ROMAN AND DREW CLOSE WITH A CLASSIC, RIDDLE & SETH GO TO WAR, ET TO, DOMINIK?, JUDGMENT FOR EDGE & REY? SMACKDOWN WOMEN'S TITLE, GUNTHER VS. SHEAMUS PERFECTION, THE WOMEN SHOW HOW FAR WWE HAS COME, MIKE'S ONGOING WWE CLASH AT THE CASTLE BLOG

By Mike Johnson on 2022-09-03 12:40:00

The main event is Roman Reigns vs. Drew McIntyre for the Universal and WWE Championship.

They showed Karrion Kross and Scarlett watching from ringside.

MASSIVE reaction for Drew.  It was hard not to be happy for him in front of 60,000 of his countrymen and women all singing his name.  This show has been really a sight to see and has easily been one of the hottest WWE crowds in a long time, especially in terms of crowd noise.  It's been the show WWE needed and now we'll see if they can cap it off with a strong main event and stick the landing.

Big faceoff and feeling out process.  Roman even backs off, putting himself through the ropes to force a break.  They took their time and ate up some time with Roman stalling but the crowd reactions made it all interesting.  Drew finally clotheslined him over the top and sent Roman into the steel steps on the floor.  Someone threw something at Drew.  It was Karrion Kross.  Dick move.  They had words, allowing Roman to blast him from behind.

Roman worked over Drew and demanded Cardiff acknowledge him on the mic.  Drew did, with the Glasgow Kiss.  They battled back and forth with punches.  Drew nailed a series of clotheslines and an overhead belly to bell suplex.  It was all Drew with the crowd super into it.  They battled to the corner where Drew was tied to the tree of woe but was still able to toss Roman off.  Drew called for the Claymore but Roman rolled to the floor.

They battled back to the ring where Drew continued to score near falls after a spinebuster.  Drew finally set up for the Claymore but was drilled with the Superman Punch.  Great, dramatic near fall.  Roman went for a spear but was kicked.  Roman fired back with a spear of his own for a two count.  Roman goes for a guillotine and sinks it in, trying to choke Drew out.  Drew went down but came to life, driving Roman backwards into the buckles.  Roman was knocked to the floor.

Drew dragged him in and went for the Claymore Kick but was speared for another two count.    The referee was bumped.  Austin Theory went to run in to Cash In MITB but Tyson Fury KO'd him as he hit ringside.  Big Pop for that.  Drew Claymored Roman for another close two count.  They recovered to their knees and fired back and forth with punches.  This is just tremendous stuff.

Drew had Roman beat but during the count, someone pulled out the referee.  It was the debuting Solo Sikoa.  Roman was able to use this to nail Drew with another spear and finally get the pin.

After the bout, Tyson Fury faced off with Roman and finally shook his hand.  Roman walked off with Sikoa.  Fury checked on Drew and helped him up.    He raised Drew's hand.  Drew got a massive reaction.  Fury took the mic and said everyone here came to see him.  He said he knows Drew feels down but he should be proud of himself for a hell of a fight.  He said that everyone was chanting Drew's name and that must have been an awesome feeling.

Fury began singing Don McLean's song American Pie to Drew.  He and Drew sang the chorus with the crowd.

Drew said that the crowd showed the world what they are made up and that they were loud and passionate.  He said that he's sorry he let anyone down.   He promised he would get his hands on the titles.   Drew said he didn't even know if they were still on the air and wanted to party, so he led the crowd in signing Oasis.  He thanked everyone for being there for him.

NXT and AEW have a hell of show they need to follow tomorrow night!
