By Dave Scherer on 2006-10-17 19:05:00

BACK WITH A REGULAR SHOW, RAW RATING DROPS

Last night's edition of Raw did a 3.7 cable rating, with a five share.  That is down from last week's 3.8 and down from the 4.1 they did last week in the last two hours of the show.  Last week the show did a 4.2 from 9 to 10 p.m. and 4.0 from 10 to 11 p.m.  This week, the show did a 3.6 and a 3.7.

As has been the pattern lately, the highest rated quarter was the 10:00 segment, which did a 4.4.  The only other segment to do a 4.0 was the overrun.  The 10:45 quarter was the low point of the evening, doing just a 3.3.

Once again, Raw was affected by Monday Night Football, which did a 11.7 cable rating, up from last week's 10.3.

WWE NEWS ON JIM ROSS, STEVE AUSTIN, JOHN CENA, A FUN JAPAN TRIP AND MORE

Jim Ross did his latest blog yesterday after getting home from Sunday's Supershow taping.  In it, he talks about comparisons between Umaga and Samoa Joe, Kurt Angle, Undertaker's role in WWE and more.  To read it, click here.

By the way, happy anniversary wishes are in order JR and his bride.

The Hollywood Reporter wrote the following about John Cena's new film "The Marine".  "Fox released the other new film of the week, World Wrestling Entertainment Films' "The Marine," which earned $7.14 million, slightly better than forecast. The vehicle for WWE star John Cena scored positively with most audiences, earning a Cinemascore grade of B-plus."

With the budget they had for the flick, they are a long way from being profitable.

The Victoria Advocate has a story today covering Steve Austin signing autographs in his hometown area this Saturday to raise money for the American Cancer Society.  To read it, click here.

WWE is pushing the new issue of WWE magazine called "EXPOSED!  The Secret Lives of WWE Superstars," which you can buy at their website.  Here's the description of it that they sent out this morning.  "Go where you’ve never gone before! In WWE Magazine’s special October issue, we’ll take you inside the homes and lives of the Superstars and Divas to let you see how they live and what they do with their time outside the ring! See Triple H’s super chopper, Big Show’s Titanic yacht, Edge’s bachelor pad, Torrie’s satin sheets and much more. And if that wasn’t enough, the free poster inside gives you a chance to be in the middle of a Diva sandwich."

The ABC News website has a story about Kevin Federline's appearance on Raw last night, so at least he is getting the publicity that he was looking for in pitching his new CD.  Whether that will get anyone to buy it is another matter altogether, especially when you consider that WWE couldn't get their fans out, en masse, to see "The Marine".

The Raw and ECW talents will be in Japan for two shows tomorrow and Thursday nights.  Let's just say I didn't hear of anyone who was looking forward to doing that trip.  Going across the world in back in a few days is anything but fun.

Thanks to Mike K and Jeff Sheridan for their help with this post.

World Wrestling Entertainment's DVD distribution deal with the Weinstein's Genius Entertainment has gotten a ton of media coverage today, including a story in the New York Post. The Kevin Federline appearance has also gotten the company some publicity.

However, Steven Feldman sent the following...The WWE DVD distribution deal is on the cover of today's Daily Variety, and continues on the inside. On the continuation page is a headshot of Vince. On the cover? A photo of Kurt Angle. I'm sure that will make the folks in Stamford happy.

WWE announced the kickoff of their Wrestlemania Reading Challenge yesterday.

Todd Shane of the Gymini publicly announced his engagement to Dafne Alvarez today in Illinois newspaper the Galesburg Register-Mail today at this link. Our best wishes to the happy couple, who will be married on 10/27 in Puerto Rico.

Ian sent the following update on former WWE star Joanie Laurer... Joanie recently appeared on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" to promote "The Cougar Club" and TBS' "Midnight Money Madness". A new "Illegal Aliens" PR tour is being scheduled for early 2007 to promote the film. In March 2006 Joanie went to New York to promote the movie and in early 2007 both Anna and Joanie will be doing a multi-state tour to promote the movie. Tour dates will be announced as it gets closer. The film's release has been delayed at request of Anna Nicole due to her son's death but the film's director David Giancola has stated that it will be released in coming months. The debut of "Surreal Life Fame Games" starring Joanie on VH-1 has been moved to 1/7/07. With the new season of "Hogan Knows Best" coming out it is likely they didn't want two pro wrestlers back to back.
