JOSH ALEXANDER VS. RUBY SOHO & MORE: COMPLETE 12/30 AAW UNSTOPPABLE 2021 COVERAGE FROM CHICAGO, IL

By Mike Johnson on 2021-12-30 20:55:00

AAW Heritage Champion Hakim Zane (aka Rohit Raju) cut a damn good promo on Ace Austin and Myron Reed, saying no one ever sees anything in him, so he has to claw and scratch in the ring to prove he is better, but doesn't get any glory or love for it.  His glory is the title belt on his shoulder and now he'll walk in and out with it.

Fred Yehi vs. Schaff

The story is that Schaff is a BEAST who's beating down Yehi and absorbing his offense early.  Yehi battled back but struggled to lift the larger Schaff.  He instead took him down to the mat and locked in a chinlock, trying to wear the bigger man down.   Yehi kicked away at Schaff in the corner over and over, following up with knee strikes.  He nailed a series of shoulderblocks in the corner.  Yehi grapevined his head with his legs, continuing to try and wear down the bigger man.

Schaff fired back but was hit with a big German suplex.  He popped up and slapped down Yehi with a hard strike.  Yehi went to the floor and grabbed at Schaff's leg but was stomped away.  They battled on the floor.  Yehi went for a piledriver but was backdropped over and landed hard on the floor.  Back in the ring, Schaff hit a right hand that scared the hell out of me.  Yehi crumbled into the corner.  Yehi avoided a move in the corner and nailed a series of kicks, using the ropes for leverage for the final strike.  The crowd applauded to rally Yehi.

They battled back and forth.  Yehi kicked his knee out and used plyers to attack the ear, then the mouth of Schaff.  The referee tried to stop him but was thrown to the floor.  Schaff came back with a spinebuster and grabbed the plyers.  A referee tried to stop him but was tossed.  They began brawling in the ring as the locker room hit the ring to pull them apart.  Obviously a double DQ.  The pull apart went on for some time and was pretty entertaining.

Ruby Soho said five years ago today, she had her last independent wrestling match, right here in AAW.  She's on top of the world to be back.  This is where she flourished.  She knew when she came back she was going to particular as to who she faced and she wanted Josh Alexander.  They were friends and he helped her a lot but she knows he's the best wrestler in the building and that's why she wanted to face him.  She's got a hurt arm and isn't going to be 100% but she's going to give it her all.  There's a reason she helped build this company.  There's a reason she's back on the exact day she left.  This place is special.  It's her home and she refuses to leave without knowing she beat the best the company has to offer.

AAW Heritage Champion Hakim Zane vs. Ace Austin vs. Myron Reed

Austin and Reed shook hands before the bout and worked over Zane.  They tossed him to the floor.  Austin went for a dive but Reed tripped him up, so their alliance is already over.  They started grappling.  Reed nailed a guillotine legdrop through the ropes onto the apron.  Zane and Reed battled on the floor.  Austin escaped a Zane attack and punted him in the face.  He nailed a superkick off the apron.  Austin tossed Zane into the ring.  He worked over Zane.  Reed returned to the ring.  Everyone battled.  Lots of unique spots as they keep cutting off the other's momentum.

Zane made a comeback, hitting a roundhouse kick that took out Reed, then slammed Austin atop of him.  He worked over Austin with chops and snapped him over with a neckbreaker for a two count.  He turned his attention to Reed, using his boot to neutralize the challenger.    Everyone battled.  Austin cut off Zane on the top with a series of rights.  Zane shoved him off the ropes, sending him crashing to the ring below.  Myron attacked Zanr on the top and attempted a superplex.  Austin tried to assist but was shoved off.  Austin elevated Reed onto his shoulders.  Zane went for a clothesline but missed when Reed used a victory roll for a two count.

Reed hammered Austin with a series of forearms.  Zane booted Austin out of the ring to the floor, then sent Reed to the floor atop of him.  Zane set up and nailed a tope suicida to the floor.  Zane nailed a double stomp off the top for a two count.  Reed attacked and nailed Zane with a series of rights.    Reed nailed a stunner and came off the top with a stunner for a CLOSE two count.   Reed nailed a big dive but was attacked by Karam, Zane's muscle, and powerbombed into the ring post.  Zane drilled him and pinned Reed, eliminating him.

It was down to Zane and Austin, who Zane won the title from in September.  Austin hit a springboard kick on Zane and slid through the ropes to attack Karam, who evaded it and smashed him into the apron.  Gia Miller (from Impact, who is with Austin in real life) hit the ring and lowblowed Karam.    She slapped him.  Austin kicked Karam out of the ring and nailed a jumping knee strike on Zane.  Zane came back with a knee strike but Austin caught him and rolled up Zane for the pin.

Your winner and new AAW Heritage Champion, Ace Austin!

After the match, Reed slapped Austin and told him that he wanted the belt.

We are back after intermission.  The promotion has a lot of new fans here tonight in part due to running on Thursday and in part due to Ruby making her first independent appearance in Chicago in years.

Davey Vega with John E. Bravo and Hartenbower  vs. Alex Zayne

Bravo did some great old school manager mic work before the bell.

They locked up and Vega backed Zayne in the corner before breaking free.  They went back and forth grappling. Zayne shoulderblocked Vega down.  Zayne had a likable energy to him as he hit some unique aerial offense early on.  Vega cut him off and nailed him on the apron outside.  Zayne was worked over on the floor and brought back to the ring, where Vega controlled him and scored several near falls.

Zane finally began making a comeback, slapping the taste out of Vega's mouth.  He followed up with a big clothesline.  Zane nailed a somersault legdrop to the back of the head.  He placed Vega on the top and attempted a rana but was shoved off.  Vega came off the ropes and went for a brainbuster but Zayne used a rollup for a two count.  They peppered each other with forearms and strikes.

Zayne scored several two counts.  He went to the top for a move but Vega rolled across the ring to be out of the realm of offense.  They battled.  Zayne naile da Dragonrana for a close two count.   They battled back and forth until Vega nailed a brainbuster across the knee for the pin.

Your winner, Davey Vega!

Koda Jacobs vs. Russ Jones with Chuck Smooth

Jacobs came out in a suit and shirt (no pants) holding a sign as if he was running for political office.  He's a Ken Anderson trainee.   He cut a promo and said he was campaigning for a brighter future for wrestling.  Echoes of the stuff Drew Gulak did in CZW years ago.  He has a good gift for gab.

Russ is a big, muscular monster.  If I saw him coming at me, I'd run...until he caught me.  Then, I'd die out of fright.

Jacobs spent a long time trying to take off his clothes.  George South  101.  Jones speared the living sh** out off him.  Jones kicked him in the back of the head.  Jacobs was locked in a Bully choke and wisely tapped out in about 66 seconds.

Your winner, Russ Jones!

Everyone played their part here perfectly to get this over.
