Will Ospreay vs Konosuke Takeshita
The crowd boos Don Callis as he joins commentary, and Ospreay gets a massive cheer for his entrance.
They start fast, with Ospreay getting a flurry of offense before they go to chops. Takeshita coming off the ropes into Ospreay was incredibly fast. As they work, it’s clever they want to steal the show with a lot of movies being worked with strength and a snap at the end of each one. These two work together well, and whenever Ospreay gets a big move, the crowd explodes. The guy is a star to the AEW crowd.
When they transition to big moves, everything just looks amazing. Callus keeps saying it shows how great hsi team is, but it's clear the crowd does not want to boo Ospreay and are clearly ready to boo Takeshita. Ospreay starts winning the feats of strength, and the story they are starting to tell is that Takeshita could be getting hurt by this fight.
Ospreay tries for an Oz Cutter, but Takeshita turns it into a blue thunder driver. From here, they move to finishing moves and near falls. Takeshita gets a sheer drop brain buster from the top rope for two that looked super dangerous. They hit a series of incredible looking moves and near falls. It’s back and forth with neither man able to get the final pin. Ospreay hits a Tiger Driver 91 and then the hidden blade for the pin and the win.
Winner: Will Ospreay
Callis hits the ring and checks on Takeshita. Kyle Fletcher makes his way to the ring. Ospreay and Takeshita bow to each other. We are then told Ospreay and Fletcher will face each other as they embrace.
That was an awesome match. Great way for Ospreay to make his mark upon entering AEW, and while he can’t do that every week, pulling that out for a PPV is when and how you do it.
Samoa Joe (AEW World Champion) vs. "Hangman" Adam Page vs Swerve Strickland W/ Prince Nana
Jim Ross joins commentary and Taz steps aside. And JR tells us that Swerve is a different breed of cat.
Swerve is cheered, Page is booed, and Joe is cheered. AEW Fans like tough guys.
As expected, Page and Swerve start to go at each other, and Joe goes after them both. When Joe is knocked to the floor, Swerve makes sure to work over Page, and then hits Joe when Joe starts to stir. Crowd is chanting Swerve’s House any time there is a pause in the action. After Page gets a near fall, Joe takes over, working over Page and knocking Swerve to the outside.
Swerve and Page work together to double powerbomb Joe and they then go face to face. Joe lays on the apron as they tear into each other. Page throws blows at Swerve, and Swerve laughs at him. Swerve then counters the deadeye for two, with Joe breaking it up. Swerve is busted open hardway under his. Page is able to get another cover and Joe breaks it up again.
Swerve then gets a near fall with Joe breaking it up. Joe then takes over and tosses Page and Swerve around. Swerve hits Joe with the stomp and a house call, but then he waits to attack Page with the house call for two. Joe and Swerve fight as Page is on the floor. When Swerve gets the stomp on Joe, the referee is pulled out of the ring by Page, who then nails Swerve with the belt.
Page mocks Swerve on the apron and then hits a buckshot on Joe. Page hits a second buckshot and there’s no referee to count until a ref comes from the back and counts two. Page goes for a third buckshot and Joe is able to get the coquina clutch, and Swerve leaps onto them to break up the hold. Nana gives Swerve the crown and Swerve tosses it back. Joe goes for the choke and Swerve turns it into a rollup and Page attacks the referee, beating him down in the middle of the ring.
Joe is able to take down Page and then tries for the muscle buster, but Swerve blocks it. Page hits Joe with a buckshot and then Swerve hits one his own. Joe tosses Swerve away and Joe locks the Coquina clutch on Page, who taps out.
Winner and still AEW World Champion: Samoa Joe
AEW then announced the Dynasty PPV in St. Louis on 4/21/2024.
Sting and Darby Allin (AEW Tag Team Champions) W/Ric Flair) vs The Young Bucks (Matthew Jackson and Nicholas Jackson)
Ricky Steamboat is the timekeeper.
The Bucks come to the ring in robes and have business cards fired from cannons instead of the usual confetti.
We then get a video package of Sting alone in a theater looking at different eras of his career. When his music hits, one of his sons comes out as Surfer Sting and the other as WCW Crow sting. Then, Sting comes to the ring.
Darby throws himself at the Young Bucks. They are rolled into the rings, and Sting’s sons hit splashes on them, and then Sting and Darby do the same. Sting locks them both in the scorpion deathlock, and after they escape, he tosses them around outside the ring. Sting’s sons set up tables and Sting tosses each of the Bucks into the crowd. More tables are set up and Darby sets up a ladder.
Sting sets up panes of glass onto chairs. After Sting swings his bat at the Bucks, they take off into the crowd and they go into the back and then up on the stage. Nick suplexes Darby off the stage and through tables. Matt does the same to Sting on the other side of the stage. The crowd chants F%$# The Young Bucks as they bring Darby to the ring where they start working him over.
Darby is tossed onto the ladder set up in the corner.
DON’T DO WHAT DARBY ALLIN DO!
Darby takes out the Bucks and then sets up the ladder, a tall one, and then he slams Nick’s head into the steel steps before laying him on the glass across the chairs. Darby goes up, up, and up, goes for a swanton, and Matt pulls Nick out of the way. Darby’s back in covered in blood. Sting is back in the ring with the Bucks in control.
They brawl in the ring and Sting puts Matt on the table and goes up the ladder. Matt joins him on the ladder, they fight their way down and Sting is put through the table, but he’s up right away. Sting is tossed into a plate of glass in the corner. We then get out first near fall as Matt covers Sting.
The Bucks take the belt from Steamboat and when Matt gets into the ring, Flair has gotten into the ring and is covering Sting to protect him, and the Bucks give him a superkick. Steamboat gets a superkick as well. Sting is hit with the belt and is covered, kicking out at two. Sting then takes a superkick from both Bucks and doesn’t go down.
Before giving the superkick the Bucks do a callback to Shawn Michaels by saying “We hate you!”
Sting takes an EVP trigger for two. They hit Sting with another EVP trigger and cover him for one and Sting starts laughing, telling them to bring it on. He takes superkicks. They set up for the TK driver, and Nick is tossed out of the ring through a table. Sting gets a scorpion death drop on Matt for two. Darby hits a coffin drop and Sting grabs a scorpion death lock and Matt finally taps out.
Winners and still AEW Tag Team Champions: Sting and Darby Allin
Sting and Darby celebrate in the ring.
Sting takes the mic and thanks the crowd. He thanks Darby and wonders how many stitches Darby will need after this. They are desperately out of time as Sting has completed an amazing career.
