2 PM RING OF HONOR TAKE NO PRISONERS PPV TAPING
For the first time since they have been running Mania weekend, ROH won't be
going head to head with the WWE Hall of Fame. Part of that reason is pure
strategy - with WWE now running Arenas for the Hall ceremony, it was going to
bite into ROH's potential gate. The second is simply that ROH management,
specifically owner Cary Silkin, want to attend the ceremonies.
With that in mind, the promotion will run a 2 PM matinee for their latest PPV
taping (scheduled to debut in June), titled "Take No Prisoners."
The announced lineup for the PPV, pending any last minute changes dictated by
storylines or injuries:
*ROH World Champion Nigel McGuinness & Claudio Castagnoli vs. NWA World
Champion Blue Demon Jr. & Brent Albright
*Jimmy Jacobs vs. The Necro Butcher - No DQ
*Alex Koslov vs. Roderick Strong
*ROH Tag Team champions Kevin Steen & El Generico & Jay Briscoe & Magno vs.
The American Wolves & Chris Hero & Incognito
*Bryan Danielson vs. Jerry Lynn vs. Erick Stevens vs. D-Lo Brown
*Colt Cabana vs. Ace Steel
6 PM THE 2009 WWE HALL OF FAME CEREMONY
Let's face it - the WWE Hall of Fame is no more legitimate than any other
televised product created by World Wrestling Entertainment. It's a vehicle
designed to help sell tickets, get WWE a rating the night before Wrestlemania
and to help move DVDs of Wrestlemania. There is no governing body controlling
it other than Vince McMahon himself (oddly enough, the most deserving Hall of
Fame there could ever be, yet still not in), so you have to take the Hall for
what it truly is.
That said, it's often one of the best nights of the year to be a wrestling
fan. It's a night to see older names who at times have been forgotten be
honored, to see old video pieces and to hear some really heartfelt stories and
memories of those who have sadly passed away.
The Hall may have been designed to produce money for the company, but like
Wrestlemania itself, it's evolved into something of importance among wrestling
fans and the talents themselves, to the point that the news some of the
current talents would be booked to appear at AXXESS went over as well as the
Heroes of Wrestling PPV. Everyone wants to be at the Hall, because it's a
reminder of what the business was and what made it so great.
The 2009 Class is absolutely awesome and may be the strongest class of
all-time:
*Steve Austin (inducted by Vince McMahon)
*Terry and Dory Funk Jr. (inducted by Dusty Rhodes)
*The Von Erich family (inducted by Michael Hayes).
*Cowboy Bill Watts (inducted by Jim Ross)
*Ricky Steamboat. (inducted by Ric Flair)
*Howard Finkel. (inducted by Gene Okerlund)
*Koko B. Ware (inducted by Honkytonk Man)
The USA Network will air an edited version of the show at 10 PM Eastern.
