Welcome to my Crown Jewel blog. After a great hype video by Titus O’Neil, they opened with pyro and threw it to Michael Cole and Wade Barrett. Say what you want about WWE running in Saudi Arabia (and I have said plenty), it’s a an awesome scene on TV, and it should be give the large amount of money they make from doing these shows.
As Mike reported, we are opening with Bobby Lashley vs. Brock Lesnar. Bobby is out first with a big time star entrance and great reaction. Then, they went into video recap mode.
Back to the stadium, Brock’s music hit. Huge pop as his came out on the stage. This would be a huge win for Lashley if they go that way, which I think that they should.
Brock was preening around the ring when Lashley left the ring and attacked him, which is what he should have done given what Brock did to him. He threw Brock into the steps and Brock came up selling his knee. The bell rang and Bobby speared Brock, who rolled out the ring. Bobby followed and speared him through the barricade. He brought him back in the ring for another spear, and got a two count.
Bobby went for The Hurt Lock but Brock his a suplex “on one leg”. Then he hit another. And a third. He’s still selling the leg. F5. Two count only.
Brock went for another F5 but Lashley clotheslined him to the floor. He put Brock in a Fireman’s carry and drove Brock into the post. The fans booed, they want Brock to win. Bobby went for a Speak but Brock countered. Bobby hit a Spinebuster and the crowd booed. As Brock got up, Bobby got The Hurt Lock. Brock is selling like it’s putting him out but he keeps fighting. It’s hot there, they are both sweating. I looked it up, it’s 80 degrees.
Brock got to the ropes and pushed off with his legs, landing on Lashley for the pin, while Lashley still had The Hurt Lock. It was a fluky finish so Lashley can come out strong and the fans got to see the guy they wanted win. The announcers are selling that Brock was lucky to come out with the win. Lashley is ticked that he lost. He put The Hurt Lock back on Brock. The crowd thinks he sucks. They aren’t following the storyline, they are cheering for who they like. Lashley left and Brock is in the ring selling the beating. Haven’t seen that very often. This isn’t over between them. Good physical opener, with two big dudes doing big dude stuff.
War Games is coming later this months. I can’t wait!
Alexa Bliss and Asuka are defending the Tag Titles against Dakota Kai and Iyo Sky. After recapping the title change and doing promos, the ladies came to the ring, wearing full body suits because of where they are. Bliss got the biggest pop for the four.
We had a cool moment when Asuka and Iyo faced off and Cole gave us a recap of their history in Japan. The champs were in control early until the challengers took out Asuka and sent her to the floor. The fans are chanting Let’s Go Asuka. They like the faces in this one. After taking a beat down Asuka made the hot tag and Alexa went nuts on both women. Bliss hit a Tornado DDT on Kai but Iyo broke it up and then tagged in. Alexa hit a Code Red for a two. Some fans are chanting it’s awesome. It’s really good, they are working hard. They did a car wreck superplex spot where Alexa was on top and took the worst of it. Asuka hit a missile dropkick for a two on Kai and then Asuka went into old school Asuka mode. She got a two and cried because she is still selling the knee. Kai blasted her with a big kick for two and she now thinks she has her but Asuka has other ideas. Kick to the head. Tag to Bliss but she was distracted by Sky and Kai got her knees up on Twisted Bliss. Sky went for a moonsault on the floor on Asuka but missed. Bliss had Kai for Twisted Bliss when Nikki Cross came in and attacked Alexa. Kai covered and we have new champions. I don’t love the quick Title change. On the flip side, it was done to further Cross’ new character so I will give it a partial pass since I love psycho Nikki. Overall great work from the women. For those who were lamenting that Damage Control is done already, they are not.
Political ads. Wonderful. I can’t wait for Wednesday. I am so sick of these damn ads.
We got a Becky Lynch video package. Hmm, War Games is coming. Could we see her join Bianca, Bliss and Asuka while Sasha Banks joins Damage Control?
The Pauls just pulled up. I don’t know much about Jake but it seems like Logan has way more personality. Logan feels great. He thinks he will shock the world.
Drew McIntyre vs. Karrion Kross inside a steel cage is up next.
