ROMAN VS. BROCK, KING & QUEEN ARE CROWNED AND MORE: COMPLETE WWE CROWN JEWEL 2021 COVERAGE

By Mike Johnson on 2021-10-21 11:00:00

Welcome to PWInsider.com's live, ongoing coverage of WWE's Crown Jewel 2021 from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

A personal note:  I’m asking everyone reading this coverage to consider joining me today in donating to Vibrant Emotional Health, formerly known as the Mental Health Association of New York City.  This past April, in the middle of one of the worst days of my life, I learned that the first friend I ever had, dating back to when we were 6 years old, had passed away, taking his own life.   To say that news was heartbreaking would be a massive understatement.  His family asked for donations to VEH as a way to honor him.  VEH have, for over 50 years, promoted and supported the emotional and mental health of those in NYC.  I am asking that anyone who is able to do so please help me today in honoring my friend Roney Leroy and donate in his name.  For more on what Vibrant Emotional Health does or to make a donation, as I have, visit www.vibrant.org.  Either way, thank you for indulging me and enjoy our WWE Crown Jewel coverage.

KICKOFF SHOW

Kayla Braxton, Peter Rosenberg and Matt Camp are the lucky WWE employees of the day as they are in studio from Stamford, CT discussing the PPV.  They ran down the lineup for the show.  They showed footage of fans entering the stadium.  There have been numerous mentions that they are in Saudi Arabia, which they greatly downplayed in 2019.

They announced Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar is now a No DQ match.

Bobby Lashley vs. Bill Goldberg is now a Falls Count Anywhere No Holds Barred match.

They went to a video package on Drew McIntyre vs. Big E for the WWE Championship.

They began breaking down the King of the Ring and Queen's Crown Tournament finals.

They went to a video package on Goldberg vs. Lashley.

They just announced Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns have had "no interest" in the No DQ stipulation for their match, so that is now off the table.  Yeah, that's a weird one.  Why even announce it?

They went to a video package on Roman vs. Brock.

They showed Paul Heyman walking backstage.  Kevin Patrick asked Heyman for a word.  Heyman freaked out, claiming not to know who he is.  He wouldn't give any real comment on being trapped between Roman and Brock.  He told Patrick he hoped he would be fired really soon.  He said he would walk to the ring with Roman Reigns and walk to the back with the reigning, defending Universal Heavyweight Champion.

Michael Cole, Corey Graves and Byron Saxton are the announce team.

WWE Smackdown Tag Team Champions The Usos vs. Cedric Alexander & Shelton Benjamin

Big chant for the Usos at the bell.  Cedric and Jey started out.  Jey took him down and played to the crowd.  He nailed a sideslam on Cedric for a two count.  Cedric smashed him with a forearm and tagged out to Shelton, who continued working him over.  Benjamin stomped away on Jey.  They nailed a double-team maneuver with Shelton sending Jey into a Cedric knee to the face for another two count.

Alexander nailed an exploder for another two count.  Benjamin tagged in and nailed a shoulder breaker and kept working over Uso.  He locked in an armbar, continuing to control Jey Uso.  Benjamin peppered Uso in the corner with forearms.  Benjamin set him up for a superplex but Usos battled out.  Uso tried to make a tag but was caught with a spinebuster for a two count by Shelton.

Cedric tagged back in and cinched in a one-legged Boston Crab.  He released the submission and stomped on Uso's shoulder.  The Hurt Business tagged in and out, keeping the momentum on their side.  Uso finally made the hot tag with Jimmy clobbering Cedric with a big lariat.  He nailed a modified Samoan Drop, driving Cedric down on his shoulder for a two count.  He nailed a hip attack in the corner but Alexander kicked out again.  Alexander's timing in the ring is always awesome.

Benjamin and Cedric went to double-team Jimmy but Jey grabbed Shelton's leg.  Shelton nailed an Angle Slam on Jimmy but Jey dove in to break up the pinfall.   The Usos began unloading with superkicks.  Benjamin cut off Jimmy with Paydirt but Usos kicked up at the last second.  Benjamin went for a powerbomb but Uso escaped and the Usos began wiping everyone out with superkicks.  Uso nailed a Superfly splash on Cedric and scored the pin.

