COMPLETE AEW x NJPW FORBIDDEN DOOR BLOG

By Cory Strode on 2022-06-26 19:25:00

It is Sunday and AEW is at the United Center in Chicago IL.

We start with the Buy In for AEW and NJPW’s Forbidden Door Pay Per View. The commentary team to start off is Excalibur, Taz and Kevin Kelly and they run down the card to get started. We have both AEW and NJPW ring announcers.

QT Marshall and Aaron Solo vs Yoshi Hashi and Hiroki Goto

Hashi and Solo start and work headlocks and strikes. Solo gets a drop kick and Hashi gets a shoulder block to even things up. Marshall tags in as does Goto, and the crowd boos Marshall loudly. This is going to be a meat and potatoes match, and they have had Marshall and The Factory show up on NJPW Strong over the last few weeks to build for this. Solo and Marshall try to double team Goto, but he is able to stop their attack and then Goto and Hashi double team Marshall.

Marshall executes a barely passable leap over the top onto Goto and they roll him back into the ring so that he can take the beat down from Marshall and Solo to build heat. Goto hits Marshall with a big time lariat for Hashi to tag in and beat Marshall down. Hashi has his turn to take the attacks from Marshall and Solo. Hashi hangs on for Goto to join him in the ring. They take out Marshall and then hit and assisted elbow slam on Solo for the pin.

Winners: Yoshi Hashi and Hiroki Goto

We then get a video package for the four way match for the NJPW Heavyweight Championship.

Yep.

Nick Comorado vs Lance Archer

Archer is considered a NJPW wrestler since he is in Suzuki Gun and will be taking part in the G1 Climax Tournament.

Archer cannonballs into the ring into Comorado and then starts beating him down with haymakers. When they go outside the ring, Archer’s head goes into the barricade and Comorado takes over outside, drives him into the ring and after a two count, starts shouting at him. Archer piefaces him but doesn't follow up.

Comorado is overpowering Archer, and it is a bit baffling, since he’s been on the losing end every time he leaves Dark. I also don’t understand that, since Comorado is a huge guy who LOOKS like an old should monster. Archer turns it around with a series of clotheslines. He walks the ropes and moonsaults off of the ropes into Comorado for a two count.

Archer isn’t able to get the Black Hole Slam yet, and Comorado is able to get a body slam on Archer. Comorado goes to the top and Archer gets in a series of knee strikes and then hits the Black Hole Slam for the pin.

Winner: Lance Archer

A Hoss fight, and it makes Archer look like a beast going into the G1.

We then get a video package for Will Ospreay and Orange Cassidy. THEY SHOULD HAVE HAD THESE ON DYNAMITE. Geez.

We get a short interview with Clark Conners, and he doesn’t snap his fingers to tell us about cleaning products. Instead, he works in his catch phrases and does an OK job. He’s a up and comer in NJPW Strong.

El Desperado and Yoshinobu Kanemaru vs Swerve Strickland and Keith Lee

Kanemaru and Lee start off and Kaqnemaro start by bumping into Lee showing he’s not scared. When Lee calls for the tret of strength, Kanemaru goes to the second turnbuckle to meet him. He then leaps at Lee and tries to attack with speed. Does not do much. Swerve and Desperado tag in and they run the ropes, with Desperado going to a submission early. His submission is to drape the leg over his shoulder and torquing it.

As Swerve goes to attack Desperado dodges and Swerve hits Lee’s knee, and allows Desperado and then Kanemaru to do so as well.

Kevin Kelly is doing a fantastic job of filling us in on the NJPW stories and characters so that we know who they are and why we should care. Excalibur is doing play by play and Taz is, as always, Taz.

Swerve is finally able to tag in and and and Desperado go back to the high flying fast paced style. Eventually Kanemaru tags in and they double team Swerve as Lee is still recovering on the floor. When Lee does finally get onto the apron, and when he tags in, Kanemaru goes after Lee’s knee. They have all four men in the ring, and Lee tosses Desperado into Kanemaru who had him in a figure four. Lee lifts Kanemaru for a double team spirit bomb, but Desperado knocks Swerve off the top.

Kanemaru is abel to spit whiskey in Lee’s eyes, but Swerve is able to work on Desperado until Lee recovers and body slams Kanemaru and covers for the pin.

