The show opened with Kid Rock introducing the show. I will be honest, given his feelings towards people different than him, I didn’t watch what he had to say. I like everyone. The world would be a better place if we didn’t hate people that didn’t think differently than we do, but I will get off of my soap box.
We are opening with Logan Paul vs. Ricochet, which Mike Johnson reported earlier today. You announcers are the in-demand Michael Cole and Corey Graves. As an aside, props to Cole for being so important to the brand that Endeavor and the TV partners know they need him on both shows. I am sure the goal is to create the next guy but right now it doesn’t appear to be Kevin Patrick. I hope he is an eager learner and will get the message that he needs to hear, he needs to keep growing. My advice? Be like Cody Rhodes. When they tell you no, make them say yes.
Paul is in control early, including messing with Ricochet’s fiancé Samantha Irvin. As usual, Paul’s stuff is really good. He just did a running powerslam to mock Braun Strowman. Cerebral stuff.
They just did spots that defy gravity and I have no idea how Richard will describe. These two guys move in ways that normal human beings shouldn’t be able to move.
Paul got the first cover that I remember but Ric kicked out. This is super athletic. Now it’s time to start telling a story.
And they started that with a sick flying neckbreaker spot from the top. Ric is up first. He may be getting momentum. Yes, he is.
Ric had a pin attempt and when it didn’t work he told Paul he wanted him to kick out. Hope that isn’t a mistake.
Paul did a moonsault, Ric caught him, but Paul his a tornado DDT. Thus dude is insane, He obviously loves this. This has a lot of spottiest in it but when the spots are this good, well if it’s just one match I am OK with it.
Ric did a Shooting Star but landed in Paul’s knees. Ric is selling the ribs. Paul hit an insane springboard frog splash. The dude is nuts. The story is that Ric keeps kicking out.
Ric did some crazy athletic stuff but only got a two. Ric missed the 630. One of Paul’s stooges then put brass knux on Logan and he hit Ricochet in the face to win the match. Cole said, “That was a great match up but the ending sucked”. Yep, he said it perfectly. At the end of the day, I have to think it was done to have Ricochet right the wrong that was done to him.
These two are not human. It was a spot fest but I was fine with that since these two are not human. I liked it as an opener. It has to be the only spotfest of the night and I think it will be. If anyone should be in a spot fest it’s those two. Their big spots are things almost no one can do.
Sheamus just showed up in a big ass monster truck.
No one wants to be in second match on a PLE? No one told Cody and Brock that. They are up next. I think they will deliver and now that I think about it, having them follow a spottier match is kind of like having two first matches, if that makes sense.
The video to build to Brock-Cody is awesome. I just told my son-in-law it’s like when HHH was booking NXT and they had so much great stuff, when his team put together the video packages it brought everyone up to speed whether they had been watching or not.
Brock out first. He is NOT loved in Detroit.
They let Brock walk around a bit before they hit Cody’s music. HUGE POP. Cody has to win, he has to.
The bell rang and Cody went after Cody only to get a suplex. But Cody is coming back with kicks. Brock took control but missed a spear in the corner. Cody hit a tope and the fans are chanting his name. Brock with a drive on the floor into the post. The Beast is back in control.
Brock is a beast. Cody’s mom is not enjoying what he’s doing to her son. Cody is taking a beating, as you would expect. It will mean a lot if he can take it and then overcome. You, the whole journey thing I have talked about.
Brock just told Cody it will only get worse. Cody is taking it. If he is going to beat Brock, he should take a beating first. If he doesn’t win, well then it’s a mistake. Right now the story is Cody won’t stay down, he keeps coming back.
Cody just ate an F5 on the floor. Brock told Cole to tell Cody to stay down. Cody will now, no way no how. Brock is not happy.
Cody got a few shots in and Brock just nuked Cody through the announce table. Cole is telling him to stay down, in no uncertain terms. Cody will not and the fans are loving the heart. Brock is like WTF as fans start to chant for Cody. He keeps trying to fight but gets tossed by Lesnar.
As Brock suplexed Cody, he ripped off a top turnbuckle. They went to the floor where Cody’s did a few post shots and hit him with the stairs. Cody got a two after hitting some big moves and the Cutter.
He went for Crossroads but Brock synced in the Kimura instead, Cody won’t tap. He’s trying to get to the ropes. He got it!
Brock went for the F5 but Cody pushed him into the exposed turnbuckle. Cody locked on a Kimora. Brock is screaming but then powered out. This is a long Brock match and he is showing he can absolutely go long.
Brock went for the Kimura but Cody turned it into Crossroads. I yelled you need three and that’s what he did. Cody got the win.
Cody waited in the ring as Brock got up. I again yelled, this time put him over Brock. Brock gave him a head butt and a handshake. He then shook Cody’s hand and raised his arm. I loved it so much. Brock just gave so much to Cody. Cody hugged his mom after match. Nobody should ever say Brock can’t work a long match ever again. They both killed it. Great, great stuff, fantastic storytelling.
