WWE GETS GOOD RATINGS NEWS, CM PUNK, THE ROCK, DIVAS ON TOUR

WWE got good news in the fast national rating for the first episode of Smackdown on The CW this past Friday when the show scored a 2.6 fast national rating, with a 5 share.  They did 1.3 fast national rating in the 18 to 49 demo.  So, the first night back at full strength, the show did a solid, if unspectacular, rating.  The final number should be out by tomorrow.

John F. sent this link to an article about the Rock in The Boston Herald.

Mike D. sent this in response to my Q and A question about CM Punk today. ... about the CM Punk-Pepsi thing. Pepsi (and Coke for that matter) are popular among Straight Edge kids. Having grown up in the lifestyle, it comes from a song called "Institutionalized" by Suicidal Tendencies..."All I wanted was a Pepsi, just one Pepsi."  Just like the X's, Pepsi is just another thing Edge kids use to express themselves.

WEEKEND NOTES:

LOTS OF WWE NEWS AND NOTES

A few readers sent word that the Boston Metro paper has posted an article that talks about the negative stereotyping of Cryme Tyme's gimmick and one man's fight to make WWE kill the gimmick.  To read it, click here.

Jeanette Bihm sent this item. ... Matt Cappotelli has started a clothing line called Faith-Ink. There's a website you can go to and buy items, and there are pics of various wrestlers wearing the shirts, and Matt is in a few of them.  Here's the link: www.faith-ink.com.

To follow up yesterday's story on JBL talking about leaving WWE, the latest word is that WWE is trying to accommodate him so that he can stay and do his full time job in investments.

We got word yesterday that Jim Ross would be doing commentary on this week's ECW show in Tulsa, OK this week but we have been told by WWE sources that is not the case.

IGN.com has an interview online with Batista.  You can read it by clicking here.

WWE HAS THREE HOUR RAW SET FOR NEXT MONTH, BIG RAW PLANNED TOMORROW, HOGAN TALKING ABOUT ENDING HIS CAREER AND MORE

Devin Cutting reporting. ... The USA Network will be airing a 3-hour special called "WWE: The Raw Family Reunion" on Monday, October 9th, 2006 from 8 PM to 11 PM.

Mike Montgomery reporting. ... The commercials promoting RAW on the Score here in Canada seem to indicate that a new GM is going to be named this week or something along those lines. The commercial asks "With the McMahons gone, who will steer the rudderless ship" and also says to make sure not to miss the first ten minutes. ... Thanks to Jason LaBonte for sending that along as well.

Kurt from Massapequa sent this one. ... I was watching the NASCAR race on Sunday. As you previously reported would happen, Brooke Hogan sang the national anthem and Hulk Hogan gave the command to start the engines.... "Gentlemen, start your engines, brother!" After the drivers started their engines, Bill Weber, the play-by-play announcer, said "When the
Hulkster talks, everyone listens." Additionally, they ran a promo for next week's races and the Busch race next Saturday from Kansas Speedway will be presented by "The Marine." This is not the title sponsor of the race, but is used by the television networks for additional advertising dollars. The title of the race for TV will be "The Yellow 300 Presented by The Marine."  A lot of wrestling news at the race today!

Speaking of Hogan, Jay sent this. ... Hulk Hogan did interviews at the NASCAR race and talked about possibly making WrestleMania XXIII his last match. The story is at this link.

Mike K sent this link, which goes to Lance Storm's latest column where he talks an in-depth look at TNA.
