WWE RAW REPORT: A NEW BELT, A NEW MATCH FOR BACKLASH, THE DRAFT IS COMING, AND MORE

By Richard Trionfo on 2023-04-24 23:00:00

We are back and Paul Levesque makes his way to the ring to make an announcement.

He says as a WWE Superstar, he had the privilege of competing at the highest level for all of you.  I had the privilege of standing in this ring in this very arena at Wrestlemania 22 defending the WWE Championship against one of the greatest of all time, John Cena.  I have the incredible privilege that WWE will be all that it can be.  I am here to talk about Roman Reigns, the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion who is coming up on 1,000 days as champion.  That is unheard of in the modern era.  He has defended the title against a who's who of superstars.  Paul says he cannot think of many who could hang in the ring with Roman because he is that good.  Along the way, Roman did something very smart.  Anything any intelligent superstar would have done.  He did not have to defend the title as frequently.  He says he doesn't blame Roman and while that is great for Roman.  That is not great for WWE.

WWE deserves more and you deserve more.  You need more than that.  That is why he said the draft would change WWE at its very core.  When Roman gets drafted to whatever brand he gets drafted to, he will take the Undisputed Championship with him and he will stay there.  The other brand will determine a new champion.  On May 27th at Night of Champions, we will crown a new World Heavyweight Champion.

Paul unveils the new belt.

He says this will be a champion you can be proud of.  A champion you can respect and admire.  A champion who will defend this championship anywhere, anyplace, any time, all over the world.  This champion will not have to demand your acknowledgment.  This champion will earn your acknowledgment and the title of World Heavyweight Champion.

We take a look back at Damian Priest and Bad Bunny from the Raw after Wrestlemania.

Cathy waits to talk to Damian Priest but he is with Finn and Dom.

Finn asks Dom and Damian if he is invisible.  Priest tells Finn to get ready.

Cathy asks Priest how he feels that Bad Bunny is here.  Priest says it is great that Bad Bunny is here to promote hosting Backlash.  He is a top recording artist and he had some success in WWE when he had Priest behind his back.  Priest says he does not go to Coachella to try to get in his business.

Dom says Bad Bunny can watch Damian take care of his deadbeat dad.

We have a Bronson Reed video package.

He says he does not see anyone who can compete with him.  No one has his strength, speed, and power.  If they did, they want to be popular.  Bronson says he just wants to win til there is no one left to beat.  Pose for the selfies, take all the photographs, and kiss all the babies because no one can measure up to Bronson Reed.

Jimmy, Jey, and Solo are in the locker room and Jimmy talks about what they are going to do to Kevin, Sami, and Riddle.  Jimmy wants to know what is wrong with Jey.  Jey asks if Jimmy thought about what happens if they don't win on Friday.  Jey says he talked to Sami in the hallway and Jimmy tells Jey not to talk to Sami because he is playing mind games.  Solo calms Jimmy down.  He tells Jey he cannot talk to Sami and he needs to stay focused.  Jey asks what if they don't win.  Jimmy says they will go out there and do what they always do.  They are going to win on Friday for the Bloodline and for Roman.

Match Number Three:  Bayley, Iyo Sky, and Dakota Kai versus Bianca Belair, Raquel Rodriguez, and Liv Morgan

Bianca and Iyo start things off.  They lock up and Iyo goes for a rollup but Bianca with a handspring.  Bianca blocks a crucifix move.  Iyo with a handspring move and Bianca with a round off and drop kick.  Dakota tags in and Bianca with a marching suplex.  Raquel tags in and she Irish whips Dakota and hits a splash into the corner.  Liv tags in and Raquel tosses Liv into the corner with a hip.  Raquel tosses Bayley into the corner and Raquel with shoulders to Bayley and Dakota.  Liv gets on Raquel's shoulders for an Iconoclasm onto Dakota for a near fall.  Dakota with a scorpion kick but Liv with a face buster.  Dakota rolls to the floor and Iyo with a sliding kick on the apron.

