FORMER IMPACT STAR WINS NAWA TITLE, SWINGER VS. BULLDOG JR., GANGREL, BULL JAMES & MORE: COMPLETE NAWA JINGLE BRAWL COVERAGE

By Mike Johnson on 2020-12-19 19:00:00

Johnny Swinger vs. Davey Boy Smith Jr.

Swinger did a lot of stalling and cheating early on, so Smith gave him a taste of his own medicine with a thumb to the throat.  Swinger played a lot to the crowd.  Smith locked on a standing side headlock.  Swinger tried to slip out but was tackled down and put back in the headlock.  He used a head scissor takedown but Smith kipped up and Swinger powdered right back to the floor.

Smith snatched his headband, which Swinger complained about.  Back in the ring, Smith nailed an atomic drop.  He teased stepping low but instead stomped the mid-section.  Smith drilled him and covered Swinger, who placed his foot on the rope.  Swinger drilled Smith but was unable to get him over for a suplex.  Smith reversed and held him up for a delayed vertical suplex.  Swinger kicked out at the last second and then grabbed the ropes to halt a second pinfall attempt.

Swinger began using a foreign object to choke Smith.  They did the old heel deal where the referee kept missing it.  Smith fired his way out with a series of elbows to the mid-section but was hit with a reverse elbow.  Swinger scored another two count.  Swinger maintained control for a long time.  He nailed a flying double axehandle off the ropes for a two count.

Smith began mounting a comeback and drilled Swinger with an inverted atomic drop, then a legsweep for a two count.  Smith nailed a legdrop and followed up with a second one.  Swinger went for a swinging neckbreaker but Smith pulled him into a running powerslam for the pin.

Your winner, Davey Boy Smith Jr.

Perfectly fine as a good vs. evil basic wrestling 101 bout.

They aired a promo from the Modern Day Sharpshooter plugging the 2/13 FITE.TV return.  They reminded me of Dunn and Marcos from early ROH.

Hercules Hernandez Cup Ceremony honoring the late Ray "Hercules Hernandez" Fernandez.

Dave Penzer introduced Hercules Hernandez's family, including his wife, children and grandchildren.  Hernandez was the NAWA Champion during the promotion's first incarnation in 1992.

Atlas took the mic and said he traveled a lot with Hercules and they often sat up all night talking and drinking beer, then got up at 7 AM to bench press 500 lbs.   He said Hernandez was a wonderful, wonderful friend.  He said meeting his family for the first time was a true honor.  Tony Capone said that Hercules was the first NAWA Champion.  Hernandez told him to be nice to the people on the way up because it would be the same people you see on the way down.  He thinks of Hernandez every day and wishes he could be there with them now.  They aired video of Hernandez from NAWA TV in 1992 interspersed with photos.    It was a nice video.

Capone introduced Hernandez's widow Debbie.  She said that Hercules loved the business even though it took him away from his family for many days.   She is thankful to have this moment to remember him by.  She thanked Capone for his words.   They presented her with a NAWA title belt in Hernandez's honor.    The family left.  It was weird that Paul Roma was said to be involved here and then he's not here to pay tribute to the guy who was his closest friend in the business.

Hercules Cup Battle Royal to crown NAWA Champion.

They are doing Royal Rumble entrances.

The first competitor is The Foreman, literally a foreman from a construction site.

The second is Beastman, who has wrestled a lot for Warrior Wrestling in Chicago.

The Foreman was tossed out.

Third man out was George North.  I'm done.  Beastman wiped him out and hit a big cannonball in the corner.  The four man out is a masked man named Lariato Man.  Beastman killed him too.  North was tossed South and Lariato quickly followed him.

Storm Thomas, who was billed as the NAWA Intercontinental champion has been found!  He is the fifth competitor.  He nailed several shots but was caught with a high cross bodyblock.  The sixth competitor was Alex Ocean. Seventh was James. St. Patrick.  He nailed several quebradas.  The 8th competitor, not even the announcers knew his name!  Beastman was finally clotheslined over the top.

Gary Reno, the Italian Sensation, was next.  The announcers said this was his first match back since beating cancer.    Next out was Brian Brock.  Then Panther Rodriguez, billed from The Bronx.  Reno was tossed by Brock.  Next out was The Bus.  That was his name, the Bus!    Danny Inferno was next.  Everyone battled.  Leon the Terrible was next.  Then Andre Holmes.

Out next was Chase Stevens.   More talents out.  Everyone brawling.  Mason Perks is next.  The Bus pressed and tossed someone to the floor and the person who caught him looked like he hit hard and didn't get up for a long time.  I hope he was selling  but referees were checking on him for a long, long time.

Next out was Bull James aka the former Bull Dempsey.  He hit the ring and began brawling all over.    Next out was someone named Miami Mike.    Vic Arson was next.  Bruce Woerhle was next.  Any relation to Dick Woerhle?  He was out pretty quick.  Dempsey started tossing out a few talents.  Everyone brawled.  Micah Taylor came out and distracted Inferno, leading to him being tossed.  The guy who was down outside is still being watched over.

The final four are Dempsey, Thomas, Stevens and Brian Brock.  Dempsey cleaned house, even fighting off a triple team but was eventually tossed.  Brock was eliminated by Thomas but Chase Stevens then tossed Thomas.

Your winner and new NAWA Champion, Chase Stevens!

This was too long for this late in the show in my opinion.

Post-Show Notes:  Tony Capone and Lou Reardon handled the booking.....There were a lot of talents who were not identified by name, so if we didn't catch them, I apologize.  There were a lot of younger Florida talents I've never seen before....Afa Jr. (former WWE star Manu) was advertised but did not appear....As noted, they are running The Dorton Arena on 2/13 in Raleigh, NC..There's talk Danny Inferno will be getting more involved behind the scenes...The talent who was KO'd catching the talent tossed out of the ring by The Bus is said to have suffered a concussion.  Although it wasn't shown on TV, we were told it was a scary scene at ringside until he regained consciousness.
