MLW got quite a bit of attention this afternoon with the following tweet about Rey Fenix and Pentagon Jr.:
It’s been an incredible 2018 for the #LuchaBros!
— Major League Wrestling (@MLW) September 6, 2018
And a monumental moment is on the horizon for @ReyFenixMx and @PENTAELZEROM as we hear what 2019 holds for them.
MLW fans may be shocked to see what’s nxt! pic.twitter.com/iqJRvJWPMu
We have heard the brothers have been very elusive on taking dates next year and we have also heard there is heavy WWE interest in them.
I would estimate the crowd to be in the 750-850 range.
Before the show started, they asked the fans to not use middle fingers or curses so they could use the footage on BeIN Sports.
Ricky Martinez (with Salina de la Renta) vs. Jake St. Patrick
St. Patrick charged him at the bell but was drilled with a strike. Martinez drove his head into the mat a series of times and scored a two count. Martinez brought him into the corner and drilled him hard with a series of chops.
Martinez fought back but was turned inside out with a big clothesline. Martinez continued the assault and scored the pin.
Your winner, Ricky Martinez!
Solid squash. This was about showcasing Martinez and that’s what they did. St. Patrick did a nice job of bumping to help that.
St. Patrick was walked out by the ring crew after the bout.
The ring announcer noted it was a homecoming for some of MLW’s biggest stars, including Barrington Hughes. He then introduced Konnan, who made his way to the ring, accompanied by MLW Tag Team Champions Pentagon Jr. and Rey Fenix.
Konnan asked Ft. Lauderdale what was up and said MLW was getting lit. He said he was home in South Florida. The crowd chanted “Welcome home.” Konnan said he wanted to talk about Salina de la Renta. The crowd booed. Konnan said he doesn’t like her methods and said that he read her contracts and they were one-sided and that’s why wrestling promoters getting a bad name. He said Fenix and Pentagon were with him now and everything is now on the up and up. He said that he’s going to stay a step ahead of her. Usual good promo from Konnan. The crowd was super into him. It's amazing how over he still is given how long it's been since WCW went under. Some of that is nostalgia for sure but you get the impression a lot of its respect.
Out came Salina de la Renta and Ricky Martinez. She said she would confirm the rumors that they no longer working for her. She said she granted them early releases, because that’s the type of promoter she is. She said if they want to go, go. Salina said she was a merciful woman and handed the Champions contracts. She said it’s a contract she negotiated with “Hunter” and it would give them a rebranding, English language classes and more. The crowd booed all this but she told Pentagon and Fenix that all they have to do is sign. If they do, they will save themselves from being outclasses by Low Ki and L.A Park, they get to walk out on MLW. The crowd chanted, “Rip it up.” They teased signing and then loudly rejected it.
Konnan said that if anyone needed English lessons, it was her. He said that if she sticks her nose in his business, she’s going to be “checked hard.” Good segment. Smart to have Salina and Konnan handle the lion's share of the promo work to get the angle over. Good stuff.
The Dirty Blondes & Parrow (with Col. Robert Parker) vs. Davey Boy Smith Jr. & Teddy Hart & Brian Pillman Jr.
Everyone battled. All sorts of frenetic action. Hart and Smith worked over Parrow in the ring. Hart hit a big springboard moonsault to the floor. Pillman nailed a flying bodypress off the top not the Blondes. Hart nailed an Asai Moonsault.
The Dirty Blondes cut off Teddy and worked him over but Pillman broke up a pinfall attempt. The Harts made a comeback and Smith scored the pin with a running powerslam.
Your winners, the Hart Foundation!
Hijo Del L.A. Park vs. Jimmy Yuta
They locked up and Yuta took him down to the mat and they went back and forth with some really nice action, reversing holds and near falls.
Park took Yuta down with a clothesline and worked him over until Yuta leapt over him and locked him in a bow and arrow variation. Park slipped out and scored a two count. Yuta nailed a back senton splash for a two count.
Yuta drilled Park with a chop, but Park fired back with several, taking Yuta down. They battled to the floor then back into the ring. They drilled each other with stiff chops. Yuta nailed a a nice superkick and then a missile dropkick. He scored several two counts.
Park nailed a face-first codebreaker for a two count. Park missed a moonsault. Yuta nailed a Falcon Arrow and scored the surprise pin.
Your winner, Jimmy Yuta!
Fun match with a lot of really good, faced paced action.
Myron Reed vs. Jason Cade.
Reed was attacked by Cade before the bell but came back with a sunset flip from the outside for a two count. Cade worked over Reed on the floor. He drilled Reed with kicks to the back and neck.
Reed made a comeback with a series of clotheslines and an enziguiri. Reed nailed a springboard clothesline for a two count. Cade worked over Reed, who came back with a big bucklebomb. Reed came back with a series of hot moves. He nailed a leaping Ace Cutter over the top to Cade, who was on the apron outside. Cade got the better of him and nailed a backslide bomb for the pin.
Your winner, Jason Cade!
This was another really good athletic bout. Cade plays a good heel. Reed has a ton of upside. Way too much going on here to recap.
Jason Cade was going to cut a promo when Jimmy Yuta hit ringside and nailed him with a dropkick off the top rope.
