Afterward, Sammy tries to get the audience to cheer Jericho, and he shoves Sammy away and does the Sad Walk to the back and the announcer talk about how he is having trouble winning the big matches now.
Nigel is in the ring and announces the house is 81035.
AEW Trios Champions The House of Black (Malakai Black, Brody King, and Buddy Matthews) vs The Acclaimed (Max Caster and Anthony Bowens) and Billy Gunn.
Odd that the champions come out first, but it will allow the Acclaimed to do their rap on the way to the ring. The House rule this time is No Holds Barred.
Everyone brawls and they set up for Billy Gunn to dive onto everyone, but Julia Hart blocks him…so she gets the Scissor me Timbers. They then go back to brawling and we see Mercedes Mone watching the show. House of Black is in charge with Brody and Gunn fighting on the floor and the others in the ring. After Gunn dodges a cross body on the outside, the Acclaimed rally and take over.
This leads to Bowens in the ring by himself and House of Black dominating. The Acclaimed rally again and Gunn gets a trio of Famousers, but Julia pulls the ref out of the ring when Gunn gets the cover.
The Acclaimed hit their finisher of Brody for two, and Gunn hits a Famouser, the Acclaimed hit their finisher again and all three men hold down Brody for the pin and the win.
Winners and New AEW Trios Champions: The Acclaimed and Billy Gunn
The House of Black hold the titles and all six men meet in the middle of the ring. The House fof Black hands over the titles. Bowens says they would bring him back to the top. We then have the loudest scissor party ever.
A well done match to give Billy Gunn a big moment, and a nice pre-main event match.
It’s time for the Main Event
MJF (AEW World Champion) vs Adam Cole
Tons of pyro and fireworks for each man. MJF has a HUGE entrance benign brought out on a throne in the Devil mask.
Both men go under the ring for the Better than You Bay Bay shirts when the bell rings. They then have chain wrestling to start off with after running the ropes. After MJF and Cole both disrespect each other, the tone of the match switches and there isn’t as much of the cooperation as the first sequence. Cole pulls the ref in front of him when MJF charges, and MJF asks “What are you doing?” and Cole pulls him into the turnbuckles.
As the match goes, Cole pulls MJF’s hair so MJF pulls Cole’s. Cole yells at MJF that they may be friends, but he had MJF beat and he is better than him. He pulls MJF’s shirt off and then Cole goes for the eyes of MJF. MJF then fires up and starts working over Cole and moving into his old tactics.
MJF hits a dive and is shocked with himself. They go back to the ring and roll each other up back and forth. The story they are telling in this match is just great in how they move section to section, and MJF is working to keep the crowd invested. Cole hits a sheer drop brainbuster on the steel steps. That looked brutal.
MJF dives back into the ring at 9 amd just lays there as Cole takes his time to go to the top. Cole sets for the Panama Sunrise and MJF rolls out of the ring. MJF has a cut on his shoulder. They clear the announce table and MJF sets up to tombstone Cole on the announce table, but he can’t do it.
Cole, on the other hand, can.
And the crowd lets Cole know he’s an arsehole.
Cole covers MJf after rolling him into the ring for two. They trade strikes until both men are down. They clothesline each other and each man pins the other by how they land. They ref says it’s a double pin and a draw.
Cole grabs a mic and says there is no way and wants 5 more minutes, the same as during their 30 minute draw on Dynamite. MJF says no. And then he says 5 minutes isn’t enough and they are going until there is a winner in f@#$ing Wembley
They trade rollups and the ref is knocked down. MJF sees the ref is down and gives an evil smile. He brings a chair into the ring. He tosses it to Coile and they toss it back and forth. Cole falls down when MJF has the chair, and MJF puts the chair around his neck and falls down. The ref sees MJf and yells at Cole and MJF grabs a schoolboy for two.
Loved that.
The match continues. Cole gets a Panama Sunrise on the floor and Cole tries to carry him to the ring for two. Cole then accidentally hits a Panama Sunrise on the ref. MJF pulls out the ring and looks broken hearted as he waits for Cole to get up. He puts it away. Behind him Roderick Strong, still wearing Bobby Heenan’s neck brace, nails MJF with a low blow.
Cole hits a Panama Sunrise and a Boom Knee on Cole. He covers MJF and the Ref struggles to count and MJF kicks out at two.
Roddy shoves in the belt and yells Do It and Cole takes off the t-shirt. Cole tosses the belt out of the ring and tells Roddy to leave, which he does. MJF is able to get a cradle for the pin and the win.
Winner and still AEW World Champion: MJF
After the match MJF tells Cole that the people still love him. He then says it could have gone either way and he got lucky. He grabs their tag team titles and says that they still have these, but Cole is having none of it.
MJF yells that he never cared about him and it was all about the belt. He then throws the belt at MJF and tells him to get it over with and gives himself up to Cole. Roddy comes back to the ring and yells at Cole to attack. And instead, they hug.
MJF is in tears and Cole holds his hand up and the confetti flies.
The Kingdom are holding back Roddy as fireworks fill the air. Excalibur announces they will be back next year on 8-25-2023 at Wembley.
