On the pre-show match, Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler won the Women’s Tag Team Titles. I can’t say I loved it because Nia scares me at times, but Asuka has been booked as a coward against Alexa Bliss and Charlotte is always in the Title picture their team was going to be short-lived anyway. I was actually hoping Shayna would win and get to show the masses what she can do on the main roster. It could still happen but the chances seem less now. So now we move forward with Charlotte fighting with Lacey over the love of Ric Flair. I can’t say I am overly excited about that.
We are opening up with a Raw match because Tom Phillips is greeting us. It’s Goldberg vs. Drew McIntyre for the WWE Title. Wow, Goldberg gets the Lesnar put me on first treatment. I hope like hell Goldberg doesn’t win here.
Goldberg steamed out first, doing his old entrance deal. Then they aired footage of the angle that set this up. Yep, no one learned that it was Randy Orton that night was disrespecting the legends, not Drew. That’s Raw booking for ya.
Goldberg got to wait in the ring through all of the recapping. That is longer than his matches usually go. He’s in good shape for a guy his age. I will give him that. He is also chewing gum. Not sure why.
Drew opened up with a headbutt and spear after Bill said something to him. They went to the floor and Drew got tossed into the steps. He took a spear through the barricade. The match hasn’t officially started yet. Drew is writhing on the floor. He is selling that he is pretty hurt. Of course Bill isn’t. This is a bit scary already. The ref is scared that Drew can’t go. He said ring the bell. Drew hit a knee to the head and a Claymore, two count only. They just said Lesnar is the only other man to kick out of the Claymore. I guess you need to be in AARP to be able to do it. Goldberg hit two spears, two count only. God, they are selling that Drew is lucky to be in it. Against his father. JEEEEEZ. Goldberg hit a loose Jackhammer. Drew kicked out at 2.5. Goldberg missed a spear into the corner. Drew hit the Claymore. 1-2-3. Thank God. If Drew lost I would have had internet issues and they would have stayed in effect until this show ended. I am kidding. I think. Anyway, Drew won and retained the Title. Thank God.
Drew waited in the ring for Goldberg to get up. Bill walked over to him. He said you passed, you passed you test. He shook his hand and they hugged. Bill whispered something into Drew’s ear. I can’t say for sure that it was, “Thank God the old man didn’t put the Title on me again” but if it wasn’t, it should have been.
Bill got to the ramp and went down on one knee. If he was out of gas, at his age, I get it. He worked hard for the few minutes that the match went on.
Sasha Banks defends the Smackdown Women’s Title next. Mella out first. Kayla interviewed Sasha. She isn’t worried about Reggie.
Sasha was on the offensive early until a distraction from Reggie led to her eating a kick, Mella in charge.
Sasha managed to hit a Meteora but she sold her left knee when she hit the mat. Now it’s back and forth. Mella threw Sasha out of the ring but Reggie caught her. Sasha turned it into a rana on the floor. The ref tossed Reggie and Mella came flying out of the ring with a tope to the floor. She wiped out Sasha but also hit her face hard on the floor. She got up though. She is tough.
Back in the ring Sasha went for the frog splash but Mella got the knees up and locked on Code of Silence but Sasha got out. Mella’s face looks fine. Man the way she landed she is lucky. Sasha came off the top and ate two kicks but kicked out at two. Sasha then managed twist and lock on the Bank Statement to retain the Title. Really good match. Carmella has gotten really, really good in the right. She held up her end and then some.
Xavier Woods and Big E were talking in the back when Sami Zayn came up and did a promo. Kofi snuck up from behind and scared him. Kofi is in gear to support his guys but will not be competing. Bad Bunny is doing his song Booker T. Booker is with him, dressed as GI Bro (at least that is what it looks like). Bunny wears bulletproof vest (I guess so if someone shoots him to get him to stop singing he can keep going) so maybe that is why Booker is dressed that way. Beats me, I am old. Bunny handed the mic to Booker after he was done whatever it was he just did Booker did the SUCKA bit. It was definitely GI Bro. Cole and Graves said so.
The Women's Royal Rumble match is up next. Bayley is out first. She said that she has coal in her head and if she wins she is challenging her nemesis Michael Cole. That is hilarious. I want to see Cole in the singlet again. Maybe he can get Tazz to come back and be his manager.
Cole is not calling this match, Phillips, Saxton and Jerry Lawler are. Looks like Smackdown gets the men's match. Number two is Naomi.
