Welcome to PWInsider.com’s coverage of Ring of Honor’s Honor For All 2021 PPV from a closed environment aka Baltimore, Maryland.
Let’s be honest, this is a weird show to watch as ROH, at least in its current form, is ending and this is in a lot of ways a lame duck show, but let’s see where it takes us.
The announcing team is Ian Riccaboni, Caprice Coleman and Brian Johnson. Johnson said he was here to scout some bozos. They ran down the lineup.
Taylor Rust cut a pre-show promo saying he was the newest Jewel in the company and came back to face and beat the man who taught him what Pure Wrestling was all about in their previous meeting, Tracy Williams. He said he was going to beat him and the honor will be all his
Taylor Rust vs. Hot Sauce Tracy Williams: Pure Rules match
They went back and forth with some nice strikes. Williams was in charge early, going after Rust’s arm. Rust tied up Tracy in a leg grapevine submission, which he maneuvered into a leglock. Williams attempted a rear naked choke but Rust fought out of it and grabbed an ankle lock, so Williams used his first rope break,
Williams snapped on a cross armbreaker, forcing Rust to use his rope break. So, Rust was now down to two as well. Rust went to the floor to reassess the situation, but when he returned, Williams was still in control outside of a few moments where Rust nailed some offensive maneuvers. Williams caught him in another submission, so Rust used another rope break. Rust was down to one more.
Rust caught him in the corner with a series of strikes and kicks. Williams went for another armbar but Rust escaped and locked in his own, forcing Tracy to use a rope break. Williams used a hanging armbar but Taylor had no more rope breaks and was almost submitted.
They got more and more physical, exchanging some forearm strikes and kicks. Rust finally caught Williams on the mat and locked him in a submission, forcing Williams to submit.
Your winner, Taylor Rust!
This was a super strong opening bout if you like technical wrestling.
They said Brian Johnson was being called to the back. Ian Riccaboni said things in ROH were going to be bittersweet going into Final Battle. There’s an understatement.
Each of the competitors in the women’s Four Way gave quick promos. Quinn noted that while her time in the division has been short, she’s been here longer than the others and that time is running out for her to get to the ROH Women’s title.
Miranda Alize joined Ian and Caprice on commentary.
The Righteous came out with VonStarr but did not accompany her to the ring
Lucha Rules: Holidead vs. Quinn McKay vs. Trish Adora vs. Vita Von Starr
Holidead and Adora battled back and forth early on. There weren’t tags due to the Lucha environment so everyone was liberally in and out of the ring getting some offense in until it settled down to Quinn being worked over by Holidead. Holidead smashed her into the buckles before nailing a suplex.
Holidead worked over Quinn’s shoulder with a powerbomb and used a pendulum to try and force a submission. Adora hit the ring but was also snatched into a powerbomb. VonStarr tagged in traditional style and battled Trish with forearm shivers. Adora began to build some momentum.
Quinn and Adora battled. Quinn locked in a head scissor and controlled her. Adora escaped and now she went after the shoulder. Adora turned a monkey flip into an over the knee backbreaker. Everyone hit the ring and battled each other. Quinn nailed an impressive gorilla press into a slam on VonStarr but Holidead hit the ring to break up the cover at two.
McKay nailed a dive on Trish and while they were out recovering, VonStarr was nailed with a double underhook into a slam and pinned.
Your winner, Holidead!
Holidead will challenge Rok-C for the ROH World Women’s title on the 12/25 weekend edition of ROH TV, which they stated would be the final edition of this era of ROH.
This was more of a sprint than a slower, nuanced wrestling match, but everyone worked pretty hard and had moments where they were spotlighted. Holidead was the last person I expected to win here, given how much Quinn and Trish have been focused on in recent months and VonStarr has never really been given a spotlighted moment during her tenure.
