Austin Aries vs. Davey Richards
Let's do the Time Warp Again.
Aries played Larry Zbsyzko early, stalling. They did a lot of back and forth wrestling early. Aries retreated from the ring whenever Richards started to build some momentum. Richards finally caught him with some offense, culminating with a big dropkick that sent Aries to the floor. Richards kicked him off the apron and went for a dive. Aries ran up the aisle to escape.
Richards followed him to the floor, where Aries fought with him but was sent into the stairs. Richards nailed a series of punches and tossed him into the ring. Richards went to the top but Aries splashed the ropes to knock Richards down. Richards was sent to the floor. Aries dove off the top to the floor. He nailed a slingshot splash and an elbow for a two count.
Aries nailed an elbow off the ropes to the back of Richards' neck for a two count, then cinched in a side chinlock. Richards fought back and sent Aries to the floor, nailing a big dive to his chest. Richards nailed a missile dropkick. He went for a suplex but Aries elbowed his way out. Richards nailed a superkick and a German suplex for a two count. Aries came back with several big slaps and a big dive to the outside.
Aries nailed a big missile dropkick for a two count. Aries nailed another dropkick in the corner. Aries began working on Richards' knee and locked in the Last Chancery (Muta Lock). Richards was able to get to the ropes to force the break. Aries went for a brainbuster but Richards drilled him with a knee. Aries nailed a big dropkick in the corner, then snapped Richards with the brainbuster for a two count. The crowd chanted, "This is awesome."
They began drilling each other with stiff forearms, headbutts and chops. Richards elevated Aries and nailed him with a kick as he came down. Richards nailed a big throw suplex and went to the top with a double stomp for a two count as Aries got his shoulder up at the last second.
Bobby Roode came out but before he could interfere, Eddie Edwards pulled him out. Richards was distracted and Aries rolled him up and hooked the tights for the pin.
Your winner, Austin Aries!
I know that finish really shocked you. The match itself was fine but hard to emotionally connect to since we already know where all this is going.
Aries quoted Hannibal and said, "I love it when a plan comes together." Aries said he was going to give the people exactly what they wanted - a bra and panties match. He said he was just kidding. He said they go longer and harder than everyone and announced a 30 minute Iron Man Match.
So weird to be watching this live knowing what was already taped. TNA should have just acknowledged the situation and booked accordingly.
Backstage, Jeremy Borash interviewed Eric Young who said he's had every championship in TNA and promised he wasn't scared of anyone. Good, ranting promo.
Awesome Kong & Brooke Tessmacher vs. TNA Knockouts champion Taryn Terrell & Marti Belle & Jade
Taryn cut a pretty good promo before the match putting The Dollhouse over. She's come SO far from her days as the ECW GM where I used to really cringe listening to her. There's something infinitely likable about Brooke.
It was all Kong destroying the Dollhouse early on. They tried to regroup on the floor but when she returned to the ring, Jade was tossed around and beaten down by Kong. Kong splashed Jade. Marti tried to stop her but instead ended up splashing her own partner. Kong splashed them both.
Brooke tagged in and nailed a flying rana on Marti. Marti took over on Brooke and choked her with her boot, then slammed her into the mat. Marti went for something but it barely nailed. Jade tagged in and nailed a big suplex. Jade locked her in a bearhug but Brooke escaped and boxed her ears. Jade grabbed her in one again. The Dollhouse tagged in and out, working over Brooke.
Brooke finally made the tag to Kong who worked over Jade. Marti broke up a pinfall after a high cross bodyblock. They attempted to clothesline Kong, but she ran through it. Brooke knocked Taryn off the apron. She and Kong controlled Jade and Kong. Brooke nailed her finisher, the Butterface Maker, a Faceplant off the top and scored the pin.
Your winner, Awesome Kong and Brooke!
OK match. They were obviously working hard and while some stuff didn't connect, I was never bored and thought the effort was good. It made sense to keep Taryn out as a way to build to the story that unfolds on Wednesday.
Jeremy Borash interviewed Magnus. Magnus said it was the 13th anniversary of the little company with big, big dreams. He said the stars are out and ready to shine. He said the smart money says TNA's brightest stars shine for the last time on PPV. He said that for six years, the company has been his home and he grew up here and he's damn proud of it. He said Storm tried to take his life away and went for his wife and his son. He said he doesn't hate James Storm even though he wants to. He said he has to believe that love is stronger then hate and he loves his family. He said that the devil can't catch him tonight, because he's already inside. I thought that was the best Magnus promo I've ever seen.
