By Mike Johnson on 2021-09-05 19:00:00

CM Punk vs. Darby Allin with Sting.

Sting came out with Darby but didn't go to the ring.

MASSIVE pop for Punk, who had his Larry hoodie on and new, longer tights.  The crowd was all about chanting for Punk, as they should be.

They locked up and Darby caught Punk with an armdrag.  Punk was sent into the ropes but ran Darby down with a shoulderblock.  The crowd chanted Welcome back at Punk.  Darby grabbed a hammerlock and controlled Punk for some time.  The crowd was split chanting back and forth for each competitor.

Punk finally escaped and caught him with a back elbow and a slam.  He cinched in a chinlock.  Darby escaped and battled Punk but almost got caught on Punk’s shoulders.  He scampered away from a potential GTS.  The crowd chanted, “You still got it” at Punk.

Punk went to hiptoss Darby who used the ropes to reverse.  He nailed the Coffin Splash in the corner and Punk crashed to the mat.  Punk reversed a whip into the corner and Darby crashed sideways through the buckles and into the ring post.  EVIL.  Punk tossed him back into the ring for a two count.

Punk began focusing on Punk’s back.  Punk nailed a back suplex.  Punk cinched in a sitting surfboard submission.  Darby fought his way out but was drilled with a knee to the mid-section as he rebounded off the ropes.  Punk locked on an abdominal stretch.  Darby fought his way out but Punk snatched him as he rebounded into a tiltowhirl backbreaker.

Punk went back to the abdominal stretch but Darby fought out and drilled Punk with a stunner.  Darby slapped Punk and they fired back and forth with palm strikes.  Darby dove off the ropes with a coffin splash and rolled him up for a two count.  Darby scored several near falls with pinfall combinations.  He nearly scored a three count with a Code Red.

Punk called for the GTS.  The crowd chanted Go To Sleep but Darby was out on his feet.  He picked him up but Darby drilled him with elbows to his face and neck.  Punk dropped to his knees and the mat.  The crowd booed that.  Darby hit a killer dive on Punk on the floor, sending him into the barricade.  Darby nailed a senton to the floor.

Darby went for the Coffin Drop but Punk sat up.  Darby scored a two count.  Punk went for the GTS but Darby turned it into the Last Supper for a two count.  Punk cut him off with a leg lariat.   Darby kicked off a charge in the corner.  Punk finally caught him with a GTS and scored the pin.

Your winner, CM Punk!

Punk held up 7 fingers for seven years.

Sting came to the ring and checked on Darby.   Punk stayed in the ring.  Sting offered him is hand.   Punk took it to a big pop.   Punk checked on Darby.  The crowd chanted loudly for Allin.  Punk offered his hand when Allin got to his feet and Darby took it.  The crowd popped.

Punk looked to the audience and said, "I'm back motherf***ers."  Yes he is.

A damn fun match.  Punk looked like he didn't have any ring rust at all and Darby fought his heart out before losing.  This was a lot of fun as everything meant something and the slower pace made Darby's offense mean a lot.  A great entrance back into the ring for Punk.

Paul Wight vs. QT Marshall.

Wight tossed Marshall’s guys over the top.

QT attacked Wight and worked him over, including a dropkick to the knee.  Marshall covered Wight but when he kicked up, QT was sent out of the ring to the floor.  He returned to the ring and went for a diamond cutter but Wight had it scouted.

Wight backdropped QT and called for the chokeslam.  QT ran for the floor.  Wight grabbed Aaron Solow and chopped him hard.  He nailed Nick Comorato with a shoulderblock.  QT went to the top but was grabbed and chokeslammed.

Your winner, Paul Wight!

Exactly what it should have been.

They announced Moxley vs. Suzuki for this Wednesday in Cincy as well as Ruby Soho's debut appearance on Dynamite.

Malakai Black cut a promo, saying he wanted Dustin Rhodes to be as angry as he can, because it means he will slip up.  When he does, he'll be in the ring wit Malakai.  He said that for all the reasons Dustin is upset, he should think about how he left his brother Cody lifeless and that Cody still hasn't returned.  He wants Dustin to think about that and that it's time to pay the boatman's toll.

