ROMAN VS. BROCK, KING & QUEEN ARE CROWNED AND MORE: COMPLETE WWE CROWN JEWEL 2021 COVERAGE

By Mike Johnson on 2021-10-21 11:00:00

A personal note:  I’m asking everyone reading this coverage to consider joining me today in donating to Vibrant Emotional Health, formerly known as the Mental Health Association of New York City.  This past July, in the middle of one of the worst weeks of my life, I learned that the first friend I ever had, dating back to when we were 7 years old, had passed away, taking his own life.   To say that news was heartbreaking would be a massive understatement.  His family asked for donations to VEH as a way to honor him.  VEH have, for over 50 years, promoted and supported the emotional and mental health of those in NYC.  I am asking that anyone who is able to do so please help me today in honoring my friend Roney Leroy and donate in his name.  For more on what Vibrant Emotional Health does or to make a donation, as I have, visit www.vibrant.org.  Either way, thank you for indulging me and enjoy our WWE Crown Jewel coverage.

They aired a personality profile on Bianca Belair to preview her Raw brand debut.

Mansoor vs. Mustafa Ali

Massive pop for Mansoor.

Ali controlled Mansoor early but was caught with a victory roll with Mansoor releasing it and nailing a standing moonsault for a two count.  Mansoor and Ali locked up with Mansoor doing a standing switch before riding Ali to the mat.  Ali fought back but was caught with a series of chops in the corner.    Ali regained control and worked him over, scoring a close two count with a tornado DDT off the buckles.  Mansoor kept kicking out, despite Ali verbally abusing him.  The crowd was chanting for Ali.

They are telling a basic wrestling 101 veteran heel bullying the younger face and it's perfect for the live audience.  Mansoor finally makes a comeback with an inverted atomic drop and a spinebuster.  Mansoor worked over Ali with a series of right hands in the corner.    He nailed a clothesline that sent Ali inside out.  Mansoor went for a dive to the floor but Ali kicked him as he came through the ropes.  Ali dropkicked him and went to the top but Mansoor rolled out of the way.  He drilled Ali with a belly to belly release suplex into the buckles.

Mansoor nailed a moonsault from the top and covered him for a two count.  Mansoor was snatched into a Koji Clutch, fighting to make it to the ropes.  He made it but Ali continued the beating.  Mansoor rolled out of the way of a 450 splash off the top.  Mansoor nailed a neckbreaker off the ropes and scored the pin.

Your winner, Mansoor!

This was exactly what this should have been to get the local babyface over.  Ali was excellent in his role as the jerk heel and Mansoor did everything he needed to.

Ali attacked Mansoor immediately after the win.    He was beating Ali down but someone came out to music dressed in an outfit that covered them up, including a shawl over their face.  They walked to the ring with a purpose and revealed themselves.  It turned out to be Olympic silver medalist in Karate Tarek Hamdi, who got a MASSIVE pop and then kicked and KO'd Ali before celebrating with Mansoor.  Again, for the local crowd, this was a big deal and the right move.

Titus O'Neil and Natalya came to the ring to promote Breast Cancer Awareness month, honoring four local women who have beaten breast cancer.  Each of the women were holding pink WWE Women's Championship belts.

They showed footage from earlier today of the Royal Saudi Air Force flying over the stadium.

WWE Raw Tag Team Champions RK-Bro vs. AJ Styles & Omos.

Riddle came out riding a camel, which explains why they were there earlier.  This would make Riddle the first person to ride a camel to the ring since Bobby Heenan at Wrestlemania IX all the way back in 1993.  This is the insight you pay me for, no doubt.

Riddle and Styles started.  Riddle caught him in the corner with a series of kicks.  Riddle was whipped into the corner but went up and over, drilling Styles again.  Orton tagged in and worked over Styles with shots to the mid-section.  The stadium chanted for RKO.  Styles taunted Omos and kicked Styles as he charged.  Orton began utilizing the Garvin stomp.   Riddle and Orton tagged in and out, working over the challenger.

Riddle nailed a suplex on Styles but tossed him towards Styles' own corner.  Omos tagged in and faced off with Riddle but Orton tagged in.  Orton measured and nailed Omos but it didn't phase the big man.  Omos nailed him and drilled Orton to the mat, then pulled him back up.  Omos picked up Orton and drilled him with snake eyes on the buckles, then stepped atop of Orton, trying to crush him underneath.

