By Mike Johnson on 2022-01-08 19:30:00

Gia Miller interviewed Deonna Purrazzo and Matt Rehwoldt backstage.  She said tonight, Mickie hanging onto her to be relevant ends tonight.  She said she has a Plan A and a Plan B.  Gail Kim says their no contact clause ends tonight when the bell ring.  Kim tells Matt if he touches Mickie tonight, he's fired and Deonna loses.  IN A TEXAS DEATH MATCH??  Deonna loses it and says that Mickie may be walking in tonight but she's not walking into the Royal Rumble.

X-Division Champion Trey Miguel vs. Steve Maclin - If Maclin loses, he doesn't get another shot at Miguel

They had two guys dressed like The Rascalz to make it seem like Miguel came out with them.   That was clever.

Maclin jumped him as he made his way to the ring.  Maclin worked him over up the ring entrance.  Miguel came back with a dive into a tornado DDT on the floor.  The bell has not officially started.

Trey tossed him in and they officially began, finally.  Maclin cut him off in the corner and tied him to the tree of woe but Trey avoided a charge.  Miguel nailed a dive over the ring post to the floor, wiping out Maclin and landing in the first row.  That looked cool.  Miguel was slammed on the ring apron and then shoved into the steel barricade.   Miguel tried to fire back with a kick but was caught and slammed again in the barricade.

Back in the ring, Maclin broke down Miguel with an over the knee backbreaker.    Maclin worked over the champion for a long time.  The crowd chanted, "Let's go Trey."  Maclin nailed a big uranage for a two count.   Maclin worked over Miguel's lower back and drilled him with a big backbreaker for another two count.    They battled to the floor.  Maclin nailed the Cactus Jack elbow off the apron to the floor.  He slammed Miguel on the corner of the apron.

After some time, Miguel catches Maclin with a head scissors takedown and a double stomp for a two count.  Maclin cut him off while Trey was going for a handspring off the ropes and began destroying him with elbows to the side of the head.  Miguel fought back with several big moves including a Scorpion Kick but Miguel couldn't score the three count.

Miguel went for the Meteroa.  Maclin tired to nail him on the top but Miguel jumped down to the apron.  They fired back and forth on the outside with strikes and knees.  Maclin went down from a rough knee strike. Maclin was hit with a Meteora that sent him off the apron to the floor.  They said his head hit the ring barrier, which certainly looked to be the case.  Maclin was tossed back in the ring.  Miguel nailed a top rope Meteora but Maclin kicked out at the last second.  Trey was shocked.  The crowd chanted, "This is awesome."  It is indeed a hell of a bout.  Miguel worked him over and nailed a second one, then scored the pin.

Your winner and still X-Division Champion Trey Miguel!

DAMN hard hitting bout.

Backstage, The Influence was upset the IInspiration didn't show up to work, ignoring the COVID-19 thing.  Tenille mocked the idea that they were unprofessional for not showing up when the story was Tenille disappeared for a month to do a photo shoot.  They said the match will take place in Fort Lauderdale next month.

Ian Riccaboni joined the announcing team for the ROH Championship.

ROH Champion Jonathan Gresham vs. Chris Sabin

Bobby Cruise announced they are holding the bout under Pure Wrestling Rules.  That was a nice surprise!

Some really nice grappling as you might imagine early on.  They faced off and shook hands.  He worked over Sabin's leg but was taken down for a two count.  Gresham caught him with several hiptosses and takedowns, then worked over Sabin's arm.  Gresham tied up Sabin on the mat, focusing on the ankle, then transitioned into a pinfall attempt.

Gresham kept going after the arm, trying to wear Sabin down.  Gresham nailed a rana but Sabin rolled through for a two count.  Sabin nailed a DDT for a close two count.  Sabin attempted Cradleshock but Gresham went after the beaten down arm.  Sabin's arm was worked over.  Sabin caught him with a hanging neckbreaker.  Gresham used his foot across the rope to break the pinfall.

Gresham has 2 rope breaks left.

Gresham came back with a Dragon Screw Legwhip.  This has been nothing short of excellent from a technical finesse standpoint thus far.  Gresham nailed several elbows to the face and covered Sabin for a two count.  Gresham locked on a crossface.  Sabin went for the ropes but Gresham pulled his arm back to make the move harder.    Sabin finally grabs the ropes.

