Wrestling Open RI
5/12/25 Cranston, RI
Spotlight Match: Rain Conway vs Jermaine Marbury (w/ Benny the Basketball)
Rain has been Open’s punching bag for several weeks and the emotional bruises are showing. He hates this crowd and they hate him back. Marbury with his normal high energy offense but Rain drags him down to his level, slowly grinding the basketball man down. Marbury fires back up, hits the Kobe and a juke cutter puts the crabby BIOpro kid down. Again, this is type of scenario where Rain shines.
Match 1: Miracle Ones (Dustin Waller, Kylon King & Ichiban) vs Bryce Donovan, Vinny Scalise & Jariel Rivera
The Wrestling Open champ is here with his squad to face the reunited Miracle Ones (with number one contender Ichiban). Scalise might start the match strong against Ichi but an errant tag out to Rivera shows who the weak link in this trio truly is. Bryce is VERY dismayed as Jariel just keeps getting triple teamed…but he doesn’t give up at least? Dustin finally eats a cheap shot and gets put on the receiving end of Bryce’s beatdown. Hot tag to Ichi who destroys Rivera and Vinny while Bryce recovers on the outside. Ichiban has Rivera set for an Ichi Bankai but Bryce pulls his legs! Miracle Gen with the Powerplex on Scalise! Bryce serving up chokeslams! Vinny with a lungblower on Ichi for two! Crowd fired wayyyyyy up for this! Bryce offers the pin up to Rivera to prove he can get the job done….Rivera immediately gets rolled up for the three before Bryce can even turn around on the apron! Bryce is FURIOUS. This match was awesome.
Match 2: Julius Draeger vs Brando Lee
No one likes the “Bully of BIOPro” or as I like to call him, Temu-thy Thatcher. Of course he tries to bully the crowd favorite Lee but is getting tossed and dragged in the early going. He finally hits an impactful rolling powerslam and just starts laying in the stuff beating. Draeger’s upside here is in how impactful he can make some of these slams and strikes feel. Brando repeatedly tries to escape but Draeger blasts him back down. Draeger finally eats a buckle, setting up a rolling DVD and Lee comes off the top for the three!
Match 3: Nick Batee vs Bobby Orlando
Since the crowd didn’t see him Sunday, Bobby gets a “Happy Mother’s Day” chant! Batee does NOT like this. Nick is…voguing? Orlando grabs Batee’s megaphone and commentates his beatdown of Nick. It’s delightful. Bobby punks out Nick and gives him a dope slap in the head. Nick fired up and tries repeatedly to put our Mom away, even hitting a modified People’s Elbow. Bobby gutted on the top rope and a running boot almost puts him away. Bobby with a boot and an AA almost gets the job done! Nick tries a suplex but Orlando backslides him for the three!
Nick immediately attacks after the bell and the crowd calls him out for this temper tantrum. Batee looks to crack Bobby with the megaphone but Jermaine Marbury slides in to make the save for our mom! Marbury tells to go find that Gym Rat Gal and be here in two weeks on Memorial Day for a showdown with him and Bobby! Let’s gooooo!
Match 4: Brick City (Victor Chase & Julio Cruz) vs Moist Boys (DJ Powers & Georgio Lawrence)
Big Rizz and Julio are making their presence felt early. Of course, DJ and Lawrence with a cheap shot and starts to overwhelm Chase. No one likes this. Cruz finally tags in a tosses everyone. Great brain buster to Lawrence. Powers and Chase get into the brawl and Ref Gina loses control of the match. Ring the bell, this becomes a no contest!
TJ Crawford is being interviewed by Rich Palladino, talking about how nothing was solved by the tag battle. Junie Underwood slides in and says he’s not leaving until someone gives him a match. TJ is HAPPY to oblige him.
Match 5: TJ Crawford vs Junie Underwood
Crawford isn’t even in wrestling gear. Him and Underwood scramble fast but he quickly catches Junie with a silver bullet in barely a minute and gets the easy three. This was legal Murder.