We take a look back at what happened last week during the Austin Theory and Bobby Lashley match that was interrupted by Bronson Reed.

United States Champion Austin Theory makes his way to the ring.

We go to commercial.

We are back and Austin welcomes everyone to Austin Theory Live.  He says this is the experience everyone wants to be a part of.  You might not want to, but there are two people who want this experience, Bronson Reed and Bobby Lashley.  Austin says he is the greatest US champion of all time.  Where is his respect?  Austin says he did not choose his opponents.  When he looks over there, he sees a new championship.  A Championship Triple H just introduced.  It should not be on that pedestal, it should be around his waist.  He said that title should be earned and that person should be him.

Instead of somebody putting that title around his waist because he deserves it, he is in a Triple Threat match where he does not have to be pinned to lose the title.  Austin says you say he sucks, but he pinned John Cena at Wrestlemania.

Bobby Lashley's music plays and he makes his way to the ring.

Bobby says he doesn't have a problem with Austin and he calls him kid.  Bobby says the only problem he has is that Austin is holding his title.  You talk about being the greatest US champion ever, but when are you going to accept the challenges.  He says he knows how tough Austin is.  Austin is young, hungry, and tough.  Are you lazy and don't want to work or are you scared?  You should be welcoming every opportunity to fight for that title because Bobby says he would.  You ask who requested that Triple Threat match at Backlash, he did.

Austin says if Bobby is so good at requesting matches, where was your match at Wrestlemania.

Bobby says he should knock Austin's teeth down his throat for saying that.

Theory swings at Lashley and misses.  Lashley with a double leg take down and Lashley sends Austin into the ringside barrier.  Lashley with punches and he gets Austin on his shoulders but Austin gets to his feet and he pushes Bobby into Bronson.  Austin hits Lashley from behind.  Austin holds Lashley against the ring post and Bronson with a splash to the back.  Austin gets Lashley up and hits A Town Down.  Reed with a body block to Theory and a back senton.  Reed goes up top and hits Tsunami on Theory.

Reed picks up the title belt and holds it over Theory.

We go to footage of Elias and Boogs earlier today and he says there is a lot to think about.  Elias has Gable try to explain it to Boogs.  Chad explains the rules of the draft.  Chad says he is ready to be drafted along side Otis and Alpha Academy stays intact.

Maxxine says that wherever Otswa goes, she goes.

Mustafa Ali says with the draft coming, everyone needs to be more positive.  He knows that Chad is afraid of losing his best friend, but he could find his true potential.  Chad could be the World Champion, but the end of Alpha Academy and Chad's life.  Ali says he will beat Chad.

Otis says that Chad will beat Ali.

We see a video of Bad Bunny driving to the building.

Match Number Four:  Chad Gable (with Otis and Maxxine Dupri) versus Mustafa Ali

Gable with a leg sweep and a near fall.  Gable with an arm drag and Ali with an arm drag.  Ali avoids an arm drag.  Gable with an overhead belly-to-belly throw.  Gable with chops and an Irish whip.  Gable misses a splash into the corner and Ali with a kick.  Ali goes for a slingshot rolling neck breaker and Chad catches Ali and hits a Dragon suplex for a near fall.  Gable misses a shoulder in the corner when Ali floats over and Ali with a satellite DDT.  Ali goes up top and he goes for a 450 splash but misses and rolls through.  Ali counters Chaos Theory into a victory roll for the three count.

Winner:  Mustafa Ali

Jimmy Uso tells Sami he knows that Sami is playing mind games with Jey.  Jimmy says they will win the titles.  Jimmy asks Sami if Kevin forgot all of the things you did while part of the Bloodline.  Kevin never forgave you, he used you to get the tag titles.  When you lose that, Kevin will turn on you and will deserve every bit of it.  Don't worry about his brother, worry about yours.
