JR Leaves commentary and Tony Schianvone tags in.
Eddie Kingston, Penta, Orange Cassidy, Trent Beretta and Chuck Taylor vs Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli, Wheeler Yuta, Santana, Ortiz.
As they do introductions, Eddie charges at Claudio and it’s time for brawling. We’ve got trash cans being used, tables set up at ring side. As the others switch opponents to whoever they are near, Eddie and Claudio battle up to the entryway and ignore everyone else. In the ring, Penta goes after Santana and Ortiz, we get split screen with Eddie and Claudio in the back, so it looks like they will be the ones going through the stadium as everyone else has a weapons brawl in the ring.
Mox brings out skewers, and we’re now in death match territory. Ugh. Penta hammers the skewers into Mox’s head. Penta is power bombed into chairs by Santana. Eddie and Claudio are fighting in the Royal Box way up in the stadium. Cassidy starts the soft kicks on Mox, and Mox pulls out a fork to go after Cassidy.
Trent has a barbed wire board, but Mox still hits a brain buster on Cassidy into a chair, followed by Mox going after Trent with the barbed wire board. In the back, Yuta and Taylor are fighting near a minivan. Yuta then shows in the Royal Box, and Claudio goes after Taylor in the concourse. In the ring, they have introduced a ladder, and we’re cutting between the three fights.
The commentary team has all but given up on keeping track of everything going on. Yuta and Taylor come back to the entrance way as everyone hits that area.
The minivan shows up and the crowd chants for Sue. Taylor and Beretta pull plunder from the van including a baking sheet of cookies. Penta comes out as Penta Obscura is out and puts Santata through a pair of tables by a sunset flip from a ladder.
In the ring, Yuta is the subject of the Best Friends hug and they then beat him down. As everyone brawls around the ring, Claudio puts Cassidy in the big swing for over 20 revolutions. Ortiz and Baretta go through a pair of tables. Cassidy hits three orange punches for two. Cassidy takes duct tape to make a broken glass fist.
Mox is dropped face first into the glass. Eddie charges to the ring with a barbed wire wrapped chair. Claudio takes a beat down with it. Mox stops him and they confront each other. Eddie hits a series of back fists, he puts Mox through the table in the ring, and Cassidy hits the Orange Punch with glass on Claudio for the pin and the win.
Winners: Eddie Kingston, Penta, Orange Cassidy, Trent Beretta and Chuck Taylor
The crowd loved it. I didn’t. The first stadium stampede was a goofy brawl that was fun to watch. This was just a bunch of deathmatch stuff with bits of fan service in the blood. I like the fan service, but the blood and skewers and such were just not needed. Too much unneeded blood and dangerous work that was just shown as if it were a highlight reel. I get that some people like this sort of violence, but these guys were overtly hurting themselves as we didn’t get anything to build to it.
It was just, “Look at this, oh, and this, oh AND THIS!!!
AEW Women's Champion Hikaru Shida vs. Toni Storm vs. Saraya vs. Britt Baker.
Saraya comes out with her family to Queen’s We Will Rock You. I am so happy for ASaraya to have this moment.
The sun is going down during this match, so we get more lights in the arena, giving things a different feel.
“How distressing it must be for a dentist to work in England” - Nigel mocking British teeth.
Hard to follow that bloodbath, so they all go for pins quickly, which brings the crowd into it. Shida is taken out early so that we get Saraya and Storm working together until it’s time to pin, and Storm and Saraya arguing over who gets to pin until Shida breaks it up.
Saraya’s sister holds onto Baker for Storm to attack, but after the first attack, Baker ducks and Storm nails Saraya’s sister, which makes Saraya turn on Storm who was trying to apologize. They fight it out in the ring with Storm taking over and ripping off a turnbuckle pad. Ruby Soho sprints to the ring to be peacemaker, but Storm will have none of it as she nails her.
Baker hits a spin kick on Storm and drops her on top of Saraya for two, and Saraya gets livid. It is now truly all four women against each other. Lots of big moves broken up by someone else. It ends when Saraya gets the nightcap for the pin and the win.