Your winners, The Usos!

A good back and forth competitive match with four good talents.

They ran a video package on the Hell in A Cell PPV.

WWE Crown Jewel 2021

Lots of pyro, as in way more in the first minute than the entirety of Summerslam.

The opening video package said they were coming from a place that brings out the best in everyone.

Hell in A Cell: Edge vs. Seth Rollins

When Edge came out, the camera showed three camels in full view, right next to the stage.  Then, they blew up a ton of pyro.  That was so weird and unfair to me.  Poor camels.

Jessica Carr was the referee.  They had her wearing a long sleeved shirt.

It was all Edge early on until Rollins nailed a flying knee lift.  Edge was sent to the floor into the cage but sidestepped Rollins doing a plancha.  Rollins crashed into the cage.  Edge worked over Rollins and pulled several chairs out from under the ring.  He nailed a DDT for a two count.  Edge broke a bar off the chair and tried to use as crossface.  Rollins broke free and tried to drive it into Edge's face.  They battled to the floor, where Rollins sent Edge into the cage.

Edge came back to hit a sliding kick through the ropes, driving Edge into the cage.  Edge speared Rollins into the buckles.  Rollins used a chair on Edge, driving it across his back and side as Edge was prone on the mat.  He went for the kill shot, but Edge tripped his heel.  Edge locked on a crossface but Rollins grabbed the bar from the broken chair and stuck it into his face.  Rollins went back to the chair and used it.  He smashed Edge with the frog splash off the top for a two count.

Rollins pulled a table out from under the ring.  He returned and ripped at Edge's eye.  Rollins used the Unprettier for a two count.  He went to the top but was shoved off, crashing into the cell and bouncing off, crashing through the table he had set up earlier.  That was a cool spot.  They continued to battle with the ring steps' lower portion brought into the ring.   Edge nailed Rollins with the Edgeomatic on the steps.  Edge came off the top with a chair, driving it across Rollins' chest.  Edge covered him for a two count.

Rollins caught a charging Edge (at least in theory) with a superkick for a two count.  Rollins nailed a pedigree.  Rollins went for a spear but Edge caught him and nailed Rollins with a bucklebomb.  Edge speared him for a close two count.  Edge went to the outside and pulled out a table, then a ladder.  The ladder got a big pop.  Edge ran it into Rollins' face.

Edge went to whip Rollins into the ladder but it was reversed and he crashed and burned.  Rollins slammed the ladder down on Edge again, then began setting up a table.  Rollins set up a ladder in the corner but Edge got off the table and met him.  They battled atop the ladder before Edge went for a superplex.  Rollins fought and blocked it, going back after his injured eye.  Rollins hit a sunset flip powerbomb through the table.

Rollins began exploring for weapons under the ring and was shocked Edge made it to his feet.  Rollins nailed a series of superkicks and pulled a chain out from a bag that was under the ring.  He wrapped the chain around his boot.  Edge was superkicked with the chained foot.  Edge was placed over a chair.  Rollins told him this was how his fairy tale ends.  Rollins set up for the stomp as the crowd chanted for Edge.  As Rollins jumped for the boot, Edge crotched him with the chair.  That was a cool spot.

Edge made it back to his feet and kicked Rollins in the face.  He nailed another kick.  He grabbed the chain and wrapped it around his face, then used a wrench to lock in the crossface as an additional weapon.  As Rollins looked to be ready to tap, Edge released the hold and grabbed a chair.  He stomped Rollins onto a chair, using Rollins' finisher, and scored the pin.

Your winner, Edge!

An entertaining Cell bout and probably one of the best Edge performances since he returned.  He and Rollins really brought the fight to each other.

The crowd loved this.  Big Edge chant as he celebrated.   Tons of pyro.  Hope they moved those camels!
