MAIN EVENT TIME, LA CENA, IYO DEFENDS, WHO WILL BE THE lWo'S PARTNER, TAG TITLES ON THE LINE: FULL WWE FASTLANE BLOG

By Dave Scherer on 2023-10-07 20:02:00

Welcome to my WWE Fastlane blog.  This show really picked up momentum for me during the last segment on Smackdown.  They really turned the heat up.  This should be fun.

They showed Pat McAfee’s hype hype video at the open.

We are opening with The Judgment Day defending their Undisputed Tag Team Titles against Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso.

Michael Cole said that the attendance is 14,529.

Before the match they recapped Cody getting Jey over to Raw and everything that led up to this match.

Jey is out first.  Big pop.  I mean BIG pop.  Indy is fired up.  And they showed it for the first note of Cody’s music.  It’s so cool when babyfaces are received as babyfaces.  That’s the idea folks!

Cole just said that a former leader of The Bullet Club in Finn is taking on another former leader of Bullet Club, Cody.  I don’t think a certain promoter will like that knowledge drop.  Call it a hunch.

The crowd is totally behind the challengers.  They are live.

The faces were in control early for the most part, with frequent tags while they worked over Finn.  But then Priest kicked Jey from the apron and took control.  Jey is working to get the tag, and he does.  It’s really old school so far and the crowd is loving it.

Cody hit a suplex from the second rope after holding Finn up there for a while.  I know it’s probably not their intention (or maybe it is) but they are showing that you don’t have to do 10,000 moves with no time in between to get the fans going.  They are doing just the opposite.  If I was a wrestler, that’s what I would want to do.  The longer you can work, the more money you make.  Plus, you lessen the chance of injury.

Jey is in there with Priest and Jey has taken off his shirt.  I can remember the last time he did that (but I do drink a bit).

Flying Jey took out both champs on the floor with a tope.  Jey hit the splash on Priest but Finn made the save.  Cody came back from selling on the floor and hit a Cutter on Finn but also sold he hurt himself again.

In the ring Jey is waiting for Priest to get up but he ran into a big boot.  Jey countered with a Spear, as a message to you know who.

Rhea came out with Dom, massive boos.  Jey took out Dom but then Rhea smiled at him so he walked away.  Priest hit a kinda-can-rana on Jey, selling the leg, and Finn hit the Stomp, but Cody broke it up.

Now they are throwing hands. Jey almost got a three but when Finn kicked out, Rhea bashed Jey in the head.  Finn could only get a two count.

Priest did a chokeslam on Cody on the apron and tore apart the announce table.  Oh yeah, JD is out there too and he just hit accidentally hit Priest in the bad leg with the briefcase.  Cody wasted Priest on the table.  Double team cutter on Finn.  Crossroads.  1-2-3, new champions.  The crowd is going nuts.  That was a hell of a lot of fun!

The Judgment Day has issues….again.  Finn’s buddy cost them the belts.  And now will Priest cash in later with the bad leg?  It wouldn’t be wise but if he does, it may be Rhea and Dom on their own.

As for the new champs, I didn’t see it coming but it was the right move, both for the great crowd but also two put two top guys back in champ world.  Great start to the show.

They are reminding everyone watching the PLE that NXT this week is LOADED with WWE talent.  You can’t blame them, they have to counter Edge vs. Luchasaurus.

In the back, Wade Barrett and Booker T is wondering who would team with the lWo when Xavier Woods came in.  He wants to watch the show with them and he’s ordering Pizza Hut.  Product placement.  Wade brought “I’ve Got Some Bad News” out of mothballs.  Pop.

The lWo vs. Lashley and The Street Profits is next.  If you pay extra for Peacock, you get the video package.  If you don’t, you get commercials.  I am fine with the latter.

The Street Profits are out first.  No solo cups.  They waited on the stage for Lashley.  He and Rey had a great match last night.  Those guys are nearing 50 and can still go in a big way.  The reaction is pretty muted.  They aren’t being booed or cheered really.  They have been kind of tweeter.  My take was that the goal at first was for the fans to think the Profits turned but they liked Bob so it didn’t happen.

Santos and Zelina out first.  Nice applause.  Then Rey’s music hit.  Big pop.  Who will be their partner?  Well, they went to the ring by themselves.  The bell rang so if they have a partner, he will have to come down during the match.

The Profits are working heel for sure.  The crowd loves Rey.  If a partner doesn’t come out, they may be trying to show the audience how good Escobar is.  Right now, he’s good at taking a beating from Bob.

Rey’s in now.  Crowd is happy.  Well, they were before Rey started getting pounded.

It’s all Team Bob.  Rey is getting thumped.

But he made his own comeback but Ford pulled Santos down before he could tag.  Zelina did a meteora on Ford but Santos is out after being drilled into the barricade so they are working over Rey again.

And the call was answered!  Carlito is here and he is here to take the tag.  He looks great, really great.  The crowd is going nuts as he is en feugo.  Backstabber on Ford, lWo wins.  This is one of those matches where the story made it all work.  The faces got beaten up until Carlito made the save and popped the crowd.

Cole and Graves got a Pizza Hut dinner box delivered by Woods.  They are eating.  Product placement folks.
