Punk said that a week after he left, Vince texted him and asked him how he was feeling and whether he was ready to come back to work. So, Vince McMahon didn't understand that Punk was really done. Punk told him, "No."
Punk said he was mentally shot and still wasn't sleeping and was still sick. Finally, his fiancé [Mike: Now wife, AJ Lee] convinced him to go see her doctor in Florida, who he described as looking like Patrick Bateman from "American Psycho" with white hair. The doctor he had never seen Punk before and had no background information on him.
He walked into the room and had no idea who Punk was. The doctor asked Punk what the problem was. Punk pulls down his shorts and showed him the purple lump on his back. The guy turns his head sideways, looks at Punk and says, "That's a full blown staph infection." Punk then said he was told it was likely MRSA , an extremely dangerous strain of the infection which can be resilient to medications.
Punk said he laughed the same way he did when a doctor told him he had cracked his skull while working an independent in New Jersey years ago. He performed this insane, "Of course I do" laugh.
Punk asked the doctor was he was going to do. The doctor said that he could cut it out, but Punk would have to go to get an IV drip and be in the hospital for a week. Punk asked him what they could do if Punk didn't have time for that. Right there in his office, the guy cut it and squeezed it and "sh** shot to the ceiling."
Punk said he's had tattoos in some of the most painful places on his body, he's fractured his skull, has had Ryback break his ribs kicking him and he wrestled three weeks after knee surgery in a TLC match, but the medical procedure was the most painful experience of his entire life.
Punk said, "I don't know why it hurt so bad.", but he was sweating like he was in the Sahara desert and clutching the table. Punk said the doctor squeezed and squeezed and squeezed, then patched him up and gave him three months of antibiotics. Punk told the doctor that he had been on antibiotics for a long time but it didn't help. The Doctor said that unless they were specific drugs for a MRSA infection, it wasn't going to do anything.
When the doctor asked him how long he had been dealing with this and Punk said a few months. The doctor told him, "You should be dead."
