World’s End starts with fireworks and noise.
Our commentary team is Excalibur, Taz, and Nigel McGuinness. Matt Menard joins for the first match.
Bryan Danielson & Claudio Castagnoli & Mark Briscoe & Daniel Garcia vs. Jay White & Rush & Jay Lethal & Brody King.
Garcia is cut off from dancing when he comes out by Danielson comes out early.
Claudio and Rush start by throwing hands, and when they tag out, Briscoe and Lethal tag in. Much like the New Japan matches of the people who didn’t win a tournament, it’s a sampler of each man’s style. Next is Danielson and White. They stay in longer than the others, and Danielson eventually takes over and dominates White, but Garcia tags in when Danielson back into his corner. King tags in and the King tosses Garcia around.
King heads over the pie faces Menard. Garcia is kept in the corner for quick tags by White’s team. After Garcia lays into everyone in the opposite corner, he tags in Brisoe who cleans house. The tag team siren goes off and everyone is fighting around and in the ring. This leads to White’s team working over Briscoe and no one is there for Biscoe to tag in.
Once Claudio is on the apron, Briscoe is able to tag in. He and King brawl. Claudio is able to suplex King, which looks impressive. Claudio gets the giant swing on King with Danielson ending it with a drop kick to King’s head. This moves to everyone getting a finisher on the last person to get a finisher. Garcia is able to get a surprise rollup for the pin and the win.
Winners: Bryan Danielson & Claudio Castagnoli & Mark Briscoe & Daniel Garcia
Brody King slaps Menard at ringside and bails.
Miro vs. Andrade El Idoilo w/CJ.
Glad CJ is able to make it after her recent health scare.
Miro attacks Andrade as he gets in the ring and can’t get his jacket off until he tosses Miro to the floor. Andrade goes for the figure four early, but Miro kicks him away. Miro and CJ have words when Miro yells at her “This is what you wanted!” They have a hoss fight, big moves back and forth. The story is that Miro keeps cutting Andrade’s comebacks off.
As they fight outside the ring, Andrade dumps Miro on the announce table. They brawl back into the ring and fight on the top, with Miro getting a suplex and both men are down. They move to throwing hambones and Miro wins the exchange. As they recover, Andrade gets a dragon screw in the ropes and follows with strikes. Andrade powers up for a hip attack, but Miro bails. Andrade nails him instead with a moonsault to the floor.
Andrade hugs CJ and then rolls Miro into the ring. Andrade hits the double leap swanton from the top. Andrade tries for the charge again, and Miro hits the pump kick as he charges in. Miro calls for Game Over and locks it in. Andrade is able to slip free and get to the ropes for a break. Miro yells at CJ to support him and that allows Andrade to get another dragon screw in the ropes. Andrade gets a back elbow for two.
This is an old school Hoss Fight and the crowd is loving it. We need more fo these in AEW, as the more types of matches you have, the bigger the audience you can draw.
Andrade gets a figure four and bridges up for the figure eight, and Miro is able to roll over and reverse the pressure. Andrade turns it over again. CJ sneaks into the ring and knocks Amdrade’s arms down so that Miro can escape. Miro hits the pump kick for two as Adnrade asks CJ what’s going on. MIro gets the Game Over and Andrade has to tap out.
Winner: Miro
Tony Schiavone has joined commentary and Nigel seems to have left. They don’t let us know that, though.
AEW Women's Champion Toni Storm vs. Riho.
Toni and Luther are so entertaining. Just coming to the ring, they do so much great character work. Toni gets the biggest chant of the night so far.
These two have worked together before, and it’s the same story (Storm’s strength vs Riho’s speed), but with Storm in character it feels fresh and new. Riho is told not to dive onto Storm by Luther, so she dives on Luther, who catches her and hands her to Storm for a slam on the floor. The other little thing Storm does that works is that she cries out in surprise when Riho gets a quick attack.
They do the bit where Storm gets on Luther’s shoulders and runs along the ring and Storm holds Riho’s hair and tosses her to the floor. As the match goes on, Storm dominates and Riho is able to escape just barely. I think it’s a bit odd that they are having Riho as the babyface in peril so much when the crowd loves Storm.
Luther pulls the ropes away from Riho when Riho is trying to get the break, and the ref sees it and Luther is Outta Here (the crowd is unhappy with this). Riho gets a comeback and slams Storm for two. Storm rolls to the floor and it’s time for Riho to fly. We then move to near falls, and Riho pulls everything out of her arsenal. Storm hits an over the back DDT for the pin and the win.
Winner and still AEW Women’s Champion: Toni Storm
Mariah May comes to the ring with a bucket. She runs around the ring scattering rose petals.
Lexi Nair is with Dante Martin and asks how he is holding up. He says he was set back by his injury. He says he almost got a pin on a champion, and Orange Cassidy comes out and they will have a championship match on Dynamite.
Swerve Strickland vs. Dustin Rhodes
Big pop for Swerve.
Swerve attacks Dustin as he is getting the ring and then tosses him into barricades, the ring post, and the steel steps. Nana gets out a cinder block and puts Dustin’s ankle on the block. Swerve stomps on the ankle, breaking the cinder block.
The medical staff and referees look over Dustin to see if he can continue. Dustin is helped to the back. Dustin tries to turn around and they help him limp to the ring.
Dustin is rolled into the ring and lays in the corner saying he wasn’t to fight. Swerve paces in the ring. The bell rings and Swerve charges with a big boot and then stomps down Dustin. Swerve starts working over the ankle. Swerve then works over the leg in the corner. Dustin gets a comeback and nails a Canadian Destroyer with a snap power slam for two. Dustin hits the yam bag kick in the corner followed by a pile driver and a DDT for two.
Dustin tries for a figure four and Swerve kicks the knee and Dustin crumples. Swerve works over the leg with move moves, and the next time Dustin tries to power up,he has nothing left in the tank. Swerve snaps Dustin’s arm and then hits the Swerve Stomp for the pin and the win.
Winner: Swerve Strickland
