Mike Johnson: So let's talk about the origins of Los Lotharios. Because obviously you had many wars in WWE over the years.
Angel: Mm-hmm (affirmative).
Mike Johnson: At what point does the company come to you and say, "Hey, we have an idea"? Or is it something you guys pitch the company? Like where does it come from, where the light bulb goes off and goes, all right, better united then against each other?
Angel: So this has been my gimmick, since I was in NXT. I was doing the kiss thing and then doing the high five thing, taking the hand off. And then it became into the rose thing that I was doing during my running on Raw. And then, when we did the transition to SmackDown, that last part of Raw, they were like, "Hey, you guys look great together, and you are cousins." And oh, you just noticed that we are cousins? So, yeah, we pitched it before, we pitch this tag team before. And they said, "No, Humberto is completely baby-faced. You are completely here. There is no way for us to put you guys together." And then they came with idea like, "Okay, let's give you a try. We want to see you guys together. Let's see what you guys can bring to the table." And then after that, they were like, "Guys, you are gold. You guys look great. You are in good shape. You have a lot of good skills." And then, they adapt Humberto into the same gimmick that I had. I don't know why, if it's a thing, that Latino heat thing. They always trying to bring the Latino into the sexy mood. I mean, we know we are sexy guys..But I think it just come natural. It's that connection that we have in between ladies, Latinos. And yeah, that gimmick is just flowing natural.
Mike Johnson: There's just a grit to it.
Angel: Yeah. Yeah. And just commit. No matter what gimmick they give it to you, just commit to it, and it's going to work. Like when they came up with the idea of the kiss cam, they were like, "Hey guys, we want you guys to do the kiss cam." And we were like, "What's the kiss cam?" And they were like, "Okay, you are going to grab a lady from the front row. And both of you guys are going to kiss her." They were like, "Oh, that's great, because that's bringing more connection in between the audience and us" and that's the thing that's going to put us over with the crowd, that interaction. Because you know, when we pass this pandemic, having no crowd was rough. Doing wrestling without a crowd was tough. Doing some crazy moves, having no reaction, trust me, it was bad, it was sad. And right now that we have them back, it's like, "Okay, let's connect with them as much as we can."
Mike Johnson: Makes you appreciate it a whole lot more. Right?
Angel: Yeah. Sure, sure, sure, sure. Yeah.
Mike Johnson: So let me ask you this, for your entire WWE tenure, you were pretty much the baby face, and they had you smiling. Was it hard to wrap your head around adapting to the Los Lotharios, or did it kind of come... Like, was there a learning process, and sort of figuring it out?
Humberto: Yeah, no, not at all. It wasn't hard. I just learned a lot off of my cousin, because you know, he's been on the heel side. Also my uncle, he used to be a good heel. So I think it's on our veins. It's in our blood. And I think there's always a heel side in every baby face. And you know, I just got tired of losing as a baby face.
Mike Johnson: Can't imagine why!
Humberto: Yeah. I just got tired to got my ass kicked. And now, I'm the ass kicker. I like to be heel. And yeah, I like to be the ladies' man. It's a good thing.
Mike Johnson: Well, you guys get to kick off WrestleMania weekend. It's SmackDown: a big opportunity for you. I congratulate you for that. Because hard work finally pays off.
Angel: Appreciate, yeah.
Mike Johnson: Any final words, to all the fans out there, especially the fans in Latin America and Mexico, about enjoying WrestleMania and seeing you guys have this moment tonight on SmackDown?
Angel: To all the good fans: thank you for the support, you guys are in good hands. And for all the toxic fans that are out there: just take your bellies out of that seat, go and do some workout. Go and have some mental helpness. So go and do something, and then come and see wrestling. Go and drop all that toxicness that-
Humberto: Yeah, man like, you have the chance to came to WrestleMania, enjoy the show, enjoy the moment. It's a unique, unique event, and it's going to be awesome. And yeah, stop being toxic on social media. Don't do cyber bullying, because it's not for everyone.
Angel: And one day, you're going to be as pretty as us.
Humberto: Yeah, one day, probably.
