Welcome to my live, ongoing AEW Double or Nothing 2024 blog, sponsored by our great friends at RingsideCollectibles.com, who have a ton of AEW and WWE action figures on sale right now as part of their Memorial Day Sale!

Next up is AEW Champ Swerve Strickland with Prince Nana vs. Christan Cage with minions.  Swerve really needs a kickass match here as his edge has greatly deteriorated in recent weeks.

Prince Nana recreated "Warriors, come out to plaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay" from the classic film, calling out Swerve.  HUGE POP.

Some decent back and forth wrestling early.  Swerve had control until missing a leap where Cage moved.  Swerve hit the ring barricade.  Page worked him over.  Nana rallied the fans but Cage maintained control.  He nailed a splash off the top for a two count.  Cage controlled him and went for a spear but was powerslammd and covered for a two count.

Swerve started showing some charisma, which the crowd loved as he played to them.  He pulled Cage's shirt over Cage's face and hockey fought him, then hit several neckbreakers.  Cage cut him offf and used a Texas Cloverleaf.  Swerve fought to the ropes but was pulled back.  Solid so far.  Nick Wayne's mom tried to grab the AEW title belt.  Nana snatched it from her but was caught with it by the referee.  Paul Turner ejected Nana and the crowd TURNED on him.

Cage distracted the referee, allowing Killswitch and Wayne to attack Swerve on the floor.  Mom distracted the referee, setting up Killswitch going to nail the champ but Swerve ducked and Cage was nailed.  Swerve took out the minions but missed a move off the top and was speared by Cage.  The crowd  chanted for Swerve.  Paul Turner caught them trying to interfere again and tossed Cage's minions out.  The crowd loved the referee again!

It was down to being one on one.

They battled to the floor.  Swerve set up the stairs as an instrument of destruction as Turner pleaded with him that it wasn't needed.  Cage tried to escaped but Swerve blocked him,  They battled over putting each other through the stairs.  Swerve was sent into the stairs.

There is a CHRISTIAN LIKES FISHSTICKS sign.  Someone is a South Park fan.

Cage tried to remove a turnbuckle pad.  The referee stopped him, but that allowed Nick Wayne to hit a cutter on the floor.  Nana chased him with a pope through the crowd.  Cage nailed the Tomakaze on Swerve, who kicked up.

Cage set up to put Swerve through the announcer's table but Swerve cut him off and drilled him down to the mat with a double knee strike.  The table didn't even BUDGE.  Ouch!

Back in the ring, Swerve nailed a big running kick to the back of the head and hit the Swerve Stomp off the top.  He asked who's house?  The crowd chanted it was his and Swerve scored the pin.

Good, well wrestled bout.  I don't think anyone believed Cage would win the title, so it could only hit so much in terms of drama but the crowd was into it once the ref tossed Nana and this was a good first defense for Swerve.
