MICKIE JAMES' LAST STAND, BULLY VS. ALEXANDER, NEW SIGNINGS & TONS MORE: COMPLETE IMPACT WRESTLING HARD TO KILL 2023 PPV COVERAGE

By Mike Johnson on 2023-01-13 19:31:00

Eddie Edwards vs. Jonathan Gresham.

The crowd was giving Edwards all sorts of grief.  They locked up and early on it was back and forth wrestling until Edwards started to pull his heel antics.    Gresham was able to toss him to the floor and nailed a dive to the outside.  Edwards chopped the hell out of him.  He charged but Gresham armdragged him on the floor.  Back inside the ring, Gresham nailed several inverted atomic drops and an overhead belly to belly suplex.

They went back and forth with some good grappling with Edwards hitting some powerslams and similar moves to try and ward off Gresham's scientific acumen.  Edwards arrogantly and mockingly slapped him, but Gresham slapped back.  Edwards drilled him hard and Jonathan went down.  They continued to go back and forth with some damn good wrestling and you could hear the live crowd was with them all of the way.   Gresham kept working on the arm.  Just a very old school bout as they beat and worked over each other.  This was dramatically different from everything else on the show.

Edwards nailed the Blue Thunder Bomb.  Gresham kicked up.  Eddie drove him into buckles and went for the Backpack stunner but his arm was worn down and Gresham cinched in a submission.  Eddie went to the floor, where Gresham nailed a dive.  Gresham went to the top but was crotched on the top.  They battled on the top.  Gresham locked on a sleeper.  Eddie dropped down and Gresham smashed jaw-first into the top buckle.    This is a damn good match!

Gresham ducked the Boston Knee Party and was caught in a Dragon suplex for a two count.  Edwards nailed an inverted slam and a big powerbomb for a sit-out pinfall attempt.  They went into a series of near falls.  Gresham was drilled with a big elbow strike that sent him inside out for a two count.  Edwards nailed the Boston Knee Party and scored the pin.

Your winner, Eddie Edwards!

Hell of a match.

The lights went out and they did a big production to lead to the return of PCO, which the crowd chanted for.  When the lights came back on, he spit sand back out of his mouth (since he was buried in the desert) and attacked Edwards, laying him out.

By the way, Tom Hanifan and Matt Rehwoldt have been EXCELLENT tonight on the call.

Impact Wrestling Knockouts Champion Jordynne Grace vs. Mickie James - If James does not win, she must retire.

James family, including her parents, are in the front row.  They had Native American dancers for James' ring entrance.  They made it a big deal.  Lisa Marie Varon was crying in the front row as they started the bout.

They had some nice back and forth wrestling early.  It started to get heated for Mickie slapped Grace several times.  Grace finally fired back with a thick one that sent Mickie to the mat.  It began to tell the story of Mickie's finesse and experience vs. Grace's sheer power and might.  James nailed the Thesz Press for a two count.  Grace took control and began beating down James' back.  James was sent to the top.  Grace met her and they battled with James nailing a bulldog off the top into the ring.  Mickie was too shot to capitalize and they were almost counted out on the mat.

Mickie and Grace got to their feet.  James used a series of kicks to take her down.  She went to the top.  James grabbed her arm and did the Old School walk (I guess she was watching Mike Jackson!) and dove off, driving Grace off the apron to the entrance ramp.  They battled back to the ring, where Grace held James up for a delayed vertical superplex and held on to nail the Jackhammer for a near fall.

Grace went for the Grace Driver but James countered.  She was sent into the buckles but fought back and nailed a Flapjack.   They battled back and forth until Grace slammed her with authority with a big spinebuster for a close two count.  Grace went for a tombstone but James reversed it.  Mickie went for the Mick Kick but was caught and driven into the buckles.  James escaped a Muscle Buster and used a backslide.  They went into a series of reversals and pinfall attempts.  Mickie went for the DDT but was naied with a backfist.  James turned a Grace Driver attempt into a small package for a two count.  James hit the DDT but Grace kicked up at the very last second.

They battled back and forth but Grace snatched her into a rear naked choke out of a pinfall attempt.  James rolled over and turned it into a pinfall attempt for a two count.  Grace locked on another rear naked choke.  James fought for the ropes but was pulled back to the center of the ring.  James was fading but surged with energy after her arm dropped twice.    Grace drove her into the buckles several times.  James shoved her into the ring post shoulder-first and nailed a tornado DDT for the pin.

Your winner and new Knockouts Champion, Mickie James!

Great main event as the crowd bought into the near falls and the story that this was Mickie's last stand.  Very well done.  Grace was an excellent monster champion here and James played the veteran babyface perfectly.

Tara entered the ring and hugged James.  James's son Donovan entered the ring and celebrated with her, along with her parents and other family members.
