RUSH VS. BANDIDO FOR ROH TITLE & MORE: COMPLETE RING OF HONOR BEST IN THE WORLD PPV COVERAGE

By Mike Johnson on 2021-07-11 18:34:00

ROH BEST IN THE WORLD

The Briscoes vs. PJ Black & Brian Johnson.

Johnson cut a promo saying it's been 16 months since the fans were packed in and unfortunately, it had to be this rat-infested hole in Baltimore.  He said everyone else was sitting at home getting fatter while he was getting better.  They are going for tag team gold.  He said the only people who suck more than than the fans and an old relic like Cary Silkin are The Briscoes.  He said he knows the entire family is here and you can tell where they are because they are kissing cousins.  He called Mama Briscoe an old hag and said they were going to give Mark and Jay the beating their father should have many years ago.  Johnson cut a hell of a promo.

They all started brawling.  Jay beat Johnson on the floor.  He nailed Johnson with a back suplex on the guard rail.  Mark and Black brawled to the floor as the others fought into the ring.  Mark set up a chair and nailed  a flip off it to the floor, taking down Johnson.  Johnson was deposited back into the ring.  Mark began drilling him with chops and sent him into the buckles.  Jay tagged in and nailed a big clothesline.  The beating of Johnson continued as a big Briscoes chant rang out.

Black made a blind tag and attacked Mark, nailing a number of kicks and strikes.  Given all his injuries over the years from BASE jumping and jumping out of planes, Black looked pretty damn good.  He and Johnson began tagging in and out, working over Mark.  Johnson nailed a big slam with authority.  Jay tagged in and Johnson didn't back down from him and they brawled in the center of the ring.  The announcers pushed it as a reason to respect Johnson.  Jay got the better of the exchange and nailed a hangman's neckbreaker.    The Briscoes went for the Redneck Boogie but Black broke it up.  Jay went to nail him but his Mark by accident.  Johnson rolled up Jay for a two count.

Jay and Mark regained the control and went for the Doomsday Device but Black shoved Mark off the top.  Brian rolled up Briscoe again but he kicked up.  Black and Johnson worked over Jay.  Black nailed a springboard 450 splash for a close two count.  Briscoe booked Black off the apron to the floor.  Mark nailed a Blockbuster off the apron to the floor.  He then nailed the Cactus Elbow off the apron to the floor on Johnson.  The crowd chanted for the Briscoes.

Jay went for a Jay-Driller on PJ Black and nailed it.  Mark nailed the Froggy Bow and scored the pin.

Your winners, The Briscoes!

Super good tag team bout.  They showed Johnson was every bit of the tough guy he claims to be.  Black looked damn great in his first PPV bout back from surgery.  They had a hot, competitive bout.

EC3 vs. Flip Gordon.

They described EC3 as a man who cheated death.  They shook hands.  EC3 took down Gordon with a tackle.  They locked up and Gordon was snatched in a standing side headlock.  Gordon backed him into the corner.  They broke clean and Gordon dared EC3 to come fight him.  Gordon grabbed a side headlock of his own.  EC3 reversed and took him down to the mat.  He went for a head scissor but Gordon slipped out.  EC3 shoulderblocked him down but Gordon popped right back up.  They battled back and forth with Gordon going after the leg.   He chopped him with authority across the chest, then hit the Ricky Steamboat-esque double chop.

EC3's knee was attacked but he fought back to his feet and nailed a hiptoss.  Gordon cut him off and went back after the knee, breaking it down and wrenching away at it.    He ripped away at it but EC3 kicked him with the other boot to force a break.  Gordon rebounded with a kick to the face and a standing moonsault for a near fall.  They battled back and forth with chops.  Gordon nailed an enziguri.  EC3 nailed a lariat and a Thesz Press, firing away with a series of punches.   EC3 nailed TKO into a knee strike.  Gordon rolled to the floor to prevent himself from being pinned. EC3 went to reach for him on the floor but Gordon snapped him in the ropes.

Gordon nailed a chop block to the back of the knee, then attacked it from the front.    Gordon cinched in a STF to try and force the submission.  EC3 made it to the ropes.  Gordon went to the ropes but Gordon was nailed by EC3.  EC3 nailed a series of forearms and went for a superplex, executing it.  EC3 slammed Gordon but his knee was hurting. He went for a DVDR but Gordon slipped off and rolled up EC3, then nailed a superkick.  Gordon superkicked EC3, who just smiled at him.  EC3 caught him with a butterfly facebuster and locked in The Purpose submission for the win.

Your winner, EC3!

A good match from a technical standpoint as they made all the grappling and attacks on EC3's knee mean something.  This was a much different performance than one would expect from Gordon and it worked in the context of the match.    Interesting to see them have Gordon lose given he has a ROH title shot next month.   They went to shake hands after the match but Gordon slapped EC3 across the face.  He repeated the feat.  EC3 offered his hand again but Gordon spit in his face and walked off.

