Generico and Callihan slowly approach each other in the middle of the ring and have words before Callihan shoves Generico, Generico responds by drilling Callihan with a Yakuza kick in the corner, and they roll back and forth reversing a small package until Callihan comes out on top for 3.
Callihan: 1, Generico: 0
Generico seems shocked, but continues the assault on Callihan, unloading with forearms in the corner and taking Callihan over with a snapmare before locking him in a rear chinlock. Callihan gets up and takes Generico to the corner and piefaces him on the break, then kicks him in the gut and gets a hard bodyslam in the middle of the ring. Callihan drills Generico with a headbutt, and Generico fires a couple of shots back at him, but Callihan starts going to work on Generico's knee, taking him down with a single leg and tying up his leg with a grapevine. Callihan stomps the knee and then picks Generico up and chops him in the face, then he and Generico exchange headbutts in mid ring, but Generico goes down and Callihan swoops right in with repeated headbutts to Generico as he lays on the mat. Callihan goes for a cover but only gets 2, and Generico floats out to a front facelock on Callihan. Callihan gets back to his base and goes for another small package, but Generico gets out at 2 this time. Callihan appears to be getting in Generico's head, as Generico backs off and kind of freezes as Callihan charges in and nails him, then springs off the bottom rope to stomp on Generico's knee. Callihan takes Generico out to the floor and rams him headfirst into the barricade, then picks him up and rams his knee into the ringpost. Generico hops away from Callihan on one leg, but Callihan's legs both work and he's easily able to catch up to him and send him back inside for more punishment. Callihan gets a modified spinning toehold and then rolls Generico over into a modified version of the Indian Deathlock with anklelock thrown in to boot. Generico makes it to the ropes, but Calihan goes right back to the knee after the break, twisting it around the middle rope while stomping at the leg. Callihan picks Generico up and goes for a vertical suplex, but Generico keeps a low base, so Callihan changes course and picks him up and bodyslams him toward the edge of the ring so Generico's legs hit the ropes on the way down. Callihan goes for another cover and again only gets 2, so Callihan throws Generico out through the ropes, and Generico comes down on his bad knee and appears to be in trouble. Generico slowly makes his way back in, and Callihan simply waits for Generico so he can grab him and toss him right back out the other side of the ring, and quickly follows up with a high velocity dive through the ropes. Callihan rolls back inside and lets the referee count, but Generico makes it back in a second time, so Callihan throws him back outside yet again and this time follows him out. Callihan and Generico trade shots on the floor and Callihan nearly caves Generico's chest in with a chop, but Generico blocks a suplex and counters with a suplex of his own, dumping Callihan right onto the timekeeper's table. Luckily, it was one of those light plastic tables and was a lot cushier than your run of the mill wooden table, so Callihan was able to roll back inside just before the 20 count. Generico goes for a Yakuza kick on Callihan in the corner, but Callihan moves out of the way and charges in with a facewash on Generico. Callihan measures Generico, then charges in with a second facewash. Generico is in bad shape as Callihan spits at him, and Generico catches Callihan charging in and tries a suplex, but Callihan reverses to a suplex of his own. Generico suplexes Callihan into the corner on the second try, and after the bad knee gives him a bit of trouble hitting the brainbuster, Generico hits the move on the second attempt and ties the match up.
Callihan: 1, Generico: 1
Generico goes for the kill and picks Callihan back up and hits a Blue Thunder Driver for 2. He takes too long picking Callihan back up and telling the fans he was going for another brainbuster, and Callihan is able to recover and pick Generico's leg out from under him and hook Generico in a figure four right in the middle of the ring. Generico uses his long body to make it to the ropes and force the break, and Callihan tries to go up top but Generico popped right back to his feet and nails Callihan with a Yakuza kick that sends him plummeting out to the floor. Generico goes to the top rope and comes off with a crossbody, and he rolls Callihan back inside and goes to the top again, but Callihan comes up and tries to hit the top rope brainbuster. Generico blocks and knocks Callihan off the ropes and puts him in his own stretch muffler. Callihan nearly taps, but counters to a stretch muffler of his own. Generico tries to roll out, but Callihan rolls through with him and scissors the body, and Generico is left with no choice but to tap out.
Winner: Sami Callihan
Great match, and I'm glad to see Callihan get a big win like this since we often see him losing matches that could get him over the hump. Callihan says he was waiting a long time for this win after being suspended for five shows, then he tells the cameraman to zoom in and look in his eyes when he says this, because it doesn't matter whether it's Dragon Gate USA or EVOLVE, tonight was the first step of Sami Callihan becoming a champion.
We wrap the show up with the Open The United Gate Title match on Page 4!
