Pre-show notes: Sid Vicious is not here. I believe Jay Lethal will be replacing him against Matt Hardy, which is a far better match....Balls Mahoney is also here, but was not advertised....They held a pre-show match where The Big O of Zack Ryder's online show won a multi-man bout....Marty Jannetty and Ox Baker were among those signing during the two hour pre-show signing session.
Pat Buck came out and thanked everyone for coming but said that he wanted to be honest with everyone because it's his first show. He announced that Sid Vicious called him at 10 AM to tell him his wallet was stolen at a deli so he missed his 6 AM flight and wouldn't be there. He said that Sid had a bad business track record, so he called Sid's cell phone and let the Arena boo him. He then gave out Sid's number over the mic. Somewhere, Dennis Coraluzzo is cracking up. Buck said that they have booked three extra names to make up for Sid no showing and thanked everyone again for coming.
Pete Rosenberg from Hot 97, who's had some great interviews, is doing commentary.
Balls Mahoney vs. Marty Jannetty - Falls Count Anywhere match
Mahoney has lost a LOT of weight. He got a big reaction coming out. Jannetty got a nice reaction coming out to the old Rockers theme song. They hugged when Jannetty got into the ring.
Mahoney said that he's known Marty forever and that they can put on a wrestling clinic to blow everyone else away, but that's not what people want to see. He asked the crowd if they wanted to see a Falls Count Anywhere match. Jannetty asked the crowd if that's what they wanted and said if Balls really wants it, then cracked Balls with a right hand.
Jannetty worked over Balls, who came back with a series of right hands, finally laying out Jannetty. They went right to the floor, where Balls nailed Jannetty with a drink from the first row. Jannetty nailed Balls and whipped him into the guard rail, then DDT'd Balls on the floor.
Jannetty grabbed Balls' chair when they returned to the ring and Balls dared him to hit him in the head with it. Jannetty drilled him over the head with it and Balls staggered, stunned. Jannetty drilled him with a superkick for a two count. Balls then rolled up Jannetty from behind and hooked the tights, scoring the pin.
Your winner, Balls Mahoney!
Mahoney began puking outside the ring after the match. He started to say something on the mic but I couldn't make it out. I don't know what happened but obviously Mahoney got sick. He was apologizing to the crowd as he left.
This was over before it really kicked off and man, what a strange combination for a bout. These were two of the underadvertised stars.
Brett Gayika vs. CJ Esparza
These guys are from the Illinois area and usually team as Zero Gravity.
They went back and forth with some hot moves early. Esparza went for a dive but was nailed with a forearm and slammed on the apron. Gayika hit a crazy tope out of the ring, then followed it up with a leaping clothesline for a two count.
Esparza went for a shooting star press but missed it. He recovered and went for a springboard and was nailed in mid-air. He landed on the top rope and was hit with the Flux Capacitor by Gayika for the pin.
Your winner, Brett Gayika!
Real crazy balls to wall highspots match. I had never seen either of these guys before but they worked like they were trying to make their names. The crowd really got behind them too.
They shook hands and hugged after the match.
Eddie Kingston vs. Kevin Matthews
Matthews is a former developmental talent. They did some back and forth talking on the mic then brawled out of the ring. They brawled over to the table I am set up (this seems to be happening more and more these days!) and the battled up into the bleachers before heading back towards the ring.
Kingstyon cut off Matthews on the top rope and nailed a superplex. Kingston ducked a clothesline and nailed a kick to the gut, followed by a Northern Lights suplex for a two count. The crowd began chanting for Kingston. He went for the spinning backhand but Matthews blocked it and drilled him with Last Rites for a two count.
Kingston fired back but Devon Moore and another wrestler in a Michael Myers mask hit the ring. DQ city.
Your winner, Eddie Kingston!
The three of them worked over Kingston and laid him out. A heavyset fan in the front row was so upset he ripped off his shirt and started dancing to mock them. I love indy wrestling.
Fun brawl!
