By Mike Johnson on 2022-04-02 15:58:00

Welcome to my live, ongoing thoughts from the press room in AT&T Stadium for Wrestlemania 38 Night One in Dallas, Texas!

Before I start, no matter how you support the site, THANK YOU.  I especially want to thank everyone I saw over the past few days in Dallas.  I can't tell you how much I appreciate anyone and everyone who stopped to chat with me, especially in the middle of the chaos we were all submerging ourselves in.  Skipping the year where no one was allowed to attend, tonight is the 20th Wrestlemania I have attended while writing about the business, so thanks to ALL OF YOU for allowing that to happen.

We have a number of interviews with WWE stars up currently with several more slated to go up before tomorrow's Wrestlemania Night Two.

The crowd is currently filling in.  DJ Valentino is playing music.  The set and lighting design looks absolutely great:

WWE had a nice ceremony where Titus O'Neil honored some of the company's community champions involved in their outreach programs.  It was a nice moment.

Here is an exclusive scoop for everyone checking out the early thoughts: we are hearing Becky Lynch vs. Bianca Belair will go on very early in the show, likely placed fourth on the PPV broadcast.

Interesting to note there was no Legacy Hall of Fame class for 2022 listed in the official Wrestlemania program.

As always, a great opening video and lots of cool pyro.  It was only fitting to have the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders to add some pomp and circumstance.  it is Texas, after all.

We open with Shinsuke Nakamura & Rick Boogs vs. The Usos.  Nakamura and Boogs had new orange and black outfits that looked great.  It made them look like more of an official team and I always like the idea of Wrestlemania being like Christmas morning where the talents debut some new gear.

The Usos looked good early.  Nakamura hitting that back suplex off the ropes was cool.  Nakamura being superkicked as he went for the Kinshasa was a nice spot and him kicking up from the Superfly splash showed his fire.  The Usos beating him shortly after with the 3D was a bit of a surprise in that the bout was so quick.  It was 100% slated to go longer we are told.

Drew vs. Happy was next.  Really cool Drew entrance with the flames exploding behind him as he walked to the ring.  I cracked up that they gave Corbin pyro for some reason.  This was a solid match with the typical good vs. evil WWE formula.  Drew had a lot of fire in the ring but when Corbin hit the Deep Six, you could hear the air come out of the stadium.  Loved Madcap Moss saving Corbin from the Claymore only for both of them falling victim to the tope con hilo.  Corbin hitting the second Deep Six after ducking the Claymore was a GREAT near fall and when Drew finally scored the pinfall, Dallas popped huge. That is what is it's about.

Then, we had a little silliness with Drew trying to slice Madcap Moss with the sword, only to slice the ring ropes.  We heard an explosion in the media room, so I am guessing they had pyro timed for the moment.  Campy but hell, why not, it's Wrestlemania.

So far, show is OK!

Next up is The Mysterios vs. Logan Paul and The Miz.  They had a nice video package on Rey and Dominik.  I think it's pretty funny Mattel is making a "little kid" Dominik action figure by the way.  You can find more details from our friends RingsideCollectibles.com.  Nice attention to detail with Miz and Logan Paul having matching gear.  That's a smart way for Miz to get the pop culture rub from Paul.  Liked the Los Gringos Locos tribute fringe of the Mysterios.  There wasn't a better tag team than Art Barr and Eddy Guerrero in 1994.  Dominik got to show some nice highspots including a corkscrew dive to the floor before being cut off.  They obviously picked spots for Paul to make him look like a killer.   He hasn't looked out of place at all and had some really natural charisma that carried over well to the ring.  That over the shoulder powerslam looked great and Paul doing The Three Amigos to get heat to was pretty damn great.

It was smart to have Dominik take all the heat so Rey can get the big pop for the hot tag.  Logan nailing the Eddy Guerrero shimmy before hitting the frog splash was insane and they are lucky Dominik wasn't another second later in breaking it up.  The last minute was really great setting up Miz pinning Rey.  Obviously, this won't be the last we see of Logan Paul.

Of course, as soon as I wrote that, Miz attacked Paul and left him laying.  Did they just turn Miz?

Stephanie McMahon came out to thank everyone for coming to Wrestlemania.  She introduced Gable Stevson officially to WWE.  We had reported over the weekend there was a lot of talk he would be appearing at Mania.

We are told that Vince McMahon's mystery man (expected to be Cody Rhodes as the American Nightmare, music and all) vs. Seth Rollins will be next after the Raw Women's Championship.

Thoughts continue on Page 2!
