t’s time for AEW Zero Hour from the United Center in Chicago IL. Our commentary team is Excalibur, Nigel McGuinness, and Kevin Kelly.
Perhaps they should have removed the four stars Punk uses on his trunks from the logo for All Out.
Over Budget Battle Royal
Oh man, another battle royal. I feel like I have watched over every show for the last few weeks. I am super glad to see Dalton Castle get an entrance as he is someone who could be used better by AEW. Tony Nese gets in the ring to get some heat, so of course he is thrown out first. They do a nice comedy bit with Serpentico trying to attack the former Jericho Appreciation Society and then taking him out.
As it goes on, we get more comedy bits, which is probably the best way to handle this as a kickoff in front of a crowd that, I would imagine, will have a chip on its shoulder. Mogul Embassy are getting a lot of attention as the match goes on, and Gates of Agony are a team that could do some good work on the main roster.
We get down to Adam Page and Trent Beretta with Brian Cage and Toa Leona, Page gets dumped and Page is all by himself against Cage and Leona. Page eliminates Leonqa and it’s Page vs Cage. Hangman wins with a reverse pile driver.
Winner: Adam Page
A fun opener that brings the crowd into the arena. I like that the focused on comedy and the Mogul Embassy.'
Hikaru Shida, Willow Nightingale, and Skye Blue vs. Mercedes Martinez, Diamante, and Athena w/Billie Starkz
Athena’s team argues about Starkz being at ringside.
They move quickly to Skye Blue being the babyface in peril, and the announcers are already talking about the next match and the story of the match is that Athena’s team is having trouble working together. When Willow gets the hot tag, Martinex and Diamante drop off the apron so that Athena has to face her. EWe then get a nice faceoff with Athena and Shida. This becomes brawling with everyone outside the ring and then Willow setting up for hometown girl Skye Blue to get the pin and the win.
Winners: Hikaru Shida, Willow Nightingale, and Skye Blue
We get a video of La Faccion Immgobernable, which I had forgotten all about. Rush is trying to get his team to become more violent and dangerous.
The Acclaimed (Max Caster and Anthony Bowens) and Billy Gunn (AEW Trios Champions) w/Dennis Rodman vs Jay Lethal, Satnam Singh, and Jeff Jarrett
Sonjay Dutt introduces his team as if it’s a basketball game.
Billy Gunn calls for Aubry Edwards to referee the match to piss off Karen Jarrett
Everyone brawls to start the match, They move into a standard match, with Acclaimed making fun of Jarrett, and then Jarrett doing all of his normal moves. Satnam tags in to do some giant movies, and that leads to Karen and Aubry getting into it, Dennis Rodman gets the guitar shot on Satnam. This leads to the Acclaimed getting their finishing moves for the pin and the win on Jay Lethal.
Winners and still AEW Trios Champions: The Acclaimed and Billy Gunn
Nothing special on the pre-show and all in all it felt like an average episode of Rampage. The crowd favorites won and get to have big moments.
As the Pay Per View starts, the announce team is Excalibur, Nigel McGuinness, and Kevin Kelly
MJF and Adam Cole (Ring of Honor Tag Team Champions) vs The Dark Order (John Silver and Alex Reynolds) w/Evil Uno
Cole and Silver start out with mat work and then running the ropes. The crowd is into this match and MJF is milking it for all its worth. Silver nails MJF from behind and MJF sells that his neck is still injured. As they scuffle on the floor, Reylonds nails MJF with a chair in the back. The doctor checks him out and says that MJF is no longer cleared to wrestle. Cole decides to continue the match.
After Cole gets in some offense, but it’s not long before Dark Order take over and work Cole over methodically. Uno is working as the heel manager whenever he can, and Dark Order isn’t work hell, just ruthless in the match until Reynolds grabs the belt. The belt is dropped in the ring as Cole is able to take everyone out and then drops.
MJF forces his way through the officials and gets on the apron for the tag. MJF runs wild on Dark Order while still grabbing his neck. MJF hits the kangaroo kick and then Cole takes out Uno. Cole is tagged in for the double clothesline on Reynolds for the pin and the win.
Winner: MJF
It feels like they’ve done the :”injured man comes back to save the match” too much lately, so I hope this is the last time we see it for a good, long time. Still, it gave the crowd a reason to cheer louder. I have a feeling this is a show where they go out of their way to make the crowd happy.
Samoa Joe comes to the ring and MJF is leaving, and Joe just shoves MJF out of his way. Cole holds MJF back from going after him, but MJF doesn’t listen and attacks Joe in the ring. Joe locks on a guillotine choke and security has to break them up.
Joe is laughing and MJF looks like a wild man as he goes to the back
Samoa Joe (Ring of Honor TV Champion) vs Shane Taylor
Joe charges in with blows and Taylor is able to fire back, and he and Joe go at each other with Taylor dropping Joe. They quickly move to brawling on the floor, and this is just gonna be a hoss fight. They return to the ring and Taylor hits a sidewalk slam for two and they go back to throwing bombs.
Joe hits a dive onto Taylor and then back into the ring with a series that takes down Taylor, but kicks out at one. Joe locks on a sleeper, but Taylor gets a rope assisted stunner. Both men are drenched in sweat as they are just going at each other, full tilt. After they throw hands for a while longer, Joe grabs the Coquina clutch and Taylor has a tap out.
Winner and still ROH TV Champion: Samoa Joe
THAT was a hoss fight. Just two big men throwing bombs and I loved it.
Luchasaurus (AEW TNT Champion) w/Christian Cage vs Darby Allin w/Nick Wayne
Jim Ross has tagged in and Kevin Kelly has tagged out at commentary
Darby has said he messed up his back at All In.
Christian Cage is gold every time he has a mic in his hand, and his run as the TNT Champion…Um, championship holder, has been a lot of fun.
Derby attacks quickly and gets a few hits before it's time for Luchasaurus to toss him around the arena. As Darby is swung into the steel steps head first, I would like to remind everyone:
DON’T DO WHAT DARBY DOES.
Darby is busted open and Luchasaurus keeps tossing Darby into the steel steps. He then puts Darby under the steps and stands on them. Darby makes it into the ring for more damage. Darby gets in a few moves but when he leaps off the top into Luchasaurus, he just bounces off. As the match goes on, they really need to let Luchasaurus just crush Darby to make him seem like an unbeatable monster.
This is how to book a Monster.
Luchasaurus is sat in a chair at ringside and Darby does a leap onto him. They get into the ring and Darby gets a crucifix bomb for two.
This is how NOT to book a Monster.
Luchasaurus hits a suplex, and Darby makes it look like he landed on his head. As Luchasaurus has Darby in a torture rack, Cage hands Nick Wayne a towel to throw in. Darby is abel to escape and leap onto Cage on the floor.
Darby is able to get an avalanche Code Red from the top for two. The crowd is upset and thinks it was a three. As Darby goes to the top, Cage sets on a conchairto. That allows Luchasaurus to hit a series of tombstones and then tosses him into the turnbuckle, followed by a lariat for the pin and the win.
Winner and still AEW TNT Champion: Luchasaurus
After the match, Luchasaurus holds Nick Wayne and forces him to watch as Cage sets up on conchairto. Shawn Spears and other runs from the locker room to run them off.
