show does give them a chance to get fresh eyeballs on the company, since the Hammerstein Ballroom holds some clout and will bring fans to the show.
They were extremely close to sold out this morning.
KICKOFF SHOW
Dave Sturicho and Josh Shernoff are the hosts for the Kickoff show. They ran down lineup. They have no yet opened the doors for the venue yet.
They showed clips of Mance Warner's ascension to GCW Champion. It was a lot of insane bumps.
They then went to a look at Allie Katch.
They talked about the GCW Tag Team Championship bout.
They teased Sam Roberts would be Matt Cardona's mystery opponent. That would be something.
Mr. Danger vs. Marcus Mathers vs. Fuego Del Sol vs. Rich Swann vs. Blake Christian v. 1 Called Manders
Very fast paced match with a lot of moves and near falls. Manders scored the win.
Kickoff Rumble.
WWE ID talent Zayda Steel drilled Crowbar low. A lot of the entrants were in the ring when it started and did not get introductions. The Backseat Boyz with Violent J were next, listed as Juggalo Championship Wrestling. They hit the T-Gimmick, which warms my heart. Sam Stackhouse was next. Shane Mercer. Brooke Havoc followed. There's way too much going on to follow. CPA was next. The last competitor is former ROH Champion PCO. It was came down to Mercer and PCO. They battled with chops outside on the apron. PCO chokeslammed him RUDELY off the apron to the floor.
PCO was interviewed and was welcomed back to GCW after three years by Emil Jay. PCO said for the last three years, he's been working for a company called TNA. He said he's going to do something he's wanted to do for a long time. He asked for someone to bring him the tools. He shined up one of the TNA title belts (I believe the Digital Media) and destroyed it with a sledgehammer. He said he sold out the biggest house in TNA and sold more t-shirts than anyone else, but they cut the cameras off of him.
After the video package, GCW owner Brett Lauderdale came out and said they are not only the first independent company to run here, but they are the first to do it twice. It was a special day in 2022 and it was a roller coaster to get back here. He said their ticket sales were better than anyone else who ran here the last 30 days. Obviously a shot at AEW. He shouted out friends of the company who have passed on. He talked about his mother being there for the first show and passing away and how he knows she's watching the show. He said they did this with no corporate TV contract and no billon dollar safety net. He said theyh believe in themselves because they are GCW. They accomplished today as a team. He promised today was going to be a 100% authentic GCW show. I wonder how much the New York State Athletic Commission will allow that.
THE PEOPLE VS. GCW
They aired a video where Matt Cardona was a Judge and all the GCW stars plead to being Gulty as Charged. They then showed shots of the GCW stars walking around Manhattan, followed by all thw GCW star in prison garb, being taken off a corrections bus.
There are empty seats in top balcony but we are in the middle of a big snow storm here.
Veda Scott and Dave Prazak are the announcers.
Rina Yamashita vs. Matt Tremont vs. Matthew Justice vs. Drew Parker vs. John Wayne Murdoch vs. Brandon Kirk vs. Ciclope vs. GCW Extreme Champion Maki Itoh vs. Dr. Redacted to determine the new GCW Ultraviolent Champion - DLC Match.
Everyone battled. John Wayne Murdoch complained Itoh didn't deserve to be here. Everyone attacked him. Itoh did the Terry Funk ladder airplane spin. Justice smashed the ladder with a chair. He went up a ladder but Tremont nailed him with a chair across the back. Tremont flung chairs at Justice's head. Redacted and Parker came off the ropes with chairs and nailed both, Ciclope nailed Rina with a spinebuster. The crowd chanted for him. He nailed an Asai Moonsault to the floor on everyone in the aisle.
Brandon Kirk, who has stated he is retiring after tonight, placed a door across the buckles but was smashed through it. Murdoch drove Itoh into the corner with a ladder. Kirk went to nail her but she turned it into a DDT. Itoh nailed a flying bodypress off the ladder onto everyone down on the floor. Lots of trash cans and plunder brought in. Rina and Redacted did stereo trash can headbutts on Tremont and even smacked into each other as they landed. Ladders being used as weapons aplenty.
Ciclope and Rina battled atop a ladder. He kissed her and then went for a suoperplex. They crashed over the top through a table to the floor. Jesus. Parker hit a swanton off a ladder through a table oin Itoh and Murdoch. A ladder was bridged. Justice picked up Redacted and hit a DVDR over the ropes through a table outside. Brandon Kirk climbed towards the belt but Drew Parker grabbed his ankle. Kirk hit a Psycho Driver on the bridged latter on Parker, smashing him through to the Mat below. Huge GCW chant. Kick bridged another ladder and climbed for the title but Murdoch grabbed him and smashed him through the bridged ladder.
Tremont and Murdoch battled atop the ladder. Tremont forked him in the forehead, sending him to the mat. Tremont captured the belts.
Matt Tremont is the Unified GCW Extreme and Ultraviolent Champion.
This was all crazy risk-taking bumps. Utter chaos. I respect their insanity.
