SMACKDOWN WOMEN'S TITLE CLOSES THE SHOW: LIVE WRESTLEMANIA THOUGHTS FROM TAMPA

By Mike Johnson on 2021-04-10 20:00:00

The main event tonight, DESERVINGLY, is Bianca Belair vs. Sasha Banks.    The hype video for this was WORLDS better than the creative leading into tonight in my opinion.  Belair is one of the best athletes this company has ever hired and even I am amazed but impressed at how quickly she's risen in the company.    Some nice entrances.  Back and forth chanting for the competitors early live here in Tampa.

Belair was sent to the floor.  Banks nailed a great dive but Sasha rebounded and press her abovehead, carried her up to the apron and slammed her into the ring.  Banks showed some awesome fire in kicking and beating Belair down, scoring several two counts as she controlled her.  There are scattered EST chants in the stadium.  Banks cinched in a rear chinlock and turned that into a sitting surfboard.

The story has been the proud and boastful champion trying to keep Belair's sheer strength at bay.  Banks grabbed Belair by the long braid on the outside when they were on opposite sides of the ringpost but Belair yanked her into it.  Belair her for a long delayed suplex that was great.  So far, so good on this one.  The fans began clapping to rally the performers.  It was a nice sound I didn't realize I missed.  Belair went for a 450 off the top but Banks pulled her knees up.    She charged with a knee strike but was caught in a pair of powerbombs for a near fall.  She went for a third but Banks turned it into a DDT.

Banks brutally worked her over and locked on the Bank Statement.  Belair fought to the ropes but Sasha kicked off to bring her back.  Belair fought back the ropes.  The look of disgust on Banks' face was just incredible.    Belair muscled her back but was tied to the tree of woe.  Banks went for a double stomp but missed it.  She then missed a dropkick into the corner.  Belair nailed the 450 but Banks got up at the last second.

Bianca and Sasha had a tug of war over the braid.  Bianca whipped her with it and nailed her finisher for the pin.  NEW CHAMPION.  A good match.  Belair looked like she was going to cry and had a legitimately happy and emotional response to winning the belt.  They went off the air with Bianca in the ring.
