Wrestling Open - Week 111
2/15/23 - Worcester, MA
iwtv.live
Y’all - I’ve been down with the sickness for a couple weeks so I missed not one but TWO weeks of Open in a row. I hate it! Anywho, I have some catching up to do! Let’s get up to speed so I know what the hell is going on (especially for the Jumbo Grand Prix) when I get back to Worcester tomorrow night! Upside, I get to hear what’s been going on at commentary with Paul Crockett & Brother Greatness.
Match 1: Griffin McCoy & Pat Dynamite vs Waves & Curls (Jaylen Brandyn & Traevon Jordan)
Waves & Curls always brings the party to Worcester. Griffin can’t quite handle that big man energy coming from Traevon Jordan. Great tandem leg drop but McCoy is out at one. Dynamite comes in to eat a launching corner splash and a huge shot from Jordan. McCoy pulls the leg of Jordan and the tide turns hard. Dynamite picks right at that leg and the target is bright red. Lots of double teaming on Traevon, tandem neck breaker but only a two. Dynamite tossed to the floor, tag to Jaelyn! Flying tornado ddt! Head scissor takedown to McCoy. Crowd fired up for Brandyn! Frog splash elbow should end it but Pat Dynamite breaks up the pin. Jaelyn collides McCoy and Dynamite…Griffin stumbles back into a Wave Check to end the match!
Winners: Waves & Curls
Trae needs the mic? They have the IWTV tag titles on their mind BUT….they are still a little sore at how the Kellys beat them a few weeks ago via eye rake. Traevon takes his shoe off to show the size of the boot that is coming for them NEXT week!
Match 2: Los Toxicos (Sucio & Amore) vs Shook Crew (Bryce Donovan & Bobby Orlando)
Shook Crew is probably a bad first opponent for the debuting Los Toxicos. But if you want a test against one of the strongest teams that Worcester has…this is a great start. Commentary makes a point to mention that Los Toxicos got this spot after the open tryouts that were held the week before. Shook is absolutely running them over in the early minutes until Amore pulls out the leg of Orlando and Mom collides with the buckles. Orlando taking the heat but he flips free and tags to a VERY fired up Bryce Donovan. 3D!!!! Amore gets suckered into a splash. Black hole slam from Bryce and a Virtue Signal closes this out.
Winners: Shook Crew
Bryce on the mic. He admits they came up short against Miracle Generation. He says Shook Crew is recharged and reinvigorated….and they want a shot at the Wrestling Open Tag Team championships. Brick City is out of the curtain and offended that Shook Crew thinks they can just GET a shot after being taken out of the Jumbo Grand Prix AND losing their IWTV title shot. Bricky City doesn’t think they deserve it….but they are willing to do some big business. Brick City says if Shook Crew can beat an opponent of their choosing in five minutes next week…..they will CONSIDER it. Donovan says it is ON.
Rich Palladino says that he will be off of Open for the next couple of weeks and he is having Lauren St. James step up into the main show and handle announcing duties for the next couple of weeks….but she’s also announcing the next match! We like Lauren, here in Worcester.
Match 3: Ricky Smokes vs Landon Hale
Smokes and Hale have clashed before. Let’s see if the Good Doctor can get a win back against the smoke show. Hale’s very athletic and fast paced and is really taking it to Smokes. Smokes with a hard chop but the doctor just turns it right around. Smokes with a monkey flip style gut buster. Smokes is furious and hits a huge dropkick to the back of the head. Only a two count. Brain buster? No luck. Landon firing back, Smokes gets tossed off the top! Spinning backbreaker and second buckle snake eyes! Slingshot cutter for two! Landon looking to wrap this up..SPO Driver? Smokes slips it. Kick to the head…..he tries to launch into the ring but Landon blasts a knee! Package neck breaker! He goes for the SPO Driver again…Smokes launches him into the buckle. Smokes with a standing double stomp closes this out with a single devastating shot.
Winner: Ricky Smokes
Match 4: Ichiban & Lucas Chase (w/ Brother Greatness) vs Stetson Ranch (Danny Miles & Hammer Tunis)
It’s Ranch time. Everyone hates it. Stetson has the mic but Ichiban’s music hits and stops that right away. Lucas Chase is his partner? Brother Greatness is with them. This is SO WEIRD TO SEE. Chase and BG are VERY behind Ichiban’s revival right now. BG says that Ichiban gave up losing for lent. Lol. Miles and Tunis are double teaming Ichiban and Chase makes the save. He is VERY confused by this. The crowd reminds Stetson how to spell his true name. Chase with a slam of Ichiban on Tunis. The communication and chemistry is still being worked on and the ranch absolutely takes advantage of this. Chase getting doubled up on and they keep the former Open champ off the apron. BG trying to will Chase on from commentary but he eats an elbow drop. BG runs to ringside! Ichiban with a right from the apron, he gets the tag and starts running over Tunis. Steven Stetson blindsides Brother Greatness with the northern lariat. Ichiban is distracted, Ranch hits a hart attack but Chase makes the save! Chase and Ichiban going for the kill but Stetson hits the ring and draws a DQ as he stomps out Ichiban. Brother Greatness hits the ring!
