AJ STYLES VS. JINDER MAHAL IN A CAGE, NATALYA VS. FLAIR AND MORE: COMPLETE WWE STARRCADE COVERAGE

The Hardy Boyz come to the ring and thank the wrestling fans from North Carolina for letting them do this for the last 25 years.   

Matt came out with King Maxel on the stage before heading to the ring along:

 

Jeff says he couldn’t do it without Rock n Roll, which leads to a video package on the 2017 WWE Hall of Fame tag team.

Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson, the Rock n Roll Express are introduced and make their way to the ring.   Ricky Morton takes the mic and thanks the fans for all the battles at Starrcades in the past with the Horsemen and Midnight Express.

Fatal Four Way match for the Smackdown tag team titles: The New Day versus Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn versus Shelton Benjamin & Chad Gable versus The Usos (c).

Yes, we got a dance off with The New Day, The Hardys and the Rock n Roll Express!

Lots of great action, with Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn getting pummeled by all teams at one point. After a skirmish that lead to superkicks on everyone by The Usos, Gable is left alone in the ring to take a top rope splash from one of The Usos.

We are now at intermission and the steel cage is going up:

They played a Ric Flair tribute video during intermission:

The Nature Boy comes out to a huge ovation. He mentioned that he’s cried already today and he may do it again. He thanks Dusty Rhodes for creating Starrcade and calling the first one ‘A Flair for the Gold’.   Flair said three months ago, he thought he was going to die and mentioned Michael Hayes visiting him.  Tonight, he is proud to be here.

The proud father then introduces his daughter, the current WWE Smackdown Women’s Champion, Charlotte Flair.

The Women’s Smackdown title is on the line in a steel cage as Charlotte Flair (c) defends against Natalya!

Lots of mat work early as neither the champion nor the challenger wanted any part of the cage. Charlotte’s first attempt at an air attack ended up having her be in the same position Ric Flair has been in an infinite amount of times in his career, as Natalya slammed the champ off the top rope to the mat.   Natalya finally brings the cage into play and Charlotte was the victim.  She locks on a Sharpshooter.

Charlotte fights her way back and finally gets her finisher on Natalya, forcing her to tap. Your winner by submission via the Figure Eight, and still Smackdown Women’s Champion, Charlotte Flair!

WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair greeted his daughter on stage as she returned to the locker room:

Next up a battle for the WWE Championship inside a steel cage as AJ Styles defends his title versus Jinder Mahal, accompanied by The Singh Brothers.

Mahal brings the cage into play play early and calls from the door to be opened. Styles with punches to stop Mahal’s progress. Styles then attempts a dive into Mahal but ends up eating the cage instead. Once again Mahal uses the cage as a weapon and launches Styles head first into it. The Champion finally battles back and launches the challenger into the fence. Styles attempts to escape over the top and gets caught by Mahal.

Styles then attempts a dive into Mahal but ends up eating the cage instead. Once again Mahal uses the cage as a weapon and launches Styles head first into it. The Champion finally battles back and launches the Challenger into the fence. Styles attempts to escape over the top and gets caught by Mahal.

Styles takes back control and launches Mahal into the cage twice. Styles calls for the door to be opened. One Singh brother closes it and the other distracts the referee in the ring. Mahal attacks, but Styles reverses and gets Mahal in the Calf Crusher. The Singh Brothers come into the cage and attempt to drag Mahal out. Styles stops their progress and locks back on the Calf Crusher as the Singh Brothers make their way back into the ring to break it up.

The Singh Brothers go to work on Styles while Mahal recuperates. AJ turns things around and hits the Styles Clash on one of the Brothers. Mahal with a big boot to Styles.  AJ counters with a Pele kick. Both men are down. Styles attempts to climb out, but is caught by one of the Singh’s. Mahal makes his way towards the door. Styles dispatches of the Singh Brother and then kicks the door closed onto Mahal. Styles makes his way to the floor.
