And now, the main event of the evening, Roman Reigns vs. Sami Zayn for all of the marbles. I just sat down and watched the match rather than type while it was going on. I wanted to take it all in. Rich had the moves covered so I wanted to watch the drama play out. I fully understand that a lot of people watch wrestling for the moves. Part of me does too but I also watch to see what will happen from a drama standpoint. The why it’s happening matters more to me than the how it happens. So with that said, here are my thoughts on the main event.
*Roman Reigns is, by far, the best professional wrestler doing it today. He is the complete package. He is a great worker. He is a great promo. More importantly he is great at telling and selling a story. He can stand there for five minutes and not do one move, and he has the crowd lit. He and Sami both did that tonight.
*The work was great and the match itself was great.
*Sami showed the world how great he was and the booking was laid out perfectly. They showed that when you do one move that matters and resonates, it means so much more than doing ten that don’t.
*The story was great. Sami had the visual pin after the ref bump. The fans counted to 10. We saw Sami “pin” Roman. He wasn’t going to win the belt tonight but we now that he is capable of doing it.
*The finish and aftermath was perfect. What is going on? A LOT. Sami kicked Jey by accident when he came to Sami’s aid. What is up with them? What’s up with the brothers Uso? They seem to be on different sides? What does that mean? What’s up with KO and Sami? What’s up with the tag belts? And The Bloodline? The point is there is so much going on we aren’t even close to the end of the story, which means the best thing in wrestling will continue. I am great with that. We have a lot of time until Mania and we have a lot of story to tell.
So we went off the air with a great main event and a strong show overall. We have things set up for Mania with Cody-Roman, Brock-Bobby, Logan-Seth, Bianca-Asuka and more. It was a good show that ended with more ahead of us going into the biggest show of the year.