Winner and NEW AEW women’s champion: Saraya
Saraya celebrates in the ring with her family. We see Toni Storm stumbling around the ring lost, and this is a great move for her “clueless star” persona.
I was shocked at how fast they got everything cleaned up from the Stadium Stampede so rapidly. The ring crew earned their money on that one.
Swerve is brought to the ring by the rapper who recorded his theme.
Sting and Darby Allin vs. Swerve Strickland and Christian Cage with Prince Nana and Luchasaurus - Coffin Match
Loved the intro video for Sting and Darby, and their entrance with the crowd lighting their cell phones in the dark was amazing. Nigel says the Fireflies are here tonight. Just an awesome moment for Sting.
After a brief fight with all four men, it turns into Sting and Cage in the ring. They do not get to lock up as Swerve attacks Sting. Darby pulls out thumbtack jackets out of the coffin, which has Swerve graffiti inside, and he and Sting don them. Stick has a cricket bat. Nana gets a sStinger Splash in the ring, so good for him.
Cage doesn’t get involved until Sting and Darby are down, and Cage ties Darby’s hands behind his back with tape. Swerve is beating up Sting at ringside with the bat, and Darby fights with hands behind his back. Darby and String brawl with Swerve around the coffin. Cage goes back to working over Darby in the ring as Darby's hands are now free. Cage works Darby over with a chair. Cage then sets up for the con-Chair-to but Darby is able to recover and attack.
There is a table set up on the coffin, and Sting splashes onto Swerve, but it doesn't break the first time. Nigel says the table is made of British Steel. Sting hits it again and the table breaks and Excalibur gives a shoutout to Botchamania by saying Sting Is The Table.
Sting and Darby set up the coffin and throws Cage into it, but Cage keeps the coffin from being closed as Luchasaurus joins in to save Cage. Luchasaurus beats the stuffing out of Darby, but Darby escapes so that he and String can go after Swerve. Darby goes for a coffin drop onto Swerve on the coffin, but Swerve rolls out of the way.
Sting finally gets to go after Cage in the ring and locks on the scorpion deathlock. Swerve breaks it up with a chair, and Sting does his “slowly I turn” bit. Cage is able to take down Sting with the bat. Swerve hits the double stomp and Cage shoves the coffin into the ring. Sting is put in the coffin. Swerve tosses the bat into the coffin, and Sting uses the bat to keep the lid from closing.
Sting is slammed onto the coffin and he goes to the top. Swerve goes for a 450, and Sting rolls out of the way. Darby takes out Cage with the TNT title. Sting hits the scorpion death drop on Swerve on top of the coffin. Swerve is put int he coffin, but he usus his hands to keep the lid from closing. Darby then hits a coffin drop on the lid and Swerve is put back inside and the lid is closed.
Winners: Sting and Darby Allin
Amazing that String can pull out a match like that at his age. A big crowd pleaser, tons of huge spots, and a lot of fun.
Time for Fozzy to perform, and whether you like Fozzy or not, Chris Jericho knows how to work a crowd.
Taz joins commentary and Tony tags out
Will Ospreay vs Chris Jericho
MONSTER pop for Ospreay. He comes out in full Union Jack gear, and I doubt there is a way this crowd will boo him.
Sammy is with Jericho and Don Callis is with Ospreay.
This is the first traditional wrestling match in a while, and it’s perfect placement. Ospreay’s home town crowd reaction is a good way to come back after having the coffin match with Sting. Jericho works arrogantly so that Ospreay has the crowd behind him. Callis is at ringside but hasn’t done anything as we move through each man working each other over into the near falls.
Callis then distracts the ref, and Sammy nails Ospreay with a bat while in the Wall of Jericho. Ospreay is able to fight out of the walls. Nice way to keep the crown on Ospreay’s side. We move to the big moves and near falls as Ospreay looks like he is just starting the match. The guy’s cardio is amazing. Ospreay hits a hidden blade, a second storm breaker for the pin and the win, clean in the middle of the ring.
Winner: Will Ospreay
I liked this one. Just a straight ahead match, nice storytelling where Jericho and Sammy just weren't able to match Ospreay in his home town.
