COMPLETE NWA CROCKETT CUP 2022 NIGHT ONE PPV COVERAGE

By Anthony Pires on 2022-03-19 20:00:00

Welcome to PWInsider.com's live, ongoing NWA Crockett Cup PPV Night One coverage from Nashville, TN at the Nashville Fairgrounds!

We will find out who will join The Road Warriors, Dusty Rhodes & Nikita Koloff, Sting & Lex Luger and PCO & Brody King as past winners.

To begin the pre show, Kyle Davis brings out the challenger for tomorrow's NWA World Title match, Nick Aldis. The National Treasure is excited to watch night one of the Crockett Cup as a fan.  Tomorrow night, the circus known as Matt Cardona will be packing up the tent and leaving town for good.

Joe Galli and Tim Storm are on the call for the preshow.

Magic Jake Dumas vs. Catpian Yuma w/Danny Deals

Dumas was recently known as Fable Jake in the NWA, he's upgraded both his attitude and his wardrobe.  The NWA's Spaceman also has Jeremiah Plunkett with him.  Dumas promises to make his cigarette disappear.  He threw it in the air and punched Yuma as he looked up. I have to admit that this presentation of Dumas is a heck of a lot better than before.  Dude is big.  The funny thing about Yuma is that he's aligned with the Ill-Begotten, who have been out and out heels over the last few months in the NWA.  Yuma is taking a heck of a beating here

I still want to know what exactly Danny Deals does.  Yuma with a real good looking Busaiku knee for 2 but Magic Jake with the Abracadabra (TKO) with the pin.

WINNER: MAGIC JAKE DUMAS

Danny Deals and Plunkett walk away from the fallen Captain Yuma.

Violence is Forever (Kevin Ku and Domenic Garrini) vs.The Heatseekers (Elliot Russell & Sigmon) vs. The Bad News Boyz (The Tate Twins) vs. Rip City Shooters (Josh Bishop & Wes Barkley) in the play in Fatal 4 Way match

The winner of this one will go on to the PPV proper as the 16th seed.  Anyone that reads the AEW reports KNOWS how crazy it gets when I have to write these kinds of matches.  I'm really impressed with how the Shooters and The Twins look so far.  The Tate's are former 2/3 of the ROH Six Man Tag Team Champions with Dalton Castle.  The Heatseekers, which I did not know, are 4x NWA Tag Team Champions and never actually lost those belts, having surrendered them some time back when brand new ownership took over. Galli and Storm and doing a FANTASTIC job explaining who these guys are and what promotions they currently represent.  Galli, to me, does not get the props he deserves.  Kevin Ku looks like a star, combination of Malakai Black and Sanada

I like here how the action is staying in the ring.  How they're doing this one is that each team has one man legal at the same time.  Of course as soon as I compliment the action staying in the ring the Tates clear the ring and nail tope suicidas.  Spike piledriver by The Heat seekers to one of the Tates, pin is stopped by Sigmon. VIF nail a beautiful cradle piledriver into a spin kick.  Brandon Take with a surprise Oklahoma Roll on Garrino to score the pin.

WINNERS: THE TATE TWINS (will meet La Rebellion in Round 1)

CROCKETT CUP FIRST ROUND

Vic Delicious & Hale Collins (The NOW) vs Mark & Jay Briscoe

I can't tell you how great it is for me as a fan to see YOUR 12x ROH World Tag Team Champions and we're getting it for free on the preshow. For the record, Vic Dalishus is an awesome name.  Can't see Dem Boys losing here tonight as the #2 seed, although, a few weeks ago, The Fixers upset OGK in a first round match from Kentucky.

Briscoes seem nice and crisp so far and look like hitting HARD.  Collins has been completely isolated in the Briscoes corner in the early going.   Dalishus with a hard knee to Jay's back as he bounds off the ropes.  The NOW with a nice looking beackbreaker/elbowdrop combination.  Collins and Dalishus now using fast tags, keeping Jay Briscoe isolated on their side of the ring.  This match would not feel out of place if took place in Mid-South in 1985.

Mark Briscoe gets the hot tag.  Mark with a little Redneck Kung Fu.  Jay nails a neckbreaker on Dalishus and Mark hits the Froggy Bow for the the pin.  Great showing by The NOW

WINNERS: MARK AND JAY BRISCOE

Kyle Davis gets in the ring and the Briscoes commandeer the mic.  They want Nashville to party.  It's one down, 3 to go as far they're concerned.  Jay says that no other team is on their level.  They're ready!

Joe Galli reminds us that the legendary David Crockett is with us tonight.  He also runs down the card for tomorrow night.  I'm left wondering a little why the NWA chose to put all their title matches on night 2.  I'd imagine putting 1-2 on night one would add a little oomph to tonight's events.

The Crockett Cup PPV is NEXT.

The PPV proper portion of the Crockett Cup is live and on the air.

An "In Memory of Scott Hall" graphic is shown.

Velvet Sky has joined the booth.  The Crockett Cup is brought out and the great David Crockett comes out, accompanied by May Valentine.  I can tell that makes Mr. Crockett very happy.

We are told that Kratos is NOT yet in Nashville and that Aron Stevens is frantically trying to get in contact with him.

