Tonight is AEW Revolution is from the Greensboro Coliseum Complex in Greensboro, NC.
The hype pre-show is being handled by Renee Paquette and RJ City, and they use a lot fo the footage from Friday’s night’s hype special.
The comment team for the Zero Hour pre-show is Excalibur and Nigel McGuinness.
The Bang Bang Scissor Gang (Max Caster, Anthony Bowens, Billy Gunn, Austin Gunn, Colten Gunn, and Jay White) vs Jeff Jarrett, Satnam Singh, Jay Lethal, Willie Mack, and Private Party (Isiah Kassidy and Marq Quen) W/Sonjay Dutt and Karen Jarrett
Max messes up his rap on the way to the ring again, and I liked that Jay White made sure he was nowhere near him so he can’t be blamed for it.
If you’re going to have one of the mass matches, the opener is the time to do it, since matches like this are mostly just a way for a bunch of guys to get on the show and show off the big, crowd pleasing moves.
Private Party causes some problems as they accidentally knock Jarrett’s team off the apron. They build up to Billy Gunn getting the hot tag, but he’s cut off quickly by Willie Mack, Jay Lethal and Private Party. Gunn takes three finishers from them and kicks out at two. This leads to a big brawl with everyone at ringside and Satnam gets to manhandling everyone in the Bang Bang Scissor Gang. White and Gunn finally take him out. White hits a Blade Runner on Willie Mack for the pin and the win.
Winners: The Bang Bang Scissor Gang
Jay White then hypes up the crowd for the show before talking about how his group is the best faction in wrestling.
In the back, Doc Samson says Orange Cassidy, he’ll need to be taped up before he can be cleared. Cassidy says he is sick of his friends getting hurt so he wants them to stay in the back. In other words, he’s clearing the way for the Undisputed Kingdom to go nuts.
We go back to hype from Renee and RJ. We then get a video from Pac that he is coming back soon. Filmed in a spooky way.
We then get Tony Schiavone and David Crockett to talk about Sting. A nice touch and it’s more hype.
Julia Hart and Skye Blue vs Kris Statlander and Willow Nightingale
Stokely Hathaway joins commentary.
Hart gets the biggest cheer when she tags in. The match itself is a pretty standard affair, with Willow playing the babyface in peril. Hathaway and the other commentators have fun mocking each other and Hathaway getting in the funniest lines he’s ever had. As I watch the match, I realize this feud has been going for a long time, and they are paying it off in a pre-show match.
Statlander’s strength always impresses when she gets the hot tag. They go for a bit after that, and Willow hits the pounce and the Doctor Bomb for the pin and the win.
Winners: Willow Nightingale and Kris Statlander
Hathaway doesn’t interfere, Hart and Blue don’t cheat, so it seems like this was just a placeholder match and they will move forward with this story in future shows.
Renee and RJ go through the card again as we finish up Zero Hour and move to the PPV proper.
As the PPV starts, the commentary team is Excalibur, Tony Schiavone, and Nigel McGuinness.
Christian Cage (TNT Champion) w/ Killswitch, Nick Wayne, and Mother Wayne vs Daniel Garcia
Garcia comes out with a jacket covered in scorpions. We are told that Matt Menard is injured and cannot be in Garcia’s cover.
The opening of the match shows that Cage is stronger than Garcia and Garcia will have to out wrestle Cage rather than overpower him. Cage does stalling at the start of the match and goes to the outside whenever he takes a move from Garcia. Cage gets a poke to the eye and Garcia sells that he can’t see as Cage works him over. As Garcia goes to the floor, Cage comes off the top OVER the ringpost into Garcia.
After this sequence, Garcia is able to take over for a short time and then Cage is able to take control. Cage sells the ankle since Garcia had him in an ankle lock and keeps knocking Garcia out of the ring every time he tries to get back in. Nick charges at Garcia and Garcia gives him a back body drop into the timekeeper’s table. This allows Garcia to power up and throw hands at Cage. The fight moves to the outside and Garcia tosses Cage into the steel steps.
When they return to the ring, Cage tries to beg off to draw Garcia in. Garcia is able to get an ankle lock again and Cage barely escapes as we move into near falls. Killswitch gets a chokeslam on Garcia as Cage distracts the ref which leads to Cage getting a frog splash near fall. Matt Menard shows and attacks Killswitch. Mother Wayne tries to cut him off, but Menard is able to still keep attacking Killswitch.
In the ring, Cage’s leg gives way during a spear attempt, and Garcia gets a pile driver for two and the crowd had counted three. Excellent timing, and the crowd is chanting that was three. Mother Wayne distracts the ref, allowing Nick to attack Garcia, which leads to Cage getting the killswitch for the pin and the win.
Winner: Christian Cage.
Eddie Kingston (Continental Crown Champion) vs. Bryan Danielson
Everyone is barred from ringside, and if Danileson loses, he has to shake Kingston’s hand.
They take time to lock up with Kingston trying to get strikes and Bryan avoids and looks for an opening. Once Kingston gets chops, he is able to break down Bryan. Eddie is also starting to sell the knee from Bryan’s kicks. Bryan lures Eddie to the ringpost and Eddie chops the post, and now his chops aren’t going to be as effective.
Bryan starts working the hand of Eddie. Eddie is finally able to get an exploder but still sells the hand afterward. They move to big moves and attempted pins as they spend a lot of time fighting in the corner. Bryan gets a suplex off the top and goes for a butterfly stretch. Kingston is able to break the hold and roll to the ropes, and both of these men are showing massive bruising.
Bryan lays in the hammer and anvil elbows, but Kingston played possum and hits a series of moves on Bryan ending with a Northern Lights Bomb. The crowd is loving this match, and is incredibly loud no matter who is winning. Danielson stomps Eddie’s face in, and locks in a triangle sleeper. Eddie is able to drag Bryan to the ropes for the break.
Eddie takes the Yes kicks and they trade suplexes. Eddie gets the last suplex in the exchange and both men are on the mat, recovering. They trade strikes and kicks when they get to their feet. Eddie gets a power bomb and holds on for the pin and the win.
Winner and still Continental Crown Champion: Eddie Kingston
They milk all of the drama they can out of this, but in the end, Bryan shakes his hand and then holds Eddie’s hand up in victory.
