By Dave Scherer on 2023-05-06 20:06:00

Welcome to my Backlash blog.  Tonight should be interesting.  That crowd was ridiculously great last night for Smackdown.  I hope they bring it again tonight because that adds so much to a show.

Man, the footage of the island is beautiful.  I have never been there.  I may need to change that.

After a video recap of how we got here, with a lot of back story from Bad Bunny, we are live!  Your announcers are Michael Cole and Corey Graves.  Of course so are the Spanish Announce Team!  Cole told us the crowd is 17,944, more than last night.

We are opening up with Bianca Belair defending her Raw Women’s Title against Iyo Sky.  Champ is out first.  Sky is out second, without the rest of Damage CTRL.  This should be a good one.

Oh yeah, the crowd is hot.  They are going nuts already and are chanting for Iyo before they even announce her.  They love the champ too.  But it seems like Iyo is the majority pick.  Oh yeah, Iyo is the favorite for sure.  They are actually booing Bianca when she gets control.

Iyo has the slight advantage early but it got bigger when Iyo went to work on the arm of the champ.  The crowd is behind the challenger.

Bianca came back with a backbreaker but she went back to selling the arm before she could do anything.  But the champ fired back up and went back to her power game.  She did a military press that she switch to one hand.  Impressive display of power but she lost Iyo and she landed on her face.  Belair hit a moonsault but Sky kicked out at two.  I am curious if the crowd is so behind Iyo because they want to see a Title change.  Iyo came back and did a springboard dropkick that knocked the champ out of the ring.  Iyo went up for a moonsault to the floor but Belair pushed her in the ring.  She went for the 450 but Iyo got the legs up.  Iyo face planted the champ but only got a two count.  Iyo is looking great here.  Fight forever chant is starting.  Iyo with double knees in the corner but missed the stomp.  Bianca went for the KOD but Iyo threw her out of the ring.

Champ went for a handstand but got kicked in the gut.  Iyo hit the moonsault from the top rope to the floor.  The champ is in trouble as she gets rolled back in. Solo dos cuentas!

They fought on the top and Bianca hit a sit out powerbomb but Sky kicked out at two.  Out came Dakota Kai and Bayley.  The champ slugged Bayley and Sky grabbed the ponytail.  Bianca slugged her but Sky still almost pinned her.  Belair pulled Bayley into the ring and that let Dakota slug the champ.  Iyo went up to the top and Bayley grabbed the ponytail.  The ref saw it and broke it up.  That let Bianca hit the KOD for the win.

The story totally was Sky was better off without her partners and it cost her in the end.  Iyo got elevated in a big way in the loss.  Great match to start the show.  It’s not over between Sky and Belair since they are on the same brand.

Bad Bunny is in the back.  Big pop.  Rey came in.  They spoke en Espanol.  In walked Savio Vega, MASSIVE POP.  Maybe he will be Zelina’s cousin.  Anyway, big pop.  Bunny has a bad ass Kendo stick with the Puerto Rican flag on it thanks to Savio.

Cole told about the new World Title tournament.  No one can make sense of why Smackdown talents are eligible but here’s the thing, since they are if Roman Reigns doesn’t want to win the Title, they are telling us all it’s secondary.

Time for Seth Rollins vs. Omos.  Big man out first.  The crowd loved Seth and sang his song.  He was taking it in when Omos kicked him, shutting the fans down.  And, we’re off.

While Omos was creaming Seth, Cole told us we will fond out the six men in the tournament tomorrow. Again, if Reigns isn’t one of them this is a B Title.

Omos is destroying Rollins early.  Your eyes understand why.  The dude is huge and to be fair, he is getting better every time I see him.  He’s even showing personality, mocking the fans for not being able to sing the song.

Seth came back by taking out Omos’ leg.  He went for a Pedigree and got back dropped, while Omos was on his knees.  Rollins was able to hit a tornado DDT from the top and then a frog splash.  Omos kicked out at uno.

Rollins went to the neck of Omos.  He went for the Stomp but Omos powered out.  Chokeslam on Seth, two count only.  Seth managed to lock on a sleeper.  That is a sensible way to take out a giant.  But Omos powered up and hit a side slam on Seth.  Omos has improved a lot.  MVP came in the ring and the ref got involved.  This let Seth hit two Stomps, but Omos kicked out.

Rollins went to the top. As Omos got up, Seth hit a stomp from the top and got the win.

Omos has gotten a lot better.  They may actually have a problem in that if he keeps getting better, how doesn’t he beat everyone?  It’s a good problem to have.  This was way better than I expected it to be.

They showed us footage of yesterday’s press conference were Bad Bunny and Damien Priest got physical.