Crockett Cup First Round: The End (Odinson and Parrow) - 8th seed vs. Hawx Aerie (PJ & Luke Hawx) 9th seed

I believe that the Hawx' are only the second father-son combination to compete at the Crockett Cup, after Bob and Brad Armstrong in 1987.  Velvet Sky, interestingly enough, is breaking a little scoop by telling us that The End have not exactly been getting along as of late.  Could a mild upset be in the offing here?  Luke Hawx actually nails Odinson with a standing switch takedown in a show of power.  The edge, however, did not last long as the monster Parrow gets tagged in.  PJ is able to get the tag to Luke, who could pass as sons' big brother, that's how young he looks.  As The End are double teaming dad in the corner, PJ's youthful exuberance is getting the better of him as he keeps rushing the ring to save his father.  That same rookie-esque mistake causes him to get nailed on the apron when he's not paying attention to the opposition.

Parrow with a big chokeslam to Luke, PJ then gets knocked to the floor again  Luke Hawx displayed AMAZING power carrying Parrow off the 2nd rope and nailing The Razor's Edge.  PJ gets the tag.  He executes a few moves but, inexplicably, tags his dad back in.  The End quickly go for the Super Collider but Luke executes a hurancanrana.  As Odinson goes for an airplane spin, PJ Hawx with a deep small package for the pin.

WINNERS: HAWX AERIE

The End with an attack.  Parrow with a huge powerbomb on Luke.

May Valentine is with NWA President William Patrick Corgan, who waxes poetic about the history of past Cup events.  Valentine asks if he thinks Jeff Jarrett can be an impartial judge, given his recent comments about Matt Cardona.  Mr. Corgan is not sure which Jarrett he's going to get.

Crockett Cup First Round - The Cardonas (VSK & Mike Knox)- 11th seed vs. Mims & Pope -6th seed

Nice little bit of storytelling here as they remind us that it was Knox who send Pope to the hospital at the NWA's last PPV offering in December.  Mims, in the ring and in real life, should attach himself to Pope.  Mims has something, he's missing that "it" factor that drips off of Pope. The first 4-5 minutes of this match is all Pope and Mims until Knox was finally able to get in there to help out.  Sky hates Mike Knox, she tells us several times.  As in the prior match, it's Mims' inexperience costing his team the advantage, as he's easily distracted by the double team.

We're given some breaking news that Luke Hawx has suffered a concussion. That's going to make for a huge uphill climb for the Hawx Aerie team going forward.

Pope finally gets the tag, he gets a fast paced minute but then tags Mims back in quickly.  They hit the Doomsday Device on VSK, Knox makes the save.  Pope tries a tope suicida but Knox catches him and sends him into the post.  Knox gets back in and hits a neckbreaker.  VSK with a frog splash to Mims for the pin. Velvet Sky is not happy

WINNERS: MIKE KNOX & VSK

UPDATE: We're told from the back that PJ Hawx must now go it alone in the tournament

Kyle Davis brings out NWA World Women's Champion Kamille. The champ wants to know how Kylie Rae and Chelsea Green politicked their way into tomorrows Triple Threat match.  Kamille declares that this is another Corgan Conspiracy.  She guarantees a successful title defense tomorrow night.

Velvet Sky still vociferously hates The Cardonas.

Crockett Cup First Round - The Dirty Sexy Boys (JTG and Dirty Dango)- 10th seed vs. Aron Stevens & Kratos - 7th seed

Stevens goes to Kyle's desk and wants to know where Kratos is.  Stevens is absolute GOLD on the mic here, running down Nashville.  Stevens has a new partner, THE BLUE MEANIE!!!!!! Da Blue Guy is HERE! He pays respects to The Bad Guy.  I know what this means to him so I have a huge smile on my face watching him dance to the ring.  Stevens and Dango have a robe off competition.  As much as Velvet hates the Cardonas, she lover her some Dango.  If you're looking for the Midnight Express v. The Fantasics, this one might not be for you.  If The Bushwhackers vs. The Rougeaus is more your thing, this is definitely can't miss.  Vicious, and I mean VICIOUS tickle attack by the Blue Meanie.

Meanie then blinds us with science as he executes a drop toe hold.  In truth they've turned this match into a nice combination of comedy and mat wrestling.  Dango with a schoolboy trip and JTG follows up with a splash on the Meanie for the pin.

WINNERS: THE DIRTY SEXY BOYS

Nashville appreciates The Blue Meanie.

If you look at the brackets, with the exception of the Briscoes, it's been all upsets so far in terms of the seedings.

Crockett Cup First Round: Strictly Business (Thom Lattimer and Chris Adonis) 5 seed vs. Gold Rushhh (Jordan Clearwater and Marshe Rockett w/BLK Jeez -12 seed

NWA TV Champion Tyrus is lurking about and wants the music cut.  He wants Nashville to keep quiet so Clearwater can take his robe off in peace.  Strictly Business attacks and Masters lays out Clearwater with a Masterlock.  The bell finally rings and Clearwater is already in a world of trouble. First few minutes here are an absolute brutalization of Clearwater. He finally got the tag.  Clearwater with a low blow and Rockett nails Lattimer with Tyrus' TV title belt and pins Lattimer. BIGGEST upset in the tournament so far.  I had Lattimer and Adonis to make it to the finals.

WINNERS: GOLD RUSHHH

May Valentine with The Fixers, who have already advanced to the quarterfinals.
