I am shocked we are almost an hour in and no mention of Johnny Knoxville entering the Royal Rumble.
Kevin Owens said Brock being added to his match was a tragedy and a travesty. He is going to Seth Rollins so they can make a plan.
They aired a Seth Rollins profile piece.
Next up is Raw Tag Team Champions RK-Bro vs. The Street Profits.
Migos came out with the champs. They are huge hip hop stars, the biggest group going right now, and it's a big get for WWE. I couild have sworn they were announced as performing to open the show but instead they are sitting ringside. My boy Terrelder noted Migos coming out with RK-Bro is "weird."
It was Orton and Dawkins going back and forth early but Orton tagged Montez in the eye to cut off the Profits' momentum. Riddle tagged in and used a series of kicks to control the bout. The Profits worked over Riddle for some time. It's just OK so far.
Orton made the hot tag and worked over The Profits, hitting a double hanging DDT off the ropes. Ford came back to hit an incredible flip dive over the ringpost to the floor onto the champs. Ford mounted some offense before Riddle elevated him into a RKO out of nowhere. The champs retain. This was fine, but again, there was never a sense of the champions being in dire straights or anything of that nature.
Migos celebrated with the champs as The Street Profits showed the champs respect. I guess that scene going into the EPK for a future promotional push.
Happy and Madcap attacked Drew while he was being interviewed backstage. They put a chair on his head and Corbin smashed a piece of the metal staging onto it with the idea that they injured his neck or throat. The officials lost their mind as if Drew was badly hurt.
They aired a Bianca Belair video package.
Backstage, Brock Lesnar "spoiled" the show by saying he would win the WWE title.
Edge vs. Miz is next. Edge did the old Brood entrance, which was cool to see.
It's all Edge early on but surprisingly its not Edge trying to beat the living hell out of Miz but instead trying to wrestle him. Miz escaped the crossface several times. Maryse distracted Edge to set up Miz working over the WWE Hall of Famer. The crowd was all over Miz and he drilled Edge with Yes Kicks. They are going for a long back and forth wrestling match as opposed to a big grudge match brawl.
Miz nailed a Skull Crushing Finale after Maryse interfered but Edge kicked up. Beth Phoenix came out and stood there, then waited for her music to hit, which was silly. She chased Maryse around the ring. We had reported a few weeks ago there was talk of her getting involved. Phoenix distracted Miz long enough for Edge to spear Miz for the pin.
Mixed tag team bout at the Royal Rumble?
I think the wrong person went over here. Edge and Beth just out-classed Miz and got their revenge, so where's the drama for this to continue, especially after the Brood/Blood Bath on Raw this past week? This felt like the end of a program, not the start, but without all the heat and momentum for something designed to blow off the story. The match was OK, but not the type of strong bout one might have hoped for after some good mic work to set up tonight.
Nothing on the show has lived up to the level of the New Day vs. Usos bout thus far, not in action, not in drama and not in sustained crowd interest. A lot of the show has been the crowd reacting to the entrances and sitting through the rest. Let's hope the remainder of the show turns it up a notch.
Backstage, Bobby Lashley was asked about Brock Lesnar being added to the main event. MVP said Lashley is the only one in the match not trembling with fear.