Winners: Ichiban and Lucas Chase (by DQ)
The ranch might be losers but they are owning the ring right now. Stetson is about to lay out Ichiban with a chair….Brother Greatness leaps in front of the shot! BG is taken out. Stetson gets that mic after all as Ichiban is being choked out in the corner. He was ROBBED last week in the Jumbo Grand Prix. Tonight, he’s gonna make Ichiban pay for it. Tyree Taylor hits the ring and clears Miles and Tunis. Stetson blasts him with the chair! Tyre blocks a second shot and Stetson gets the hell out of there. How is Tyree going to rebound from this damage when he goes against TJ Crawford later tonight? The EMT hits the ring to check on Brother Greatness, who is still laid out and looks like he took that shot to the throat. Oof.
Match 5: Allie Katch, Gabby Forza & Kennedi Hardcastle vs The Bratz (Paris Van Dale, Shannon Levangie & Zayda Steel)
Welcome back to Worcester, Allie Katch! Do we call this trio GnomeKatsel? Regardless, they start unlading on the bratz. Shannon with a disrespectful shove on the head of Allie. This is not going to go well for the trouble maker. Shannon just eats a ton of elbow drops from everyone, including her own partners. WHOOPS. Forza with a double flapjack! Shannon slips the double fallaway and boots everyone off the apron and drops Gnomie. Triple team on Forza until she can power suplex her assailants. Katch with the tag! Seated senton into the ring! Cannonballs and a double northern lights! She hits a sole food but Shannon blasts a meteor. Headlock driver from Kennedi. Factor form Paris! Gnomie blasts her head off as we hit the final minute. Forza tossed out by Zayda but Katch rolls Steele up for the three!
Winners: Katch, Hardcastle & Forza
Jermain Marbury is out here to speak with Rich Palladino. How will Marbury react to having his championship opportunity stolen by Big Business. He’s not here to complain, he’s here to bounce back and that’s how he tapped out Julio Cruz last week. Marbury wants another shot. Big Bacon Brad Hollister comes on the screens. Bacon knows there’s money in the rematch AND he thinks that Marbury is a nice easy night for him. But he will make him earn it against an opponent of his choosing. This sounds familiar? The Big Business playbook is wide open. Marbury says the wager is on for NEXT WEEK.
Match 6: Brad Baylor vs Ryan Clancy (JGP Semifinal)
Baylor has his fans in Worcester but this is a very pro-Fancy crowd overall. Baylor is looking to show that he belongs at the top of the pile at Open. Can he make it 2-0 for Swipe Right? This is very competitive in the early going as Clancy has answers for Baylor but the tanned man keeps coming. Great step up headlock takeover from Clancy. Baylor fighting back, great powerslam for two but he can’t think this is enough to end it. Too much preening, Clancy with the roll up. Baylor gets caught a few times. He’s getting frustrated. Baylor staying on Clancy, good hair toss across the ring. Clancy dodges a corner dropkick! High knee and a lariat! Clancy gives Baylor a reciept for that hair toss. Slingshot cross body! Baylor kicks out! He tries for the side Russian but Baylor slips it. Clancy up to the top….Baylor with the dodge! Baylor tries a figure four…Clancy with a roll up! Foot on the rope! Baylor hits a blockbuster for two! He can’t put Clancy away! Shotgun into the buckles! Baylor tries a slingshot but hods the ropes. Not like this! The ref catches this cheat. They scramble back and forth until Clancy blasts Baylor with a dropkick for the win, making him the first finalist in the Jumbo Grand Prix!
Winner: Fancy Ryan Clancy
Main Event: Tyree Taylor (w/ Brother Greatness) vs TJ Crawford (JGP Semifinal)
Tyree is definitely the worse for wear after that chair shot earlier. But he’s coming out here to make a go of it…without Brother Greatness, who is still injured backstage. TJ going right for it but Tyree is shoving him off over and over. Tyree trying to protect his ribs and give some shots to Crawford early. Huge knee to the gut and a shoulder block. Back body toss and TJ goes flying! Tyree misses the corner charge and TJ goes right to the ribs. Dropping knees right into that target. The crowd is very much behind Tyree on this one but he is eating a beating from the Silver Sniper. Tyree finally hits a tilt a whirl gut buster. TJ struggling to his feet. Tyree hits a huge corner spear! Toss off the top! TJ blocks the discus lariat. POUNCE! Crowd popping for Tyree! TJ with a slingshot stunner! Top rope double stomp to the ribs! Tyree kicks output the tide has turned immensely. Tyree ducks the spinning kick..discus lariat! Tyree hits the Brooklyn Zoo bomb!!!! Tyree struggles to make the pin and TJ rolls to the outside. TJ makes it back inside but Taylor is tossing him around with abandon. Tyree throwing hands until the ref has to pull him off. There’s a brief distraction with the ref in the corner….TJ pokes the eyes and hits the Silver Bullet spin kick on Tyree…the lights are out and TJ pins him for the three. There’s your final! Clancy and TJ in a huge grudge match in the finals!
Winner: TJ Crawford
The finalists go head to head as we close out the show. They do NOT want to wait for “The Finish Line” and starts brawling. The locker room empties out to break this up! Are we calm? Hell no. There’s no calm to be had until these two can settle their year-long beef in a high-stakes main event next week!