They plugged Andrade vs. Pac for this Friday.

AEW Champion Kenny Omega vs. Christian Cage.

Omega went right after Cage, who responded in kind.  They exchanged punches and ended up on the floor, where Cage chopped away at Omega.  Cage went to the top and dove off onto Omega on the floor.  Omega gained control and pulled a table out from under the ring, placed it on Cage and nailed a double stomp on Cage.  Callis was distracting the referee as all that was happening.

Omega and Callis set up another table on the floor in front of referee Paul Turner.  Omega tried to suplex Cage onto the table but Cage reversed it and suplexed the champ on the floor.  Omega regained control when they made it back to the ring, cinching in a chinlock and then working him over with chops in the corner.  Cage kicked out of several near falls and attempted to kick Omega off.  Omega placed him on the top and knocked him off with Cage crashing down to the floor.

Omega nailed a moonsault off the barricade onto Cage, but not before cracking up as he slipped on the first attempt.  Back in the ring, Omega nailed a suplex into a kneestrike for a two count.  They battled back and forth with punches and strikes.  Omega got the better of the exchange, punching Cage down to one knee.  Cage fought back and rained down with punches.  Omega tried to snap him into the one-winged angel but Cage escaped and continued the assault, then used the ropes to wear down Omega.

Cage went for a Texas Cloverleaf but Omega fought his way out.  Cage caught him with an inverted DDT for a two count.  Cage charged but was drilled with a knee strike.  Omega went for a powerbomb but Christian landed on his feet.  They slugged it out in the corner.  Cage nailed a tornado DDT out of the corner for another two count.

Omega nailed several snap dragon suplexes.  He mocked Cage, who flipped him the bird.  He nailed another snap dragon suplex, then a V-Trigger.  Cage rolled to the apron.  Omega grabbed him and attempted to nail a German suplex off the apron to the table below.   Cage fought out of it and then an attempted snap dragon.  Cage tried to nail a Killswitch on the apron but was shoved into the ring post.  Omega went for a one-winged angel through the table for Cage escaped and speared Omega off the apron through the table.

They battled back and forth until Omega nailed a ripcord V-Trigger.  Cage backdropped him and went for the Texas Cloverleaf.  He locked it on.  Don Callis called for help.  Gallows and Anderson hit the ring as Callis distracted the referee.  Gallows held Cage but Omega nailed him accidentally with a V-Trigger.  Cage nailed the Killswitch on Omega, who kicked out at the last second.

Callis tried to sneak up on Cage, who saw him comign and Callis ran off.  Cage went for a Killswitch off the ropes but Omega raked his face and nailed the One-Winged Angel off the top for the pin.

Your winner and still AEW Champion Kenny Omega!

Another really damn well worked match.

The Young Bucks came to the ring, hurting, to celebrate with Omega.  Callis, Gallows and Anderson joined them in the ring.

They all beat down Cage.

The Jurassic Express hit the ring but was overwhelmed.

Omega took the mic and asked Chicago if they were finally starting to understand.  He doesn't care if they have best in the world hometown heroes, no one is at his level.  When it comes to the AEW belt, the only people who would ever have a chance to beat him are already retired, are already dead or they aren't here.  The lights went out and Adam Cole came out.

Cole came to the ring and faced off with The Elite.  The crowd chanted, "Holy sh**" Cole then superkicked Jungle Boy and reunited with his former friends in The Elite.

Omega said they really thought he was scared.  He handed the mic to Adam Cole, who said it was Story Time.  The Elite is the most dominant stable in the business and there's no chance anyone is going to stop them.  Omega was signing the show off when out came Bryan Danielson.  He came to the ring and lined up with Cage and the other babyfaces.

Omega ran from the ring, leaving The Elite to brawl with Danielson and is new friends.  Bryan whipped out suplexes and nailed his running knee on Nick Jackson.

The crowd chanted for AEW as the show went off the air.

If there was ever such a thing as a perfect storm show, this was it.  This felt like the promotion was on the cusp of something special.