Winners Swerve Strickland and Keith Lee

Team Taz is in a skybox and call out Lee and Swerve making a whole bunch of basketball references.

Ass Boys (Billy, Colten, & Austin Gunn) & Max Caster vs NJPW Dojo team of The DKC, Kevin Knight, Alex Coughlin & Yuya Uemura

Danhausen interrupts with a gift: The Ass Boys own theme song. They run to the back leaving the match.

Alex tosses Billy to the floor and them slams Caster for a two count. Knight then works over Caster. Yuya tags in and they double team Caster as Bill gets back on the apron. Caster tries to fight out fo the corner, but they keep him in the NJPW corner with quick tags. Caster is finally able to tag in Billy after a back body drop, so we get to see the Billy is still strong and huge. Billy hits a famouser and then Caster hits the mic drop on DKC.

Winners: Ass Boys (Billy, Colten, & Austin Gunn) & Max Caster

This crowd sees Max and the Ass Boys as baby faces, and the match was paint by the numbers.

We then get a video package for Jon Moxley and Hiroshi Tanahaski.

AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door

Eddie Kingston, Shota Umino & Wheeler Yuta vs. Chris Jericho, Minoru Suzuki & Sammy Guevara

Any time Suzuki is in the ring, I expect a brutally stiff match. I also expect I will enjoy the match, because he rarely allows a match not to be exciting. I also love the feud between Kingston and Jericho.

Sammy and Yuta start out and Jericho tags himself in before they hook up. Jericho slaps Yuta and Yuta respond by slapping the hell out of him and then a series of German suplexes. The crowd goes nuts for this. After Yuta gets a two count it becomes an all out brawl outside the ring.

When they return to the ring, Yuta and Guevara are fighting. They run the ropes a trade off near falls. Umino tags in and he also runs the ropes and takes down Guevara. Guevara hits thumbs to the eyes and tags in Jericho. They trade chops and blows until Umino beats Jericho down in the corner.

Then, Kingston is tagged in and Jericho tags in Suzuki. Kingston motions him over and they trade chops. Kingston works him to the corner and his machine gun chops do nothing, and Suzuki drops him. He takes Kingston to his corner and Jericho tags in and after Jericho gets in a few blows, Kingston recovers and beats down Jericho. Suzuki is able to lock on the arm bar in the ropes on Kingston, and Jericho comes over to take over and beat down Kingston.

Suzuki is tagged in and keeps up the attack. When he puts on a submission hold, Jericho’s team is able to come in to put similar holds on Kingston’s team. Guevara tags in and goes for a leap onto Kingston, and Kingston grabs him and hits and exploder. He is able to tag in Umino who cleans house. Umino ends the sequence with a Fisherman’s suplex for a two count, broken up by Jericho. It’s now time for leaps from everyone, including Kingston. Suzuki teases a leap and instead he draws in Umino and drops him.

As he recovers we get a lot of action between everyone and when in calms down, Kingston has a submission on Guevara, and they everyone is able to get a massive move until all six men are down.

Kingston is able to recover enough to tag in Umino. Jericho is tagged in and they trade hold back and forth until they are fighting on the top. Umino hits an avalanche power bomb for a two count broken up by Jericho's team. Jericho goes for the lionsault, but Eddie pops him from outside the ring and Umino covers for a two count. Umino gets hit in the back with a bat by Guevara as he is running the ropes, and he is able to fight on and gets a brain buster for a two count. He locks on a Boston Crab and keeps it on as Guevara kicks him twice.

Suzuki is able to break it up with a head butt, and the Suzuki gets a Gotch style pile driver on Kingston as well. Umino recovers and starts to fight back, but Jericho hits a Judas Effect and covers Umino for the pin.

Winners: Chris Jericho, Minoru Suzuki & Sammy Guevara

  • Another bullet point match because these multi-man matches are nuts.

  • I haven't had time to eat any of my pizza for tonight, but I am only running about 5 minutes behind, with the pace they are going, it a miracle. I am wondering how Anthony is holding up.

  • Also, I am the NJPW fanboy here, and this is a show for fans. Kevin does as good a job as can be expected with introducing people, but if you aren’t familiar with everyone, it is just matches.
