COMPLETE KING OF INDIES 2015 NIGHT ONE COVERAGE: EIGHT MEN ADVANCE, A SPECIAL THREE WAY MAIN EVENT, AND MORE

By Stuart Carapola on 2015-03-28 01:40:56
First Round Match: Timothy Thatcher vs Dylan Drake

This is the last first round match, and Thatcher quickly takes Drake to the mat, controlling him with an armbar. Drake tries to go hold for hold with Thatcher but doesn't have much luck, so he slides out to the floor to try and regain his bearings. Thatcher tries to grab him from inside the ring, but Drake drags him out under the bottom rope and starts to attack Thatcher's legs. That doesn't last long as Thatcher fires back with hard European uppercuts, then ducks a chop from Drake that ends up crashing into the ringpost. Drake recovers well enough to go back to work on Thatcher's legs when they go back inside the ring, and he tries for a figure four, but Thatcher...well, it looked like he was going to do something painful but the stream goes out again. It comes back as Drake is kicking away at Thatcher's legs, then locks him up in an Indian deathlock. Thatcher gets out and they trade strikes in the middle of the ring until Thatcher connects with a stiff headbutt that knocks Drake into next week. Thatcher approaches Drake, but Drake catches him by surprise and rolls him into a half crab. Thatcher manages to escape again, so Drake sits Thatcher up top and hits a backbreaker on the top rope for 2. Drake gets Thatcher in the Sharpshooter and has him trapped right in the middle of the ring, but Thatcher fights for his life and makes it to the ropes. Thatcher fires off European uppercuts at Drake, and Drake goes for another legwhip, but Thatcher catches his arm coming in and rolls Drake into a cross armbreaker for the awesome submission win.

Winner: Timothy Thatcher

THAT was a hell of a finish to a great match! Awesome way to wrap up the first round.

It's...MAIN EVENT TIME!

Joey Ryan vs Matt Cross vs Ricochet

Bell rings and everyone goes at it, Cross and Ricochet get tossed to the floor and Ryan hits the first dive of the match, wiping both men out with a somersault dive. He brings Cross inside and covers for 2, then gives Ricochet a shot to knock him off the apron before turning his attention back to Cross. Cross sweeps Ryan's legs and hits a standing moonsault for 2, then Ricochet comes in and does a back and forth with Cross. Cross takes both Ricochet and Ryan out with cartwheel elbows, but Ryan pops back in and spears Cross, then attacks Ricochet as well. Ryan is putting the boots to both men, but winds up on the receiving end of a double hiptoss and double dropkick and rolls back out to the floor. Cross kicks Ricochet in the ding ding, so Ricochet takes it out by hitting Ryan with a dive to the floor. Cross takes Ricochet down and hits a double stomp to the back, hits a dive of his own to Ryan on the floor, and comes back in to cover Ricochet for 2. Ricochet with a spinning Blue Thunder driver for 2 on Cross, then Ryan comes in and dumps Cross so he can focus on Ricochet. Ricochet hits a German suplex on Ryan, but has to lay there twice as long as Ryan does to give Cross time to get to the top rope and hit a shooting star press for 2. Ryan with a spinebuster to Cross for 2, the stream drops out for a bit, and it comes back in the "everyone hits big moves on everyone else" segment that ends with all three guys down and getting applause. The stream drops again briefly, and comes back with everyone hitting another flurry of moves, and Ricochet hits a Michinoku Driver on Cross for the win.

Winner: Ricochet

Fun match to finish it off, and the entire show was a lot of fun to watch. There are a lot of guys I'd never seen before but really enjoyed, especially Jeff Cobb and Jody Kristofferson, and that's really the point of a show like this. Thumbs up, and I'll be back tomorrow to cover the second half of the tournament.

Thanks for reading PWInsider.com's coverage of night one of the 2015 King of Indies Tournament! I'm hitting the hay after this marathon, nearly eight hour recapping marathon I did tonight, but I'll be back tomorrow for the WWN Supershow and the second night of King of Indies!
