The Young Bucks (Matt and Nick Jackson) vs The Gunns (Austin and Colten Gunn) vs The Lucha Brothers (Rey Fenix and Penta El Zero Miedo) w/Alex Abrahantes) vs Orange Cassidy and Hook - The winner gets a tag team title match
If I had to do the play by play, this would be bullet point Jones (as Taz likes to say). This is gonna be a major spotfest to get the crowd super hyped.
Also, Rick Knox is NOT the referee.
Rey and Nick start off and they do some quick stuff in the middle fo the ring before Cassidy tags himself in and he and Rey work. Rey is selling his shoulder got hurt, and when Rey tags in Penta, the Gunns attack him outside the ring before rolling him into the ring and Colton tags him.
They go after Orange and then Austin tags in from Cassidy so the Gunn try to pin each other, and the ref does not allow it. We then get the Bucks come into the ring and after Colton is tossed, Cassidy tags in Hook so we get Hook and Matt. Matt and Hook have dueling Northern Lights suplexes. Austin tags in and it’s time for the Gunns to both get suplexed by Cassidy and Hook.
The Gunn double team Hook and we’re told that Rey is no longer at ringside. The Gunns take over beating on Hook and keeping anyone else from getting into the ring. Hook finally gets the hot tag to Penta, who runs wild on the Gunns, and in the whole sequence, the Gunns were GREAT as the medicless heels, beating down Hook with arrogance and taunting the crowd.
Nick Jackson tags in and it’s time for spots, but he’s out quickly and Hook gets Redrum on Austin, but Austin tags in Nick. Nick tries to steal a pin with Hook still holding the Redrum, but Cassidy breaks it up. The Bucks tag in and get superkicks and a BTE on Penta for the pin and the win.
Winners: The Young Bucks
There’s your AEW spotfest for the night.
Adam Page vs Swerve Strickland w/Prince Nana and his dance
I have now heard Page talk about the black cloud that kept him unhappy more times than I have heard about beer during an NFL game and it still makes no sense if you aren’t following backstage drama and the internet. Insider stuff can be cool or annoying. This is annoying.
Page is walking into a match where he is NOT the babyface in the eyes of local fans.
Swerve gets sheers when he hits a shoulder tackle, and Page gets a chorus of boos when he hits a big kick. As the match goes, the crowd has taken over this match with loud reactions. I haven’t been a football fan for long, but Seattle is showing that their wrestling fans are just as loud as their football fans here.
As they work the match it’s amazing to watch Page do the kind of thing that normally gets him cheers (moonsaults from the top, dives, etc…) and getting an opposite reaction. Swerve si selling as if he is the babyface in peril, which is al;so driving the crowd.
This match is just fascinating to watch. Not for the match itself, which is pretty much by the numbers, but for the crowd. As Swerve powers up, he is getting the biggest pops of the night. Swerve takes a deadeye on the steel steps and Page is the first one up. Page sets up for the buckshot. Swerve is able to get a drop toe hold from the move and then stomps on Page’s arm in a butterfly hold.
The medical team is checking him out and Swerve hits the Swerve stomp on the apron and follows with a 450 on the injured arm. Swerve goes for an arm bar and Page gets a rope break.
The crowd chanted This is Awesome when Swertrve snapped the arm. Brutal.
They have a sequence where Swerve goes for the arm bar again, and Page goes after Swerve’s injured hand. Page hits the buckshot, but he used the injured arm so he can’t follow up. When he does get the pin, Nana puts the foot on the ropes, and the crowd cheers for Nana. The ref sends him to the back and Page follows up to massive boos.
Nana argues his case and Page goes for another buckshot, but Swerve uses Nana’s crown to cut him off. Swerve hits a JML driver for the pin and the win and gets the biggest crowd reaction of the night.
Winner: Swerve Strickland
Nigel taps out and Jim Ross with Jon Moxley tag in.
Ricky Starks vs Wheeler Yuta
They start off with mat wrestling and Yuta is able to get them to their feet, gets an arm bar and then go to the corner for a break. Mox says he was fined for swearing on Zero Hour, and it’s not long before he is swearing again. They move to a slap fight, and Yuta wins that exchange. Ricky then starts beating on Yuta and takes over.
Starks gets in walking on the ropes and lays in strikes. Starks has great facial expressions as he works over Yuta. Yuta moves to leaps and slams for his pin attempts and then tries for an arm bar. Starks makes it to the ropes, and Big Bill comes down the ring. Starks gets a power bomb and then flips through it for the pin. Starks rips off the elbow pad and hits the hammer and anvil elbows, which just pisses Yuta off.
Starks cuts him off with a slam, but he takes too long to get to the top and Yuta knocks him off into Bill on the floor. Yuta leaps to the floor and Bill tries to slam him, but Yuta sends him into the ringpost. He returns to the ring and they mix it up and Starks is able to get the rochambeau for the pin and the win.
Winner: Ricky Starks
Oddly, a comedown match after the emotion of the Swerve Strickland match. Mox on commentary was funny and in character.