Sabin has 2 rope breaks left.

Gresham locked him in the crossface again.  Sabin turned it into a pinfall attempt for a two count.  Gresham locked him into an Octopus.  He nailed a series of strikes.  Sabin turned it into a Cradleshock and pinned Gresham but Gresham had his foot under the ropes at the very last second.  The crowd didn't like that.

Gresham has 1 rope break left.

They fired back and forth with strikes while on their knees.  They fought to their feet, exchanging chops to the point of exhaustion.  They fired up and drilled each other with kicks to the head and both went down.  They went back and forth with some nice near falls.  Gresham caught Sabin with the Backlund Bridge for the pin.

Your winner and still ROH Champion, Jonathan Gresham!

The crowd chanted for ROH after.

An absolutely great, hard hitting back and forth match that started with great scientific grappling that got more and more aggressive as they went on.

They shook hands after the bout.

Ian Riccaboni thanked Impact for keeping the ROH flame alive and said they hope to return in April.

Tasha Steelz was interviewed backstage.  She said she invented history and is now the history maker.  No matter who wins the Texas Death Match, they have a date on the wrong side of the street with her.

Jonah vs. Josh Alexander

They began slugging it out with Alexander getting the early flurry of offense in the corner.  Jonah smashed him down but missed a back senton splash.  Alexander went for the anklelock but was kicked out of the ring to the floor.  Jonah stalked him on the floor, nailing some hard chops.  He tossed Alexander back into the ring but was caught and drilled in the ropes, trapping his leg in the process.

Alexander began stomping away at the leg.  They had some audio issues as the sound was skipping a bit.  Alexander drilled him to the floor with a cross body to the back and nailed a series of chops.   Jonah made a comeback and began mauling Alexander but he kept kicking out.  Jonah lifted him over his shoulder with a Bruno Sammartino style backbreaker.  Alexander drilled him across the nose for a two count.  Jonah beat down his back but Alexander fired back with chops.    Jonah smashed him down and dared Josh to keep coming.  Josh challenged him to hit him and Jonah did, knocking him down.

Alexander, on the mat, kicked Jonah in the bad ankle.  He tried to clothesline Jonah over the top, finally making it happen.  Jonah and Alexander battled into the crowd.  Jonah clotheslined Alexander over the guard rail into the ringside area.  Alexander recovered with a big right to the face.  Josh hit a big bodypress off the top onto Jonah in the crowd.  The crowd chanted, "Holy sh**!"

They returned to the ring, where Alexander went for the C4 Spike but couldn't get him up.  Alexander nailed a running knee for a two count.  Alexander went to the top for a moonsault but he was crotched on the ropes.  Jonah climbed the ropes.  Alexander peppered him with forearms.  Jonah overpowered him and nailed a BIG superplex into the ring below.  They recovered and beat the crap out of each other with hard palm strikes, headbutts and slaps.  It was glorious.

Jonah snatched him up with a powerbomb for a two count then killed Alexander with a lariat that turned him inside out for another two count.   Alexander ate a brainbuster but kicked up.  Alexander was bleeding from the head.  Jonah went to the top to hit the big splash but Alexander recovered and locked the anklelock on him while he was on the ropes.  The referee counted so Alexander let go.  Jonah headbutt him down.  He went for a moonsault but missed.  Alexander exploded with a series of offensive maneuvers then powerbombed Jonah for another close two count.

Jonah was trapped in the anklelock in the center of the ring.  Jonah was worried but rolled through.  Alexander stomped the hell out of him and locked the anklelock back on again.  Jonah tried to fight to the ropes but Josh locked it in deeper, scissoring his legs.  Trapped, Jonah tapped.

Your winner, Josh Alexander!

Another damn entertaining match.  This was better than anything Jonah was able to do while performing as Bronson Reed in WWE NXT.  Just great, great intensity and physicality, like a match you'd expect in All Japan's glory days with some modern day highspots peppered in.

Gia Miller interviewed Team Edddie Edwards.  Eddie said it's time for Hardcore War.  Swann said it's hard to kill and they are ready to get hardcore.  Willie Mack said they are in Dallas and there's no more running for anyone else.  Rhino promised he was going to get through everyone and take Eric Young out.  He promised to choke Young with his own intestines.  He promised to make Young bleed tonight.
