PWG ALL STAR WEEKEND 11 DVD REVIEW

By Matthew Macklin on 2016-03-18 15:33:00

PWG All Star Weekend 11 Night 2 took place on December 12th in Reseda, California.

Chuck Taylor defeated Kikutaro twice.

This was complete comedy rubbish.  Kikutaro looks like he hasn't had a day of wrestling training in his life. Next.

After the match Kikutaro was talking about how he would move to the United States until Mount Rushmore 2.0 attacked him, kicked him out of the ring and told Reseda to suck it.

Timothy Thatcher defeated Marty Scurll

This was an excellent technical wrestling match.  This started with Scurll trying to embarrass Thatcher with World of Sport style holds, while going back and forth with the crowd.  Thatcher eventually got sick of messing around and started hitting Scurll with boots and uppercuts.  Thatcher hit a series of gut wrench suplexes.  Scurll somehow managed to powerbomb Thatcher. Thatcher came off as a beast here that just couldn't be held down.  Thatcher couldn't lock on the Fujiwara armbar, as Scurll was always able to escape. Likewise, Scurll couldn't get the Chickenwing as Thatcher always fought out.  Scurll instead tried Cattle Mutilation, but Thatcher fought out of that too.  Scurll then started kicking and slapping Thatcher, but it just pissed him off, leading to Thatcher knocking Scurll out with a headbutt and pinning him.  A great match that told a very good simple story.

The Unbreakable F'N Machines (Michael Elgin & Brian Cage) defeated Tommaso Ciampa & Johnny Gargano

This was one hell of a tag team match.  These two teams clicked really well together.  Cage & Elgin controlled the start of this, with them doing delayed vertical suplexes on both guys, as they passed their opponent from one to the other as they tagged in and out.  Ciampa eventually got sick of it and kicked out the legs of Cage as he did the move.  Ciampa & Gargano hit a nice combo of knees and dropkicks on Cage in the corner.  Cage & Elgin unloaded with great double team power moves and at one point sandwiched Gargano with lariats. Cage had Ciampa on his shoulders and caught Gargano, then slammed both guys at once, which was incredible.  Both teams looked like teams that had been working together for years.  There was an amazing sequence of strikes with everyone seemingly hitting everyone else.  This led to Cage & Elgin hitting deadlift Superplexes at the same time before Elgin pinned Ciampa with an Elgin Bomb.

Ricochet defeated Mark Andrews

This was a spectacular aerial display.  This one built nicely, starting out slow with the bigger moves coming out as the match went on.  Andrews precision is incredible.  Both these guys look absolutely flawless when they start flying around and make it look effortless.  Andrews hit and awesome hurricanrana over the top rope.  Ricochet hit a Northern Lights and followed through to go for the deadlift suplex as he normally does.  Andrews countered it into a stunner, but Ricochet held on and turned it into a Regal-plex.  Ricochet missed a Phoenix Splash and Andrews hit a spectacular West Coast Pop.  He missed a Shooting Star Press and was caught with a couple of roundhouse kicks followed by a Benydriller as Ricochet got the win.  This was great.

Matt Sydal defeated Trevor Lee

This was another really good solid match.  Lee continued his trend of attacking people before the bell, but Sydal was ready for him.  Lee played the heel again.  He has transitioned from the underdog to a guy that can believably control a match.  His development over the last year or two has been incredible. Lee has an amazing German suplex, which he hit here.  He also did the flipping crossbody, which looked incredible as his head barely cleared the mat.  Sydal hit some nice kicks and got a great near fall from a hurricanrana into a pin.  They exchanged strikes, with Lee hitting a roundhouse kick. Sydal hit the ropes and hit the reverse step up rana.  Lee got the knees up on an attempted Shooting Star Press, and caught Sydal in a small package to steal the win.

Kenny Omega defeated Will Ospreay

This is one of my favourite ever PWG matches.  This was just mind blowing.  There were some sequences in this that I couldn't possibly begin to describe.  Ospreay is something really special. Omega was the perfect opponent for him.  Ospreay hit a big corkscrew dive.  Omega hit a big tope con hilo.  Some of the counters and things they did were like something a kid would do with their action figures, or something you'd see on a video game.  Ospreay leaped onto the top rope and in one movement sprung onto Omega, who was on the top rope and hit a hurricanrana.  He followed it up with a spinning kick to Omega.  Ospreay missed both a Phoenix splash and a red arrow.  Omega hit his incredible snap dragon suplex and some knee strikes.  The near falls at the end of this were awesome with it really looking like Ospreay would steal the upset. Omega won after another knee strike and the One Winged Angel.  This is a must-see match.

Guerrilla Warfare Match: Chris Hero, Mike Bailey, Joey Ryan & Candice LeRae defeated Mount Rushmore 2.0 (The Young Bucks, Adam Cole & Roderick Strong)

This is one of the most spectacular, craziest, insane brawls that I have ever seen from any pro wrestling company, which gave us some of the coolest moments ever in PWG. This was completely mental and worth the price of this DVD alone. It started with MR attacking the ring announcer and from there it didn't let up for a single second. MR took everyone out.  They put tacks down Joey Ryan's trunks and superkicked him.  He was taken to the back and the referee that helped him was attacked too.  Hero was taken out with a quadruple strike and we had a double Indytaker on the floor taking out Bailey & Candice.  MR then went after Excalibur, who left the commentary position and caught them with a Senton off the stage.  He was eventually taken out.  The lights then went out.  When they came back on Kyle O'Reilly was in the ring for one of the loudest pops I have ever heard as he returned to PWG.  Kyle killed everyone in sight.  From there things got even crazier and I can't even possibly recap everything that happened.  Candice was suplexed onto a stack of chairs.  Bailey was hit with a Swanton onto a ladder.  O'Reilly had Strong in a choke on the apron, but Strong took O'Reilly through a table at ringside causing it to explode.  Kikutaro showed up and brought Hero (who was bleeding) an elbow pad covered in thumb tacks. MR were outnumbered when Rick Knox got involved and helped Joey Ryan hit a Doomsday Device.  Excalibur recovered and hit a Jay Driller before Hero finished Nick with the loaded elbow pad.

This isn't even half the craziness that happened, but it was insane and the lack of commentary made it feel like an all out riot.  After the match team PWG spoke and thanked everyone, and said that in 2016 they would end MR.  This was all just an amazing moment to close out 2015 in PWG with a huge feeling of victory over the company's top heel group.  Everyone needs to see this match.

This show was awesome.  The last two matches are two of the best matches you'll ever see from PWG.