ROH Six Man Tag Team Champions Shane Taylor & The Soldiers of Savagery with O'Shay Edwards vs. Dalton Castle & Dak Draper & Eli Isom

Eli and Moses Maddox start off.  Maddox looked strong.  Dalton tagged in and was backed into the corner but Moses broke clean.  Dalton tried to jawjack amnd this time backward Maddox into the corner.  Maddox battled his way out but Castle pulled the top rope down and Maddox went over to the floor.  Castle played to the crowd and showboated as his Boys all followed and cheered.

Shane Taylor tagged in and worked over Isom with a big spinebuster.   He and the SOS isolated Isom, tagging in and out.  Draper grabbed Kaun's leg as he rebounded off the ropes and tagged in.  He controlled Kaun with a series of kneedrops.  Castle tagged in and made a quick cover for a two count.  He whipped Kaun into the corner and nailed him with an exploder as he came back out of the corner.    Isom and Draper wanted him to score the pin but Dalton was showboating.  Isom nailed a nice suplex and went for another but Kaun battled out of it.  Isom caught him again with a suplex but Castle wanted in.  Draper was kicked into Isom, who was sent to the floor.

Moses drilled Draper and then hit a big flip dive off the apron, taking out Castle and Ison.  He got a big pop for that.  Back in the ring, Draper caught Moses and scored a two count with a powerbomb.  Taylor hit the ring and took out Draper with a package piledriver.  Isom nailed an enziguiri on Taylor.  He elevated him on his shoulders and drove him down to the mat.  Isom climbed to the top but Castle met him up there.  Castle tried to tell him what to do but Isom shoved him away.  That allowed Kaun to nail a Jackhammer off the top.  Moses took out Castle.  Taylor wrecked Dak and nailed his Greetings from Asbury Park variation for the pin.

Your winners and still ROH Tag Team Champions, Shane Taylor Promotions!

Man, the SOS looked so good here.  The story was that the challengers were never really on the same page but everyone worked hard in the ring so that this wasn't just a one-note story.  Some good stuff.

They ran a commercial for the ROH Honor Pals with the Briscoes' kids.  That was pretty funny.  We then went to the announcers playing with their Pals before realizing they were on camera.  That was cute, but not as funny.

Last Man Standing: Silas Young vs. Josh Woods.

Woods attacked Young as he made his way to the ring and sent him over and over into the barricades.  They brawled into the ring, where Young briefly gained control.  Woods went for a chair but Young intercepted him and smashed him in the chest and across the back with it.  Young pulled a table out from under the ring.  He slammed Woods into the barricades and began setting up the table on the floor.  Young stalked Woods with the chair.  He dropped it and nailed Woods with some rights and suplexed him on the floor.

Young sat on the chair and mocked Woods, then began putting the boots to him.  He placed a ladder leaning against the ring apron but Woods recovered and nailed him from behind.  Woods went to run him into the ring post but grabbed him and elevated him, then ran him into the ring post, groin first.  The referee began counting Young down as he tried to recover.  Woods pulled a table out from under the ring and slid it into the ring, which the crowd loved.  Woods dumped Young into the ring.

Back inside, Woods nailed a series of knees in the corner.  He nailed several knee strikes in the corner.  He went for another suplex but Young blocked it and charged, tackling Woods backwards into the table that had been positioned in the corner.  They fought to their feet and battled back and forth with punches and forearms.  Woods nailed a series of forearm strikes.   Woods was locked in the Gorilla Lock submission.  Young tapped and made it to the ropes but that wouldn't break the hold.  Young finally pulled himself to the floor, forcing Woods to release the hold.

Woods went under the ring for another table, which was weird since there was one right in front of him!  He placed it next to the first table.  Woods attempted a back suplex on the floor but was kicked low.  The referee began counting him down but Woods used a chair to get to a seated position.  Young charged but was caught and powerbombed onto the ladder outside.  The competitors crumpled to the floor, where the referee began counting them down down.  Woods tossed a number of chairs into the ring.

Young was tossed into the ring.  He caught Woods in the corner with a series of shoulderblocks to the mid-section.  He draped Woods in the ropes and nailed a big chairshot to the back.  Woods tried to fight back but ate a knee to the face and was suplexed onto the chairs.   Woods rolled to the outside to prevent being counted out but was grabbed by Young.  They slugged it out on the apron.  Young got the better of the exchange but Woods blocked a move and attempted a German suplex to the tables beneath them.  Young held on but was beaten across the back over and over until Woods nailed the German suplex and they both crashed through the tables.  The crowd chanted, "Holy sh**."

The referee counted them both down but Woods made it to his feet.  Young did not and was counted out.

Your winner, Josh Woods!

A solid brawl with a crazy spot to climax it and end things on a high note.  This felt like an ascending moment for Woods.