Match 6: Paris Van Dale vs Liviyah (Lumberjack Match)
No count outs tonight! It is definitely a VERY babyface-centric lumberjack set tonight. The crowd LOVES Liviyah. Paris sent to the floor quickly and the lumberjacks don’t throw her back in so much as shame her into going back in herself. Liv sent out herself and the lumberjack help her back in there but Paris just swarms her on the roll in. Paris keeps kicking Liviyah back to the floor. She finally wraps up a sleeper on the top rope but Liv throws her down! Paris hits the short ddt but Liv kicks out! Paris tries to sent her to the floor again but Liviyah launches her self back in with a spear! The crowd is hot for this one but you have all the lumberjacks slapping the ring and firing everyone up! Liviyah hitting shoulder blocks and clotheslines! Paris almost scores the three with a roll up reversal of the show stopper but Liviyah finally hits that finish for the three!
Match 7: Marcus Mather vs Timothy Thatcher (non-title match)
A non-title match? That sure seems…odd to me. Thatcher looks pretty intense (more than usual) and definitely ANNOYED this isn’t for the gold. The cruel Thatcher of old is here clearly, stopping Marcus in his tracks and enjoying inflicting pain on the Young Prodigy as he twists him up. If he can’t win the belt, he will at least prove that he belongs in contention for it. Mathers does manage to reverse some of this grappling but Thatcher is quick to take control back. Timmy Murderface in full effect. Marcus starting to rally, the crowd fully behind him (even if I am not, sorry I can’t boo Thatcher). Thatcher keeps coming, Marcus turns him back several times trying to toss him from the top…he finally slaps Tim to the floor and hits a 450 for a clean as a whistle pin. I enjoyed this a lot but this SHOULD have been a title match.
Main Event: Swipe Right (Brad Baylor & Ricky Smokes)(c) vs Shooter Boys (Aaron Ortiz & Anthony Vecchio) (for the Wrestling Open Tag Team Championships)
What an opportunity for the young Shooter Boys to put a real stamp on their rise at Wrestling Open RI! Shooter Boys definitely shock the champs early force them to retreat to the floor and strategize. Swipe Right is definitely confident, rightfully so…but you should never look past the challengers in your face and that is clearly blowing up in their faces. The first five of this contest is ALL SHOOTER BOYS. The crowd is loving this. Brad tries to distract the ref and even THAT doesn’t go right for the champs. They brawl to the floor, Vecchio gets taken out and Ortiz is planted throat first into the top rope. The tide has turned quickly. Vecchio back to the apron and reaching hard for that tag. Swipe Right are finally with the program and working Ortiz over but they can’t get the job DONE. A German gets Aaron free to make the tag! Double German from Vecchio!!! Big belly to belly toss to Smokes for two! This is a HOT match! Baylor tries to interfere but Ortiz cactus clotheslines him out! Smokes survives long enough for Baylor to recover, tossing Vecchio off the top to the floor. A swing neckbreaker version of a magic killer can’t finish Ortiz! Swipe Right get double crotched on the top rope!!!! Stereo high crossbodies for two!!! Tandem blockbuster suplex to Smokes, they should have this but Baylor distracts the ref. Out of nowhere, Vinny Scalise slides in with the Wrestling Open title belt, blasts Vecchio while Ref Scott is distracted and Ricky gets the three. Fantastic match! The Shooter Boys absolutely showed out in this one.
Bryce Donovan and Jariel Rivera hit the ring to congrats the champs. Vinny says the Shooter Boys got in their business a couple of weeks ago so they are going to get into THEIR business. Bryce goes for the attack but the Miracle Ones run down to make the save! This sure is looking like two very angry teams of five staring each other down…But we’re nowhere NEAR Thanksgiving! Ichiban stakes his claim as potentially the next Wrestling Open Champion when they face each other in two weeks as Bryce watches from the doorway.
