Powerhouse Hobbs vs Miro
I don’t think we’re gonna get a lot of mat wrestling. Jim Ross says that Tony needs to build his company on these guys, and I couldn't agree more. BOTH men get a huge crowd reaction and their matches feel like a big deal. They just need to let them BE a big deal and give them big mountains to climb.
They just go at each other. Miro gets to beat down Hobbs in the corner, and then Hobbs clotheslines him down. Miro gets the advantage and nails a drop kick. Hobbs is able to reverse it after a series of kicks with a suplex. Hobbs misses a splash in the corner and goes to the floor and the fight moves to the floor.
This is just big men doing power moves. The crowd chants “Slap that meat”.
Hobbs slaps on a rear chinlock and keeps Miro down. Miro works his way out and they hit a series of splashes into each other, then clotheslines. The crowd is all over this match. Hobbs finally goes down and Miro hits a series of blows on Hobbs’s chest in the ropes. They move ro fighting on the top and Miro hits a suplex from the top.
The crowd has come alive and is reacting to everything as much as they did the MJF match. Hobbs hits a power slam that gets a bigger pop than any tope. Hobbs gets a series of clothesline and Miro counters for a knockdown. MIro calls for Game Over and locks it on. Hobbs slowly powers up and backs Miro into the turnbuckles.
Hobbs gets a spinebuster for two. Hobbs looks to lock on Game Over on Miro, who gets out and hits a spinebuster of his own. Miro locks in Game Over again and Hobbs has to tap out.
Winner: Miro
After the match, Hobbs holds out his hand. Miro shakes his hand and we get a huge pop from the crowd. Hobbs then attacks Miro and beats him down. We see “Hot and Flexible” on the screen, and Miro’s wife runs to the ring and nails Hobbs with a chair. Hobbs grabs the chair and drops it, Miro grabs the chair and nails Hobbs with it.
Miro backs away from her and leaves the ring. The announcers just call her “Miro’s wife”, so they haven’t decided on her name yet. Miro is shouting “You’re not real" as he backs up the ramp.
Kris Statlander (AEW TBS Champion) vs Ruby Soho
They do a series of quick takedowns where each pops right back up. They move to brawling outside the ring, and we get Saraya running from Statlander and Soho attacks from the apron. Toni Storm isn’t at ringside, so I have a feeling she will be involved later in the match.
They move into the ring and Ruby takes over and Statlander is fighting from underneath. After both of them go down and struggle to get back up, Statalnder starts fighting back and gets her big stuff in. Soho cuts her off with a suplex, but Statl;ander hits a few moves for a two count. Both women are working hard, in a position following a match the crowd exploded for.
Statlander hits an avalanche power slam for two. Soho follows with a poinsonrana, a DDT, and a low hurricanrana for a two count. As they start slapping each other to their feet, the crowd finally stuarts chanting for both of them. Soho his No Future and Destination Unknown for two. Soho grabs the spray paint and Toni Storm comes out from under the ring and steals the spray paint. Statlander hits Sunday Night Fever for the pin and the win.
Winner and still AEW TBS Champion: Kris Statlander
This match was a cardio endurance match and both women did everything they could to bring the crowd up after Miro and Hobbs. I give them big props for their hard work. In a lot fo ways, I am seeing thai show as the locker room working hard to overcome the circumstances they were handed.
Storm is amazing in her new role. Just her facial expressions and actions are awesome.
Ricky Steamboat joins commentary and Jim Ross bows out.
Ricky Starks w/Big Bill vs Bryan Danielson in a strap match
Danielson has “Final Countdown” as his entrance music. He wears a Blackpool Combat Club hoodie and fist bumps people at ringside.
Starks refuses to get strapped and then grabs a belt and goes after Danielson on the floor with it. And Danielson is busted open.
THEN Starks allows the strap to be attached. Starks works over Danielson on the floor. He drags Danielson to the ring and beats him down and then poses. Nigel is blaming all of this on Ricky Steamboat. Danielson fires up with head butts and kicks. Starks cuts him off and goes back to beating down Danielson. After Danielson escapes from an attack on the top, he uses the strap on Starks.
When Starks is mouthing off to Steamboat, Danielson pulls him into the ring post with the strap. Danielson ties Starks up to the ringpost and Starks is now busted open. After Dan9ielson gets the kicks in the corner, they both start beating each other with the strap until Danielson starts to fire up. Starks gives up with the whipping and Danielson beats him down with the strap. Then kicks.
This is when Big Bill interferes. Steamboat pulls Bill off the apron and lays in chops. Bill grabs Steamboat and Danielson tosses Starks into Bill, and then leaps onto Staks and Bill. They return to the ring and Danielson goes for the psycho knee, but Starks cuts him off with a spear for twol Starks rains down blows on Danielson. Daneilson escapes the rochambeau and hits the psycho knee for two.
Danierlson says he will stomp in Starks’ Freakin’ head.
He didn’t say freakin.
After he does, he goes for the Labell lock. Danielson instead wraps the strap around Starks’s neck and chokes him out.
Winner: Bryan Danielson
Nigel says Adam Page will donate his $50,000 for the Chicago Public Education fund. https://thefundchicago.org/
Katusyori Shibata and Eddie Kingston vs Claudio Castagnoli & Wheeler Yuta
Taz joins commentary. Eddie is wearing a “Claudio Sucks Eggs” shirt.
Yuta and Shibata start off with actual wrestling. Really good mat work between the two and Taz is good at selling it. Claudio tags in and they trade a few holds and when Eddie tags in, Claudio tags out.
Yuta and Eddie trade chops. Eddie goes outside and he and Claudio start brawling. Yuta leaps into them and Claudio presses the advantage. Eddie is rolled into the ring and Claudio tags in to keep up his attack. Yuta tags in and Eddie is the babyface in peril, but Claudio turns his back to Eddie when he is not in the ring. This is a storyline match instead of a brutal brawl.
Claudio and Yuta keep Eddie in the ring with tags. Shibata is able to get the hot tag but and he works over Claudio. Shibata gets a triangle choke, and Claudio is able to power him up and slam him down. Yuta tags in and hits a fastball special into Shidata for two. Shibate hits a brutal strike on Yuta and then ties up his legs. Claudio comes in the ring to hits Shibate with chops and Shibate calls for more, and then he gets an ankle lock on Claudio.
Claudio escapes and hits an uppercut, knocking Shibata down which is more painful for Yute. Shibata tags in Eddie and Eddie goes to work. The tag team siren goes off and all four men are fighting in the ring. Shibata and Claudiuo throw uppercuts. Shibata wins with an upper hand palm strike.
They keep fighting on the floor. Eddie and Yuta keep up their fight in the ring. Yuta tags in Claudio and they have a slap fight before moving into power moves. Kingston hits the back fist, the northern lights bomb into a two, broken up by Yuta. Shibata holds True in a sleeper to stop his attacks, but Claudio hits an uppercut for the pin and the win.
Winners: Claudio Castagnoli and Wheeler Yuta
