RUSH VS. BRODY KING, DRAGON LEE VS. TONY DEPPEN, BRISCOE & PCO VS. LETHAL & GRESHAM & MORE: RING OF HONOR FINAL BATTLE 2020 COVERAGE

By Mike Johnson on 2020-12-18 23:58:00

ROH TV Champion Dragon Lee with Amy Rose vs. Tony Deppen.

This was Lee's first match since February.  Rose joined Caprice and Ian on commentary.

Deppen came out holding his neck.

It was all Lee early on until Deppen kicked him to the floor and nailed a flip dive to the floor.  Deppen nailed a springboard missile dropkick for another two count.  Lee cut him off with a running dropkick in the corner and began stomping away at him in the corner.  Deppen was smashed with a hesitation dropkick in the corner and looked to be out on his feet.  Lee locked on a side chinlock, wearing down Deppen.

Deppen came alive with a series of strikes but Lee drove him down to the mat with a shot behind the ear.  Deppen nailed him with a big knee strike.  Lee nailed a German suplex.  Deppen nailed a Northern Light suplex, flipping backwards in the process.  They began battling back and forth with measured right hands, trying to take the other down.  They began peppering each other with forearms.  Lee charged but was tripped up and sent into the buckles.  Deppen leapt into the ring with an inverted codebreaker for a two count.

Lee went to the top but was nailed with a kick.  Deppen followed but was nailed down and caught in the ropes.  Lee nailed a double stomp off the ropes for a two count.  They battled on the top.  Deppen knocked Lee into the ring with a flipping neckbreaker and nailed a running knee strike for a two count.  Deppen went for a knee but Lee caught him and drove him under the jaw with a knee of his own.    Lee nailed a pump knee strike, a reverse rana and scored another knee strike for a close two count.

Lee nailed an inverted sit-down powerbomb for a two count.  Lee nailed a running powerbomb and scored the pin.

Your winner and still TV Champion, Dragon Lee!??????

In my opinion, this was the best wrestled match thus far on the show.  Really damn well wrestled match.

Jay Briscoe vs. Shane Taylor with the Soldiers of Savagery.

They battled back and forth on the floor.  Very physical back and forth slugfest.  They battled into the ring.  Taylor was caught in the corner and stomped away bu Briscoe.  Taylor battled back but was sent into the ropes and dropkicked.  Taylor came back with a big clothesline and followed up with a big right hand that sent Jay to the floor.   Taylor worked him over for a long time.  Briscoe came back with a DVDR.  Mark Briscoe came to the ring.   Jay made his way to the top but was crotched on the top rope.

Taylor went for Tower City but Briscoe grabbed him in a choke. Jay tried go for the Jay-Driller but couldn't muscle Taylor up.  Briscoe finally gave up and nailed a lariat and a neckbreaker for a two count.  Taylor came back with a big headbutt, a driver for a two count and Greetings from Asbury Park for the pin.

Your winner, Shane Taylor!

A really strong slugfest.  This was exactly what the show needed at this point, a toss everything out the window and go nose to nose and punch for punch.  Really damn good with the right person going over.  Briscoe is a made man here but Taylor could use the extra juice of a win after recently losing to Brody King.

Taylor told them it was one to one in their matches against the each other, setting up a rubber match.  Taylor said he was coming for the winner of the ROH title bout.
