Gotta be honest, I got back home right as the PPV started so I missed the kickoff show. That means I missed R Truth retaining the 48 Hours 24-7-11 Championship. It’s heartbreaking because it’s one of those rare times I could have seen that happen and I missed it.
We are starting out with Roman Reigns defending his Universal Title against Jey Uso in an I Quit match inside Hell In A Cell. This feud has been the most interesting main roster stuff, but far. If Use loses, he becomes Roman’s errand boy. Jey is out first, followed by the champ.
Before they locked up, Jey told Roman he has changed. On a side note, for everyone out there that hated Roman because he got to wear Shield gear, he isn’t wearing it now.
Roman was in control for the first minute or two but Use came back with some dives and drove Roman into the cage, taking control. Well, until he got a little cocky and ran into a spear.
Roman took time to tell him what he was going to do him, allowing Use to come back a bit. But then he ran into another spear. Again, Roman didn’t go for the kill. He told him just do it, quit. He doesn’t want to have to do this, you are making me the bad guy. Roman said he would end him but Jey hit a kick as Roman went for the Spear. Use hit a splash. Both guys are writhing in pain. Roman won’t quit. Jey went up again and hit another splash. Roman isn’t quitting. They are working slow, which is fine by me. They are selling that the moves are so big that they are doing damage. It beats actually taking damage.
Jey got a strap and started beating down Roman but he hit a spear and put Jey down. He said he couldn’t breathe but he wouldn’t quit. Roman grabbed the strap and started beating Use with it. He does the whipping around here! He ain’t lying. I don’t blame them for going lighter earlier. Ouch.
Now it’s a strap match too as both of them have it around a wrist. Use comes back and they throw haymakers. Use got on top and choked Roman out, but he was playing a bit of possum and popped up. Use put him down again but Use let go. Big mistake. Reigns didn’t quit.
Jey got a chair but before he could use it he got nailed with a Superman punch. Roman jumped into the guillotine. He promised he would take Jey’s last breath, but he wouldn’t quit, so Roman let go. Jey won’t say it. He is forcing Roman to really do something bad to him. He doesn’t want to but Jey is making him do it.
Roman is telling him he is making him do this. Jey won’t say it. So, he is going to learn. Roman dragged Jey to the corner and hung his head over the apron. Drive By to the face. Roman is sad he has to do this. He wants Jey to quit. Jey won’t answer. So Roman is punching him in the face. Now it’s time for the ring steps against the head, Drive By. You might want to say you quit Jey. Maybe Rikishi should come out and do it for him.
Even Paul Heyman is aghast. The ref wants to call it, so Roman tossed him to the floor. Another ref came in from the outside. J, Pearce and Buck Security hit the ring. They said it’s enough. Roman disagreed. Steps are in the ring. They are on Jey. He said all you have to do is acknowledge me but you wouldn’t. There’s no going back when you have gone this far, so I will end you. I hope Mike Johnson gets rights fees for the usage. Before Roman could end Jey with the steps, Jimmy ran in and stopped him. Jey is pretty dead. Jimmy wants to know what is wrong with Roman. Jimmy called Jey by his real name, Josh. Jimmy said we got you man. Roman sat down and cried. He said he didn’t know what he is doing. Jimmy offered his hand and said we got you, we are family. Roman took the hand. Jimmy told him he loved him. Roman then put him in the guillotine. He reached out to Jey and woke him up and Jey said he quit to stop his brother from getting choked out. Heyman came in, scared of what he saw in his charge. Roman put his hand out for the Title and Paul gave it with a “don’t do that to me” look on his face. Roman is serious as a heart attack. Then as he walked up the steps, he smiled. Afa and Sika are on the stage. They look concerned. They always did. They Afa hugged his nephew. Sika presented his son with an elder lei. He is the Tribal Chief now and he’s happy about it.
It’s pretty impossible to grade this to me as it was drama heavy. I liked it, a lot. Roman’s character is pretty complex and now Jey and Jimmy have to do what he says. Or something like that.
The Raw announcers talked about what they just saw. Samoa Joe said he broke Jey’s spirit because he couldn’t break his will. I wonder if Joe is a subject of Roman’s now. Joe hopes this will end the fighting in the Anoai family.
Elias is out with his guitar. Time for him and Jeff Hardy.
Elias is going to sing. Will he get to finish a song for once? Elias made a booze joke. Of course he did. Then a DUI joke. And on cue, out comes Jeff.
