Samoa Joe (AEW World Champion) vs. Swerve Strickland (with Prince Nana)
Jim Ross joins commentary, and vocally, he sounds better than he has in a while.
Crowd is overwhelmingly on Swerve’s side and have been chanting for him since Zero Hour. The lighting is done in such a way that makes this feel like a Big Title Title Match.
Joe’s attacks are strong, and when Joe does the walk off from Swerve’s leap, Swerve lands on his feet and waits for Joe to turn and kicks him. They go to the floor and into the announcer’s table. Once they are on the floor, Joe takes over and just beats down Swerve over and over. They return to the ring and Joe literally beats Swerve down in the corner.
The crowd is still chanting for Swerve, but Joe is taking Swerve apart in the ring. Swerve is finally able to get an attack on Joe’s elbow and then zeros in on it as he attacks. Swerve gets a pair of two counts and he keeps trying to chop Joe down. He goes back to work on Joe’s arm and tries to get a cross arm breaker, but Joe is able to pick up Swerve and get a buckle bomb followed by a muscle buster for two.
Swerve gets a series of big high flying moves on Joe and after a two count, Joe is able to grab the title belt. Joe misses witht he belt, as does Swerve as the ref is distracted, and Joe grabs the coquina clutch. Swerve breaks free by twisting Joe’s thumb and does the arm snap on Joe. Joe is laid out as Swerve turns slowly to go for the win. Swerve gets another near fall.
They fight on the top and Swerve gets a power bomb and Swerve stomp for the pin and the win.
