JEFF HARDY MEDIA CALL RECAP: HIS HEALTH, LEGAL ISSUES, RETURN STORYLINE, MATT HARDY'S FUTURE, TNA'S NEWEST MAIN EVENTERS AND MUCH, MUCH MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2011-11-08 14:49:00

Someone asked Hardy why he joined Immortal.  Really?

I had the chance to ask Hardy a second round of questions.  I asked Hardy about the ascension of James Storm and Robert Roode into the company's main event level and whether there were others he'd like to see at that level.  Hardy said that he loves seeing new people on that level vying for the title and that others, like AJ Styles are still awesome to watch as well.  He said it's refreshing to see something new in the World title picture.  I asked Hardy if there was anyone else he'd like to see move into a larger position.  Hardy said he mentioned Austin Aries earlier and said there are several other guys but he's been more worried about himself of late.  He thinks what they are doing with Beer Money he really enjoys.

In regard to the book, it's something he's looking at for down the line, not something that is immediately on the horizon.

I asked Hardy about his recent TNA DVD and his thoughts on the final product.  Hardy said that he saw the documentary portion the night before Bound for Glory and thought it was really well done, but hasn't had the chance to sit down and watch all the matches that were included yet.  Hardy said that he really liked the main feature and that the company did a good job on it and that it was entertaining.

I brought up Hardy's physically impactful style as a worker and whether it's harder for him to go into the ring as the Hardy that fans expect him to be as he's gotten older and had more personal issues, or if it's easier for him because he's gotten better as a worker.  I also asked him how much of that style he can continue to do while trying to maintain a healthier lifestyle.  Hardy said that he feels its a lot easier because he's at a point where at the live events, he can interact with the fans as opposed to killing himself in the ring.   He said that he doesn't have to do it all in the ring and still gets a positive response from the fans.  He told a story about overshooting the Swanton recently on Bully Ray and nailed his sciatic nerve.  He said that until then he had been feeling really well, but being able to spend time with the fans is the priority now, not killing himself in the ring.

I brought up the work ethic that he and his brother had when putting themselves on the map as performers and asked him whether doing such a thing is easier for the long term or harder, since there is an unspoken expectation for performers to continue to do the crazier stunts again and again.   Hardy said it is harder because when he hurt his back earlier in the week with Bully Ray, the fans are cheering, not realizing he banged up his back and still expected to see his trademark spots.  He said when that happens, you have to try and do what you can.  He said that his advice to those breaking in is being original which is hard now because so much has been done in pro wrestling.