Orton kicked out from a Styles pinfall attempt so Omos tagged back in and cinched in a nerve hold.  Orton escaped by raking the eyes and tagged in Riddle.  Riddle met Styles in the center of the ring and cleaned house with kicks and an exploder.  Styles came back with the Pele Kick and went for the Styles Clash but Riddle escaped and tagged Orton, who sent AJ into Omos in the corner, then snapped Styles over with a powerslam.  Omos tried to get involved but was drilled to the floor.  Styles went for the Phenomenal Forearm but was caught in mid-air with an RKO.

Riddle tagged in and nailed the Floating Bro for the pin.

Your winners and still Raw Tag Team Champions, RK-Bro.

Queen's Crown Finals: Zelina Vega vs. Doudrop.

They each wrestled wearing t-shirts over long sleeves shirts.    Vega got right in Doudrop's face but was shoved down on her rear.  Vega nailed a big forearm, ducked a clothesline and nailed a series of kicks.  She was caught while going for one and slapped down.    Vega went to the apron but snapped her on the ropes when Doudrop approached.

Vega came off the top but was caught.  She tried to sunset flip her way out of it but no such luck as Vega was drilled with a double axe-handle.  Vega was worked over and kicked in the corner.  She went to the ropes for a move but was tripped up.  Vega nailed a tornado DDT off the ropes for a two count.  Michael Cole said Don Muraco was the first King of the Ring, which was factually correct.  Usually they say it's Bret Hart.

Vega locked on a Dragon Sleeper, trying to force a submission.  Doudrop fought to her feet and drove Vega backwards into the buckles.  Doudrop caught her with a big clothesline.  She went for a cannonball but Vega moved, so no water in the pool.  Vega dragged her out of the corner and covered her for a two count.  Vega charged but was caught with a spinning sideslam for another two count.  They went back and forth until Zelina paid tribute to The Amazing Red, nailing a Code Red for the pin.

Your winner, the first Queen's Crown Titleholder, Zelina Vega!

Good bout.

Vega marched to the throne with a purpose, put on the Queen's cape and crowned herself.    They declared "ALL HAIL QUEEN ZELINA" and blew up a ton of pyro.

They showed footage of the Riyadh parade, saying it was a celebration of modern Saudi Arabia.  Uh huh.

Bill Goldberg vs. Bobby Lashley in a Falls Count Anywhere No Holds Barred match.

They did the entire Goldberg entrance with all the fanfare and sparklers and walking through the back.  Big "Goldberg" chant from the live crowd.

Lashley nailed him early and sent him into the buckles, mauling him with punches and knees.  Lashley pulled out a table and brought some chairs into the ring as Goldberg struggled to recover.  Lashley went right after the same bad knee that Goldberg hurt at the Summerslam PPV.   Lashley set the table up in the corner, propping it against the buckles.

Goldberg was speared in the legs, flipping over to the mat.  Goldberg's leg was placed inside a chair, where Lashley worked it over.  Lashley went to come off the ropes and attempted to Pillmanize it but obviously missed the chair.  Goldberg writhed in pain.  Goldberg pulled himself up with the ropes.  Lashley went to spear Goldberg through the table but the WWE Hall of Famer moved and Lashley went through the table.

With Lashley down, Goldberg tried to recover.  The fans chanted for him.  He speared Lashley and went for the Jackhammer.  Goldberg lifted him, held him and nailed it but didn't go for the cover, since he wants to "kill" Lashley.  He ripped off his MMA gloves.  Lashley was dumped to the floor.  Goldberg speared Lashley through the barricade, which got a big pop.  He told Lashley, "You touched my son?  You're dead."  The crowd loved that spot.

Goldberg grabbed the stairs and set the top section apart from the lower piece of steel.  He went to retrieve Lashley, who was out on his feet.   He smashed Lashley into the barricade, then the announcing table.  He placed Lashley on the ring steps and told him he was going to pay.  He went to smash the top part onto Lashley but he moved out of the way.

Lashley began retreating up the aisle towards the entrance stage but was too tired to do much more than crawl.  Lashley made it the stage, where Cedric Alexander and Shelton Benjamin met him with kendo sticks.  They all charged Goldberg who took out everyone but Lashley.  They battled with the sticks with Goldberg getting one and caning away on Lashley's back.  Goldberg speared Lashley off the stage, where they crash down through tables and a crash pad.  Goldberg scored the pin.

Your winner, Goldberg!

Rough at times but easily the best Goldberg match in well over a year.
